I also find it somewhat hard to believe the guy being interviewed cannot get his papers together. When my family wanted to move to the U.S. my mom tells me (for I was 3yo at the time) that the Mexican authorities were very unwilling to let us go and even explicitly told my parents that by leaving to the U.S. we would be taking away future Mexican citizens. But in the end Mexico is not Cuba and we were able to leave and now by Mexican law I am also a Mexican citizen, all I have to do is reclaim.

@bryngOneOn Yes, the average Mexican cop is armed. In some smaller towns they might only carry sticks and radios, but with the current problems in Mexico most police are indeed armed. Often police in banks, on special assignements etc will have sub-machine guns. Shotguns, AR-15's, and many other weapons are routinely issued to the police. Most cops carry a semi-automatic pistol. But revolvers are also seen as well.

People say Mexico looks poor and rundown, what about places like South side Chicago, New Orleans, Compton etc in the US? If you only saw those places you would think all of the US is a cesspool. Mexico has rich areas, nice parts of town, sleepy little villages, plenty of great beaches, and even in a rough, grity industrial area there are often many good things (industry=jobs).

The US has just as many bad areas and way more druggies than Mexico does.
