  • Ronaldo quote: Nilis was the best partner in the front in my career...

  • Nilis is very similar to Casiraghi...instantly looked sheer class in the Premiership but their career in England ended just after it had started.

Brian Laudrup was another who could have had a fantastic Premiership experience but for instant problems

  • @Ali74

...except Casiraghi didn't look sheer class to be honest,

  • Vive la Belgique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We only had him down the Villa a few weeks and he was brilliant we gutted when he broke his leg. We liked him a lot down here!

  • As a belgian, i can say Nilis had a superb technique in free kicks or finishing in general, a nose for goals, and always a nice way to make them. But saying he's the best Belgian player ever is exaggerated knowing we had players like Van Himst, Braine, Jurion, Ceulemans, Verbiest, Gerets,..... But offcourse alot of those names was long time ago :)

  • Scifo , Grun,...

  • For me this was by far the best player ever seen, I can't remember him scoring stupid goals,it were all beauties...specialist in free-kicks,volley's and his vista was legendary, if he had more speed then he would have played for the super-top-clubs, in Holland he was more appreciated then in Belgium, and if there was a special game with a world-selection he was the only belgian invitated...really class-player, I miss him a lot....

  • Too bad the Villa fans didn't get the chance to see what he really was about

  • such superb technique, along with Preud'homme my favourite Belgian player ever. A few weeks after this goal, Nilis' career was ended forever by a goalkeeper's tackle.

  • it wasnt really a tackle, i remember him just kicking against the goalkeepers legs, it looked so bad though, it was like his shin wrapped around the goalkeepers leg :/ 0.0 looks disgusting

he was well over 30 wen it happened though, so at least he had a fairly long career

  • to bad

nilis is one of the worlds most onknow best freekick takers

  • Great goal. Could I ask as its a while ago now, did he get gang green or something in his leg? I faintly remember something like that happening to a player and i thought it was him.

  • The goallie charged out and broke his leg. It is an injury that would cost a player no more than 4 months these days, but unfortunately back then it was end of carreer.

  • @DestAIDS still costs a player 8 months at least!

it was a double fracture & not a good one either, not every fracture is the same...

  • he never got gangreen, he even played some exhibition games afterwards :)

  • realy his free kicks nobody not beckham c ronaldo ext luc nilis best player in holland form belgian player is this onbelievebel luke luc faster als is shadow belgian best player ever

  • king luc

  • the leg break is wrong

  • You should see his free kicks. Better than Beckham and Roberto Carlos in their good days...

    HERO

  • Still visits Villa Park from time to time. Great player - fantastic to watch.

  • Richard Wright u bar steward y did u take him

  • comin on dude it was bad luck what happen i'm sure richard still feel bad for what happen i'm just glad freddy was as bad as that when he done his leg the other week

  • i kno i was there lat week when billy boum got crocked and i was almost crying but then i realised i was surrounded by 30,000 people i fought i probably shudn't

  • perfect technique, one of the best belgian players ever, alongside preud'homme. this was his last goal before a goalkeeper's charge ended his career.

  • we only had him about 5 games thn tht goalie wen and ended his carrer wot a twt

  • he is manager of the frontplayers of psv

  • great shame about the injury could tell he was a class act

  • he had a better freekick then beckham

left en right as well, he was worldclass, check his vids when he was playing for psv and anderlecht

too bad for aston villa, they lost a great player, look @ the goal, it is a pure nilis tor

  • ma wel in belgiie eh

  • his son is on my school whaha XD

  • Damn Anderlecht, why don't you give him a contract as trainer of the strikers? One of the best Belgian strikers should work for the biggest Belgian club.

  • Omdat hij misschien al bij PSV werkt?

  • He was really excellent ! But ... wait ! His son is coming !

  • Some of the strikes i've seen him hit, i wish he never got injured just to see him do that kind of stuff in the premiership, even if it was with Villa

  • i was at that game too..

    what a goal!

this was before chelsea changed there name to chelski.

  • I was at that game. He made a world cup winning defence (LeBouef and Desailly) look like Sunday Leaguers. Such a shame about the injury...

  • do you wanna rephrase your comment

  • He really is a PSV legend already... When it comes to technical skills he was one of the best on that planet...

  • hyedward you really dont know anything about football at all do you?

  • I remember this game nilis made lebouf look like a pub player

  • Zyphea, spot on!

  • He coaches the strikers of PSV now, still a shame his career had to end like that! One of the best belgian strikers ever!

  • Great goal! It's so sad that his career was cut short by that horrific injury.

  • hyedward you tw*t what cheap old greatplayers have villa bought?

  • it was one of the world class players that never played on world class side

  • it was ipwswich away he broke his leg i think he cud have turned into a legend for aston villa. shame

  • I heard Luc Nilis was a gr8 playa but I Neva saw him play but anyway we got Harewood and Reo-Coker now

  • What a goal and what a player he was! My stomach still turns when i remember the pictures from his injury.

  • His freekick was better than Beckham's and he had a lot of skill!! If he was a little bit faster he would have have been one of the best ever!!! This guy was amazing! His son is now coming and it has been said by Grandpa Nilis( Who trained both!!) that he is better than Luc!!! Wait and see cause Luc is my favourite Belgian footballplayer ever!! Hard to top him!!!!

  • Great Goal - gutted about his injury!
