  • Thinkpads may appear to look weak and cheap, but if you break down the actual structure and design of the units, you'll see that they are in fact built quite well. Take for example the honey comb lid designs, only now being duplicated by others (like Mac), has been used by Thinkpads for the past 10yrs. Same goes for their so called uni-body struture. This is NOTHING new to a Thinkpad! They may not be edgy and cool, but they're nothing short of cutting edge! PS: I sold my Mac for a Lenovo.

  • Don't really know what you're talking about do you? IBM's never been known for poor quality products.

  • Comment removed

  • Crappy products? The PC division went to shit because they couldn't compete with the cheaper clone manufacturers, not because they were "poor quality."

  • Right...

*wonders why his old ThinkPad has outlasted every other laptop he's had*

  • This computer cost more than the contemporary iBooks, and even today Lenovo products are generally more expensive than other PC makers. I'm sorry that your ignorance isn't getting you anywhere.

  • Comment removed

  • please learn to "read"

"contemporary iBooks" refers to the Apple laptops sold back in 2002 when I bought that laptop

your problem is that you associate quality with "shiny and pretty"

  • Really, what laptop do you have, idiot?

  • oh another apple fanboy

go somewhere else, loser, these laptops are for real work.

  • right... learn some history.

IBM products have been used in film and graphics design for years. In fact, products based on IBM processors were the leading platform for creative work for many years - ever heard of PowerPC Macs?

Of course you're an Apple fanboy who thinks "WELL NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE HARDWARE IS IT STILL RUNS WINBLOWS LOL" and IBM is definitely not dying - after all, they manufacture processors for many consumer electronics products - ever heard of the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii? :)

  • and you don't seem to know about the computer industry so please don't comment about shit you know NOTHING about.

do you know which company has designed four of the top 10 supercomputers on the planet? IBM. you're just ignorant.

  • american stupidity? what, living a few miles north of the border entitles you to criticize americans? right.

You can't even spell properly and you're calling me "god dam stupid." IBM isn't going to fail any time soon, so stop talking out of your ass.

  • let's see...

film student? check. can't spell for shit? check. believes stereotypes? check.

    you're an idiot.

I'm not a redneck and I never said "AMERICA IS BEST #1 LOL." also, you're clearly desperate.

seriously, how old are you? 14? nah, you're older than that, but you simply cannot act your own age and you resort to childish insults whenever you can't get your way or prove your point. lol.

  • how is my computer shitty, then?

can you tell me specific reasons why I should have chosen a mac, let alone a dell or gateway laptop?

  • Comment removed

  • dells are reliable but they have lackluster components.

maybe you don't know shit about computers, mr. robert haze?

  • Comment removed

  • okay, we have about 200 dell desktops (optiplexes) in our computer labs and we rarely have issues with them.

how do you know that those "bestbuy repairshop numbers" aren't software issues?

  • i mustn't know, obviously, even though I'm in charge of that, right?

    shit quality?

  • I can truly see why Thinkpad looks old...

  • yes old, but also looks functional, sturdy. I think they have their own charm, the Bauhaus style is function must come before form, and if implemented well, the functional look works well. I agree with it, it looks sturdy and well built, a computer should be functional before it is fashionable, unlike macs, which look nice, but are cheaply made, and break easily, and are stupidly priced for poor hardware and an indifferent OS.

  • have you actually used a thinkpad?

  • yes i acrually have 2 thinkpads, and if you ask me for proof that just shows me how desperate you are to own me, i prefer Macs

  • Something tells me you're just a macfag... one who's never owned a ThinkPad.

Let's throw our laptops down a flight of stairs and see who's laptop still works.

Look and feel cheap? They feel sturdy and look simple, they're not made to be fashionable, just functional and reliable.

The screens are good, and the small viewing angle is intentional.

  • Well done, so you've already established that I don't have a thinkpad JUST because I don't like them? and They actually have large viewing angles which is very nice but to me, I don't like the way they process their manufacturing of their products. On the other hand, everybody has been raving on how the new unibody macbooks feel so sturdy and strong becuase of they way they manufacture them. They feel like one solid piece, no screws or lines except for the battery and hard drive removal

  • I guess you've never seen a laptop with 170 degrees viewing angle...

No clue what manufacturing process implies, they're manufactured very well... no poorly seated heatsinks.

This may be hard for you to comprehend, but ThinkPads are designed for hardware preservation.

    =Iw78gcU713g

Aluminum is a marketing tool, people think metal is strong, so it HAS to be durable, but it's METAL, shock G's go right into the hardware and kill BGA, it's not resilient.

    Looks =/= Quality

    =-CrpUU3cCPE

  • I find the build quality to be crap. Apple ues magnetic compnents instead of latches, whole body is one piece. The more objects rienforced together; the ore vunerable it is to breaking

  • "I find the build quality to be crap."

    With no justifiable reason.

That only "magnetic component" is the DC plug... I think I'll stick to my cheaper, more reliable transformer and conventional plug.

The body being a single piece of metal is not good design unless looks are more important then keeping the hardware safe.

  • Macs are horrid; you can see the desktop through all of the interfaces, there is no maximize (you can only drag windows in the bottom right corner), etc etc etc. IBM invented all of the parts in macs (RAM, Power PC, HDD, PS/2, etc). Besides the ThinkPad, IBM has other products like the IntelliStation which has lights on the motherboard and light up in a area which may be causing the problem - Macs don't have anything like that, and they are built like a shell; no possible way to open them.

  • Love the designs of the Thinkpads and their sturdiness/solidity. Every component seems to be placed on the right spot and they coexist very harmoniously in an abundant air flowing space. I hate the plastic feel, the flimsiness, the weight, and the glossy look of the average mainstream laptop. I am so happy with my T42 atm, the next laptop I'll get will probably be the x300 which will probably stay with me for a few years.

  • i like x300 however my ideal laptop would be 15.4 inch,

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)

    4GB DDR2 System Memory

    512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

    802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth

160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive + optical drive

and not thicker than think pad x300.

Can Lenovo do that???? hope they can, and let it be a think pad spill resistant + a track point, and let it be a tablet with wacom touch screen!!!!!!

    that is my ideal computer

    and is not here yet...:(

  • love thinkpad love lenovo

  • im sorry, i love thinkpads, but this video is boring as hell!!

  • love x300!!!

  • so mi guess is theryre way bettr and have more compatilbilty than the mac book air?????

  • The Thinkpads are brilliant as an industrial design masterpiece. It has a strong design heritage that goes back decades, and it's also engineered to last.

  • with Thinkpads... you want to own it forever.. with Mac... you just want to get rid of the old products, once another new product comes out after 5 months, as you will be seen as uncool or cheap ass if you still use the old Mac product... so which one is better....

  • He just put into words what my exact emotions of my Thinkpad are. It's my teddy bear.

  • WoW the father of ThinkPad!
