  • Thank you for what you do. Welcome home to all of our Vietnam vets.

  • @voiceforveterans You're very kind. Thanks for watching. :)

  • @voiceforveterans We will never forget.

  • you were right this was a wonderful video.

  • Betty's great, isn't she? She's so dedicated, and I've had the opportunity to meet some of her fellow volunteers. The honor was mine. I'm glad you saw this. :)

  • The Vietnam womens memorial is a false and misleading Image. There were no nurses out in the field with us Grunts tending to our wounds while waiting for a dustoff=Evac.Such a lie to the reality of the male combat medic and Infantrymen who served in Vietnam.

  • Military regulation would naturally preclude a 50:50 ratio or anything nearing that figure. That is very true. Thanks for posting your comment. It is important, and I don't dismiss it.

Most importantly, thank you for going. :)

  • great vid

  • Thanks! i'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • Betty, The videos you make are always so thought provoking. True, we sometimes take for granted the tireless efforts of those who are dedicated to serving others. Thanks for making this great video of the Wall to remind us of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom, and to those who keep the flame burning.

    Aloha,

    Thomas

  • Thomas, I didn't know your comment was sitting here. I would not ignore you and I do apologize. Email isn't perfect sometimes.

My ex was in Vietnam, and I have worked with so many who are Vietnam Vets. I went that day on behalf of a vet here, without realize that it was international Women's Day. I found out when I got there. :)

  • Nice 1 Betty ;-) ya know i like this one

  • I know you do, honey. ;-)

  • Hats off to you,Betty Henry. This is a great interview , spoken from your heart. I salute your dedication to this wonderful volunteer duty in honor of our men and women who served and sacrificed.

  • Betty is the best! I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to meet her, and I know she'll appreciate your kind words. :)

  • Betty !!

    I can't believe I didn't comment on this already.

I remember a few lines from "Blowin' in the Wind"

"How many times must the cannon balls fly, before they're forever banned..."

how many ears must one man have

Before he can hear people cry?

...how many deaths will it take till he knows

That too many people have died"

  • the answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind. :(

  • I wish I had a dime for every time I played that on my guitar.

  • I like that song.

  • Bless you AWESOME my friend keep smiling my friend hugs Dee

  • Hello, my dear. Thank you for being so kind! Betty made this video, and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to meet her. She has a lovely and giving heart. You're like that too, Dee. :)

  • I havent had the opportunity to visit the memorial yet. I always get emotional when I see or hear any thing about this tribute to the Women and Men who served. I was on active duty during Vietnam, but I was stationed in another part of the world. Thank you for this excellent video, Betty. I just featured it on my channel.

    Frank

  • Frank, thank you for seeing this and I'm certainly honored that you've featured it on your channel. I know you were active duty during the war, and I'm just glad your name isn't on that wall. :)

  • All I can say is Batty you have a heart of gold!!

  • Look who's talking. :)

  • Words fall short for me on this as you know...

  • Never have I meant this more in life, PappyStu:

    I hope it helped.

  • great video. It's so easy to immediately enviosion "men" when thinking about a war memorial. This is a great reminder that men and women serve equally in all endeavors, great and small.

  • Thanks! My focus changed three times in that day. I'd begun my trip with the intention of getting footage for another video (still a plan). When I was there, I asked Betty if she would grant me an interview. After that, I realized that I'd visited on International Woman's Day, and decided to concentrate a bit on the women. Since Betty had already addressed both the men and women, and thanked them all, I thought to end with a mention of honor for the women. :)

  • I had the pleasure and honor of spending an hour or so at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial back in 1990 I think it was. I look forward to visiting again. Nice vid Betty!

  • Thanks Peter! This was only my third visit, if you can believe that, since I'm from the D.C. area. The way I met Betty was because she offered to help me get up off of the ground. I'd gotten down to get specific footage of people in the reflection on the Wall, and was trying to get up when she came to help me. Then she helped me get the rubbing for my guy who's name is on my POW bracelet.

If you visit again, let me know and I'll meet you if you like.

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! :)

  • Tough I don't believe in war at all, and don't understand the senseless killing and violence, I applaud what these volunteers are doing to make things easier for survivors and the families of the fallen. Again, you made an excellent video that drew me in...

  • I was hoping to make a video that most people would be ok with, even though I knew it would be hard for some to watch. I wonder if it isn't hard for combat Vets to see too, because of the way I did the ending. I can't watch certain videos for other reasons, so this may be hard for them 1,000 times over.

Andy, I do thank you for watching on Betty's behalf. What she does is with so much love from the heart. Thank you. :)

  • That wall is much too long... much too long! So many lives lost for a war that so many chose to forget... but not anymore, it seems! What a good job those volunteers are doing, a great support.. and I hope that when one day they hear their 'last post', and march their final march, new volunteers will follow..

  • I'm sure they will, Rob. Betty has lived with Last Post concerns all of her life, with her family and certainly her many friends in the military, so she understands as well as anyone what you mean. I do hope that they come along too, when that time comes. I wish I lived closer to them so I could visit more often. I know how to buy donuts and stuff for volunteers who graciously give of themselves. I'm just not close enough to do it.

