  • what the name song?

  • better than memoirs of a geisha which was a shithouse movie that wasnt even filmed in japan at all. 70% of japan is mountainous i wished they filmed the last samurai there

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up for the epic music!!

  • i love this scene

  • "I will always win, because I will NEVER lose."

  • In one hand there is the different aproach to defeat by 2 cultures. For Ujio was good enough to disarm Algreen, for him it would be humiliating enough, but of course Algreen comes from a culture "were there is life there's hope". But there is also Algreen desire to die, so we don't really know what is Algreen up for, is he going at it like "Never give up" or is he going at Ujio like "give all you got, i don't care about shit anymore, i embrace my end fighting" And ...

  • @lusonicolusonico ...And defiance in face of defeat is samurai! Like in the end before battle where they all laugh defiantly while say the other side would not surrender. So Algree is really a samurai, his life had no value to him, he searched something meaningfull and not simply "be alive".

That's why he wanted to die in the shooting range when said to the soldier to shoot him, that's why he was drinking himself to death. He was a samurai spirit even before meeting the samurai.

  • You should not forget that he actually didn't want to beat him up. He actually wanted to leave after he disarmed him.

  • great movie!!

  • He showed that he wanted to learn their culture, but they were too uptight about it and were still considering Nathan as an enemy.

  • This scene and message is telling to us all about human spirit... I'm white man, but I adore Japan... old Japan... maybe some day I will find a spirit I'm looking for there or maybe I already found it inside myself, like many of you should do the same... what is life, what is death, if not a feeling we all feel while watching this.

    PEACE

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the music in this scene?

  • @orochi818 Search for The Last Samurai OST you will find it.

  • This is one of the best scenes in movie

  • this is definitley NOT the best scene

  • I say the best scene is when katsumoto goes to the council in tokyo wearing his daisho (two swords) and he refuses to give it up. and realizes the emperor is disgracing everything his ancestors fought and died for by doing nothing about it.

Algren not giving up was probably intriguing to the samurai of the village. they did a really good job with this movie. It was really a "Read between the lines" kind of thing.

  • who can forget this scene? Its crazy good

  • I realize the best scene is based on opinion but I will still say that I think the best scene is the on where katsumoto explains Bushido. "We are all dyeing to know.......life in every breath...in every cup of tea...every life,we take............That is Bushido."

  • Jasoncsh; I totally agree with your comments. This actor does it for me, he makes me believe he's really Samurai.

  • i agree i loved this scene alot

  • most Japanese male actors practice in TATE(stage combat) where they learn how to do a fight with katana. Sanada Hiroyuki may not be the best at it... but he sure killed in this movie, every scene with him in it is one of the best in movie history(at least in action movie category)

  • You can defeat the body but you can't defeat spirit.

  • @Illendyourfamily

Hehe, true thing, and very well said ! :D

  • One of the best movie scores ever too!!

  • Actually this movie is so full of "BEST SCENES" that it's really difiicult to tell which one is the best :). I guess that if any one of us elects a different "BEST SCENE", we all will be right :)

  • where is 2:58?

  • @ibouto ???

  • Boken hurt man... no way he could take that punishement. Seriously that big slam to his back would keep him down. regardless of his pride, or determination.

  • What I meant was that I think Ujio saw the Samauri spirit in Tom Crusies character, He didn't "give up" and fought until he could not. Were this a real fight ,Ujio saw and respected the "fight to the death" attitude displayed by this "foreiner" The respect showed later when Cruise came out in the red uniform of the man he killed. Ujio looked at, then nodded approvingly at him.

  • For anybody who cares, the title of the movie does NOT refer to Tom Cruise's character; it refers to Katsumoto and his warriors.

  • The lesson is here today kids is if you're not dead yet get your ass back up

  • @TheRobloxComedy Wrong. The lesson today is, if you get beat down and foolishly try to stand up too early you ll get beat down again.

  • SAKEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • This is how I walk around my village. My level of BADASS is my umbrella.

  • @IEatCray0ns what?

  • This movie is an american Fiction inspired by a True Story of a French Hero: Jules Brunet and the TRUE ending is far more interesting.

    /Wn1Ee4DnoU8

  • In this fight, Tom Cruise represents hollywood....Ujio represents asian cinema.....Asian cinema kicks hollywoods ass..

  • RESPECT TO THE UJIO SAN !

  • This is very good, but this is the best Scene watch?v=B9XyCwmh-5Q&feature=related

  • that was some sick ass moves from Uijo from 1:57-2:01

  • the heart of a true warrior

  • Tom cruise must have felt good NOT being the shortest guy around for once... or did he demand all the Japanese actors wear really thin shoes?

  • American Spirit, we're not dead untill we are dead. So youd better make damn sure.

  • @TheLongTimeObserver Is that really unique to America?

  • Katana wo-orose.. OROSE!! Epic XD

  • Never quit . . Never, never quit . . die first. Ahhhh . . the good old days.

  • @ThisIsDCOg what was that from. Please tell me. I really don't know what you're referring to: "Never quit...Never,never quit...die first. Ahhhh."

  • tom got banged...at least they both showed a slight bit of respect for each other

  • we all love watching tom cruise getting the beejezus beat out of him with a stick don't we? lol

  • 1:46 Ujio was like 'seriously dude? again?'

  • I think Ujio was seeing a bully pick on a kid and showed what it was like. However, respect was gained when he didn't quit and kept getting up.

  • @Hambone57 algren is tests his western swordmanship against the kid's local one. ujio is angry thinking algren is looking down on their sword style. he steps to prove algren is inferior. it's a clash of culture reflection, swordsmanship style being the cultural difference. see algren does't attack the kid, only repels it, reflecting on algren attempt to examine their culture carefully. ujio attack on algren reflects anger on west culture that cause japan to scorn their ways as old and inferior

  • @Hambone571 One of toms rare good films, i truly fucking love this movie squire.

  • @Hambone571 nice thoughts, but Ujio actually wants to kill him. But has not got the permission to do so.

  • @mrdanni it's more-so in between the two

  • @Hambone571 i thinl it was also to remind every one that he is still the enemy and was mabe reminding every 1 in the village :) the music goes so well in that scene

  • @Hambone571 Possibly...I think the main theme in this scene is the fundamental difference in philosophy between the two cultures. Algren's culture has taught him that "if at first you fail, try try try again", ie never give up, which is completely foreign to the Samurai. That's why Ujio's face expression is angry the whole scene, but also confused/surprised at the same time at his constant getting back up.

  • @topherno Precisely. It was to illustrate the difference between seppuku / hari kari when you are defeated... and NEVER accepting defeat until you can't walk, can't talk, can't breathe, can't see, can't move.

  • @Hambone571

How was he being a bully? He was invited, "You try" and not once did he strike the child.

  • I dont understand this scene

  • @FangBoi127 it shows that he is not giving up, which is what a samurai does. They fight to the death and he was testing his will to fight and stand.

  • @foodbug Who was testing who?

  • @Dragon22873 Ujio(Hiroyuki Sanada) is testing Nathan(Tom)

  • @foodbug Well I hardly see stealing his bamboo sword as testing him xD

  • @FangBoi127 even at the face of death, samurai can not quit.

  • A man thinks of nothing is a man full of everything. If to be a mind of a warrior think no surrounding. No mind

  • One of the mose beautiful scenes.....Ever

  • Para pelos!!

  • Never give up!

  • awesome

  • this scene is just great
