@thatkindofguy234 Well i think he said ABS is lego plastic. Imagine a lego but completely solid. And I do believe with the right tweaks you can use many different types of materials.
@3goldy feel free to pop down to Bath uni and do that yourself :) I don't edit (yet). I don't have to now either, since I can now upload long videos :)
What a genius item. A machine that makes nearly everything and that can nearly replicate itself out of some crappy milk bottles that would probably just get thrown into the bin. Hay how good would it be if they could develop this technology so that people in the third world could make there own Internet enabled computer.
How totally refreshing to watch, a very creative video like this instead of beer guns and ammo, ( the american Hollywood way) fantastic stuff guys, NICE 1. the subject totally captivates me...
What a superb man.... why not add a part 2 instead of cutting him off at the end... i dunno some camera operators have no directional skills lol.... next time make it 2 parts and a lot more of Adrian's work... truly inspiring!
@jammapcb at the time youtube wouldn't let videos last longer than 10 mins, and I personally don't like vids that have to be watched in parts. Each to their own I guess - no need to criticise my "directional skills" though - this is one of my earliest video and has over 54000 more view than any video you've uploaded! :P
@jdaviescoates thats geek sneary lol..do you mean my test vids for youtubes crappy codec conversions.. yeah veoh does a better job for HD..54k views though is not important when the video sucks...you should of showed what the machine can do .not just talk about it ffs lol. timelapse with a pro camera and prime lens would be a good start. so far nearly every video sucks for showing off this unit..blurry, seasick, motion glitches, piss poor audio, generally 1 million impressions but sucky videos!
@jammapcb You may think the video sucks, I think its great! (although of course there is always lots of room for improvement - but its had many more likes than dislikes. My guess is that your viewpoint is very marginal, although valid nontheless). If you want something done properly, do it yourself, I guess! :P (saying that, if you post me a pro camera I'll happily try to arrange myself another trip down to Bath!)
I was about to ask you to recommend a good value one, but my flip video camera doesn't appear to even have ability to plug an external mic in. Personally I don't think the sound is too bad.
@visionontv the whole video is perfectly audible, no? Are you listening on headphones? Guess that would make the different volumes a bit more noticeable. Hmz, perhaps I should try to normalise the sound or something. Then again that goes against the whole simplicity of shot, upload, done :)
So bottomline is that you need eletricity, polylactic acid and a 3D printing machine (RepRap) to provide useful hometools/appliances and donate them around the world. I'm no chemist but where or how do we make polylactic acid? What are we waiting for, let's build the world with these awesome machines... for free!
for the poster adhear copper or allumimin foil to an object then use a spinning head to cut the foil.
a pager motor with a sharp tip can cut foils.
the uneded foil is cut like the inverse to masking circuits.
you may also consider conductive glue.
as soldering will melt your plastic goldmine electronics sells a glue that is conductive to stick parts to your foil i do the same with paper and foil.
i first saw this in the documentary "zeitgeist moving forward". it was only a small clip of it printing such things as a screwdriver, its own parts ect. i'm amazed to see here that it has such incredible potential! sandals, somebody has mentioned here that it could print a phone in years to come. given that it is open source i believe further down the line it could print apartments and houses! wow!
@ramp2tramp a bit late but do you how many that house could cost from now and the factory it self to build big 3D printer and how many resources do it cost...that is question
He is a saint, he could have made billions with this, it said that in 10-15 years you can print your own phone, and for him to give this software away is unreal :D
Talking about making the polymer, not quite sure how dry it would need to be. I have access to a very large vacuum oven. Could you heat and then vacuum to bring as much moisture out as possible?
The greatest thing about this is that it's open source. That's why the internet is so awesome and that's why these 3d printers give me hope for the future.
Great concept,. 1 thing missing is $ for R&D and Support. This set up might work for the avg geek in his garage who wants to play around with the technology, but from a business stand point, no company is going to purchase something that doesn't come with support. That is why the Z Corp/Stratasys, 3DS, etc have been able to sell their equipment for so much more $. That and the fact they they put more money into the R&D of their machines... You get what you pay for.
I love the part when you are able to shred your plastic residues and turn them into "ink" for RepRap!
I want.