  • My Dad's uncle served in Nam, luckily he got away with his life, and he was a pretty accomplished guy. He died in 2003 from cancer. But, he was the kind of guy who, you couldn't help but love him when you saw him. He would have liked this video honoring the people who died serving our country.

  • Thanks for telling me about your Dad's uncle. I'm glad for you that you had the chance to know him. What a beast though, cancer. I'm sorry that was your uncle's fate.

It was Betty's intention to thank veterans for their service to this country, and she meant that for your Uncle too. So do I. Maybe he has seen it, Alyssa. We don't know these things. :)

  • Thanks Betty, both of you, for doing what you do. This was a very fitting tribute to all who served, thank you again BettyS.

  • Thanks from both of us, Daryl. Betty does it all though. Not too many are qualified to do these things she does for people at the Wall. I watched her with the people. She's absolutely phenomenal.

There should be a counseling resource for the volunteers. She mentioned that they had no help of that kind, and that stuck in my mind. I think they need that.

  • You are right Betty, we should have additional resources to help the volunteers to help the vets. These guys are our heroes and deserve to be treated as such. The one thing I have contention with is that your part in this. Had you not turned your camera on, I would have never known about Betty and the other volunteers. Thanks again to BOTH of you!

  • I heart you. :)

  • Hi Betty. Wonderful interview! I was a Marine Corps wife for 22 years and have nothing but the utmost respect for all the men and women that serve and have served in the armed forces and as civilians; it is hard to put into words how tough life sometimes is for them and their families. I was lucky since I had the chance as a young bride to learn a lot about military life in general from many Nam Vets and their spouses before they retired; great people. Thanks for making this video :) Adriana

  • Adriana! Semper fi then! Life is very tough for the families, yes. My Mom was the base librarian at an Air Force installation in the D.C. area, and I grew up volunteering there. I'm sure I was as much a nuisance as anything to everybody who worked for her, but that was my experience as a child. I worked on that base in my adult life too. My Mom loved the military so much though, that when she died I thought I would have to split her inheritance with about nine million people. :D

  • many members of my american family are vets, some are still in active service ! I have the utmost respect for them. It doesn't matter if one is pro-military or not. I know that they love their country and are ready to give their life for it (and therefore for us). That in itself is something that we must never forget.

  • I have a life long association with the military (as a civilian), and I'm pro peace. I suppose I would add the caveat that I don't believe in peace at any price, but some would also say that we cannot stop war by preparing for it. I am respectful of all views. People know that I really care about them. You know that, right? At the end of the day, though, the combat veterans I knew just wanted peace.

I've heard that war is Hell.

  • war is hell for sure... when we use to read the notes from my cousin in Nam... I use to have nightmares... no the army would not be my thing but as I mentioned I cannot help but feel the utmost respect for those who go into the service with "devotion". and of course I know how you care for people ! ;-)

  • Thank you.♥

  • Betty will see this, and thank you for saying "thanks." She's a dedicated soul, and I'm so happy to be able to tell people about her. :)

    Thanks, Karolyn.

  • Great information...what an awesome tribute!

  • Hey ZT! Thanks! This is therapy for me, actually. I'm going on Albert Schweitzer's claim that happiness is achieved through the discovery of some useful service. And look who I met ... a person lovingly dedicated to service. :)

  • Wow that gave me cold chills...... Nice work... my father was a Nam vet... He passed last year in November.

  • I didn't know he was a Vietnam Vet, and I'm glad he came home or I wouldn't know you. I'm sorry you lost your Dad, Kev I'm sorry.

It's OK, though. We love you and we'll take care of you now. :)

  • as you always have. :)

  • in my fathers praise.... His older brother went to the nam war... my father had to get a signed conscent from his parents to go... cause he was only 17... he volunteered for the second term

  • More detail I didn't know before. I'm glad you shared this here because Betty will read it, and I want her to know about your Dad, too. You can be very proud of him for his service, and I'm proud to know his son.

If Lee had had an army like him, the South might have prevailed. On the other hand, I'd have to have a passport just to go to Maryland. :P

  • May they rest in peace! Peace is such a wonderful treasure ... but wars are always around somewhere and no matter who's the hostile it always means loss for families - no matter if friendly soldiers, enemy soldiers or civilians. I would wish the planet could be united once to just one nation. But we can see what's happening to nations like as Yugoslawia - now Serbia, Montenegro, Kroatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina. When we're one then we want to get separated again. Human nature is weird.

  • Sven, sometimes I think it's impossible for people to stop fighting, and so many young people die on all sides. Eventually, each war stops, and the Grandchildren of opposing sides end up sitting at the same table in peace. Then ... another war.

I just want peace for all of us.

  • Totally agreed my Brother from another mother. Kev

  • Same here - both of you. :)

  • cool... i missed nam but a couple of years.. thank god... good vid

  • I'm glad you missed it, too. I know you exactly. You would have charged a machine gun nest or something like that, and your name would have been on that wall too.

When I was there Sunday, I was thinking that I was glad not to see it.
