Hey TM Lewin crew, is it still true that you can't wear a striped tie with a striped shirt? My dad keeps telling me that it's in "poor taste." What do you think?

@PerfectStranger776 A classic Ralph look actually requires a wide stripe suit a rope stripe is best, this is the worn with a narrow bengal stripe shirt (normally) a white collar and then a wide club stripe tie. Maybe Google american esquire and 'wide narrow wide'.

@PerfectStranger776 This is the ethos to make this look work. ie wide stripe on suit, narrow stripe on shirt, wide stripe on tie ( the best type would be a plain base colour on the tie navy for example with a 0.5 mm off white stripe sitting next to a 0.5mm pale blue stripe) Hope this makes sense. The look works!

@poposisa My own rule of thumb is “plain with patterned and patterned with plain!” So if you have a stripy shirt you have a plain tie, not another stripe. Having said that I do wear spotty ties with stripes, but the tie is mostly a solid colour, with pin-prick spots of two or three colours.

I’ve bought T M Lewin suits, shirts and ties for 7 years now and sometimes I do question their combinations! Although off the peg, nothing even comes close, their product range is great.
