I was about halfway through a healthy 4oz serving of absinthe at I don't know....7:30 mark and was wondering...what are those 7 dwarfs up to now. hahahaha
I was out at the Billie Mine around the end of December, 2007. I was there to remove a piece of monitoring equipment that the electric company I work for had installed there in the guard shack. I had a chat with the onsite caretaker, poked around the buildings and took a bunch of pictures. The guy said that the main reason the Billie closed was financial. It was costing them $75 a ton to mine colemanite at Billie, but they found a place in Turkey that could mine for $25, incl shipping to US!
Most of those mines are near Tecopa (which is near the Ibex Mine). The Billie Mine is just outside of Death Valley. Not sure why it closed. Seems to have closed sometime in 2007 or so.
If the shaft was open, it would of been a nice little climb down the manway.

Are there still any workers or security nearby the billie mine

@Prestonpdawg Not that we could see. The nearby Ryan Mine, however, does have an onsite security guard/caretaker.

Is that near the back side of DV? SE? Like near the Ibex mine? The Billie mine looks very interesting. Wonder why it closed?
