ya that's exactly what happens. i did some searchin' on how to go about playing loyalty missions and they don't recommend pickin up the IFF and then doing the loyalty missions because then that causes all ur captured crew from the collector attack on ur ship to die when u go to take em down. instead, right after u get the IFF there is a small window of time for u to do legion's mission and ONLY legion's mission if u want ur crew to stay alive.
@Link9164 Ummm actually... I did this mission last Friday-night AFTER acquiring the Reaper IFF and Legion. In actuality and the game's actuality it's about 2 to 3 missions before the Collector's come for the Normandy SR2 crew. After I did Acquire Reaper IFF and reactivated Legion, I IMMEDIATELY did Tali's loyalty mission and WITH Legion in tow. It was amazing and fun to see how all the quarians, of all roles reacting to Legion in their own ways. Trust me, that is what happened and it worked!!!
You picked a character with AI hacking. That's smart. I rarely fire a bullet on Geth missions. I just get Garrus and Miranda to take down their shields and then hack the toughest constantly.
An interesting line from Admiral Raan for Legion may in fact be a blessing of sorts after you save the Alarei.

@finstrike7 I never heard her say that. I love Admiral Raan because her voice actress is one of my favorite actresses in the world. Her accent is real too. She's west Persian. I loved her in the Stoning of Soraya M. That's a movie everyone needs to see. It's a true story and really heart breaking.

I did this mission last night and it was fun seeing all the admiral's reactions to Legion. Plus I chose to rally the crowd, get Veetor'Nara and Kal'Reegar up there to help defend Tali. But yes, I made up that line for Admiral Shala'Raan vas Tombay. I figured her character and who she is would say that about Legion. Maybe.
@finstrike7 Well you must have done a good job because I believed she might have really said it and I just missed it. I did the renegade option even though I could have done paragon too. I just liked Shepard yelling at the admirals and putting them back in their place. Everything she said was deserved too. I did this without enough points last time so I rallied the crowd and it was nice seeing the men defend Tali. I wish they could have defended her on the renegade or paragon options too.

They all look related like the whole galaxy is populated by inbred humans, add the haircut & it's a young Chakwas. (But when have you seen a mother & daughter with the same haircut?). My Shep looks really unique but she took over a week to make, many of the bars are maxed/min which requires many tweaks to even out. I'll have to share her.

How do u have crew members alive? I ask because, I cant see how u can get Legion for Tali's mission UNLESS, you did the Derelict Reaper/IFF mission early, THEN decided NOT to go save the crew right away and then do THIS mission.
OR---
You didnt do Tali's loyalty before the suicide mission---but were lucky in keeping her alive. Then you did Tali's mission AFTER u beat the game.
OR---
this is some earlier unpatched version where you had time to do missions after getting the IFF
@onyxNAS You have time to do 1 or 2 missions after the crew gets kidnapped before yeoman chambers gets killed. So if you do Tali's loyalty right after the kidnapping you are able to make it work.
but the only way that could work if after the crew is taken--you do THIS mission instead of Legion's loyalty mission, which risks HIM dying if he's not in your party during the suicide run.
@onyxNAS As long as you have all of the upgrades, don't pick legion for any important position, and make logical choices for party leaders and such, everyone will live. I recently did this and got everyone to survive.
I dunno. Maybe if you have him in your party the whole time during the suicide run to up your chances. But that would mean that there's a slight chance he will die after you beat the reaper larva. And if he's with the HOLD THE LINE group, and everyone else is loyal---then he's about 99% likely to die for sure.
Basically, keep him with you to up your odds, and just cross your fingers that by some lucky chance, he wakes up after the reaper larva is killed. It's luck

"You can do one mission after the crew is captured and then you have to go directly to the Omega 4 relay. You can do one mission before the crew is captured after you get the IFF.
So do the IFF mission, do Tali's loyalty mission, the crew gets captured and then do Legion's loyalty mission and go straight to Omega 4 and you can save the crew and see Legion on Tali's mission. "--(Thanks to Sulik2)

Nah, 'nuking' is too easy. Build a time machine, get Tali and Garrus to join you. Then come back in time to Bioware's office and let Garrus do his job while Tali reminds the empoyees that 'she has a shotgun'.

There is no 'canon' just default, and unfortunately we have no way to determine this until Bioware releases information on ME3. I imagine it will heavily hinge upon if squad mates are returning in active roles or being cameo'd. In the case of the latter, it will probably be handled similar to how ME was. eg. everyone is dead.

@Ioini Ya ME1 > ME2 for story.. I hate the Collectors as enemies. Almost feels like they are a half asses enemy thrown in with a bit of a background story. They're gritty "flood" look just doesn't fit the game imo. I was happier when the Geth were the main enemy. But after ME2 I see them in a new light. They're just trying to get by just like everyone else and they have been vilified by the Quarians which is the reason for their hostilities in the first place.

after you get legion and keep him, you can only do 1 mission before the crew is kidnapped :/
which mean to save to be able to save your whole crew, you can't bring legion on this mission, you have to do it before reqruiting legion

@darklordbygeorge2512 okay---after doing some digging, I''ve found a formula to get this safely.
"You can do one mission after the crew is captured and then you have to go directly to the Omega 4 relay. You can do one mission before the crew is captured after you get the IFF.
So do the IFF mission, do Tali's loyalty mission, the crew gets captured and then do Legion's loyalty mission and go straight to Omega 4 and you can save the crew and see Legion on Tali's mission. "--(Thanks to Sulik2)

There is no 'canon' just default, and unfortunately we have no way to determine this until Bioware releases information on ME3. I imagine it will heavily hinge upon if squad mates are returning in active roles or being cameo'd. In the case of the latter, it will probably be handled similar to how ME was. eg. everyone is dead.

@SnIkLeeT First Mass Effect was great in story, it's combat is not as good as ME2. I just hope ME3 will have some RPG elements this time around.
I do love ME2 for it's gameplay but not for it's lackluster story, it's got great characters but the story suffers because of it.

@Ioini Ya ME1 > ME2 for story.. I hate the Collectors as enemies. Almost feels like they are a half asses enemy thrown in with a bit of a background story. They're gritty "flood" look just doesn't fit the game imo. I was happier when the Geth were the main enemy. But after ME2 I see them in a new light. They're just trying to get by just like everyone else and they have been vilified by the Quarians which is the reason for their hostilities in the first place.
