(CONTINUED) That makes it useless for just about anything else other than slides (with the "glide" at that high of a setting)... I experienced this on the Arturia "Minimoog V", AND the "Minimonsta"... Haven't tried Sampletank "Samplemoog" yet or that other free 1 I heard about, but thus far nobody has gotten this right (& thats crazy because I have other softsynths that NAIL this ("imposcar" for one & even "Model Pro" [a Moog Prodigy emulation softsynth which is FREE smh/lol]). -B
CONTINUED) If you do a quick "slide" up or down across multiple octaves with the "glide" AND "legato" switches on, it should be the same idea where it sounds SMOOTH like ALL the notes are "connected" without any separation whatsoever... On the original minimoog, thats what happens with glide at like at 9:00).. On all the softsynths i've tried, this is a HUGE flaw as only way this happens is if you turn the "glide" up to an obnoxiously high amount (roughly 2:00 on the Arturia Minimoog V!!!!)...
The only common flaw that I have found in EVERY minimoog softsynth i've tried to date is the envelope re-triggering... Playing in small intervals (1 semitone, 1 whole-step) with the "glide" AND "legato" switches on, the notes stay "connected" & don't sound like the filters are "re-triggering"...
@bulletinthewind: I, too, call it "MOO g"; but the guy who invented these damn things, Robert Moog, actually pronounced it "Mogue", just like the narrator.
@bulletinthewind: actually, it's pronounced the way the narrator says it. Bob Moog (the man who it's named after) is on record (and on video) saying he himself pronounces it to rhyme with "vogue."
@fooloof Cheers for the info bruz....appreciate the clarification...it's still annoying but I gotta live with it I guess......nah....fuck it.....MOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!!!!! =P
@bulletinthewind: ha ha. I still call it "moog" and not "mogue." I think most people say it that way...
I've got one with the middle batch of oscillators, meaning after R.A. Moog and before the really stable (yet, supposedly not quite as fat sounding) ones made in '78, I think.
I love artoria stuff, used them for years....ive decided to sell my 6 artoria synths....need to sell as 1 package as the licence for all 6 synths is on 1 dongle
What can I say, the original is amazingly cool and the software is cool too in this case! One thing that would be missing from the comparison is the freakin amazing feel of the original keyboard, switches, pot's and sliders. I have never felt anything like it really, and I have owned and played lot's of synths.
It does not seem to have have the randomness and sheer power and depth of the original oscillators. But the general sounds and overall character... I must say I am impressed and may just get it for the easy part of what software brings (presets) But I doubt if you would catch me making a fat bass or butterfull lead line on software. For the polyphonic pads and the effects, that's a nice addition indeed. Of coarse with today's computer DAWs I can at least add effects after the fact if I so desire
OK, I am lucky enough to own one of the original Minimoog D models so I would like to comment (sorry, I know you dudes are jealous, I don't take it for granted) I don't actually own this software though. But for the first time I am listening to software that is coming something close.
i always thought the minimoog wasn't as great as it's reputation. other than doing really chunky sounding square wave leads & basses, the rest of it's sounds remind me of crappy 70s sci-fi movies. LOL
later synths with more controls like prophet 5s etc give a more sophisticated sound to my ears, but then again, i've heard some pretty boring sounding modulars too. maybe my taste in sounds is just different than moog users
brian eno squeezed a lot of crazy sounds from his little oscar (i think)
you don't even have to buy software. there are TONS of freeware synths out there and i'm sure there are a few of each of the most popular old school synths.
it's true REAL analogue sounds better, but for a few THOUSAND less, a simulation with a little processing is close enough. there are freeware synths out there too that do what no hardware one can like acoustic modelling of metal or strings

If they are musicians why cant they afford real Moog?
lukuntri 6 months ago
@lukuntri Real one: 2300 bucks. Software version (assuming you got a midi kyeboard): 180.
They both sound practically the same. That cash saving could be really helpful for other stuff, you know.

You can use this as a synth plug in on cakewalk, it won’t record sound.
Hope this helps,
