Georgia never crossed the border into Russia, the action was against rebel forces within the Georgian borders. Russia was the aggressor. The Bear is looking to gobble up small states on its borders. Yes Georgia has been pretty much put to sleep militarily. The Ukraine has a bigger force and more resources at their disposal. I still think the theory has nerit, but only time will tell of course. Imagine if Russia really puts the squeeze on the Ukraine energy-wise? What then?

In that case the Eastern part of Ukraine would gladly join Russia since most of the population there consists of pro-Russian people that predominantly speak Russian and feverishly oppose to joining NATO, while the western portion would form a separate entity with the current pro-western government at the helm.
