  • i have one to and i have to fix it to

  • I have a 17' DCL lcd model # DCL9C my computer detects it but all I'm getting is a white screen and the buttons don't work do you have any idea's what the problem could be?

  • so you doubled the voltage but still remain at 470uf? thats way underrated your damn lucky it works in SERIES theyd double the uf but remember youre still under 1000 uf and itd run through the first cap so youre a bit limited. it can be done but best to get the PROPER cap they are dirt cheap and dont risk an expensive lcd monitor. especially in the psu

  • Thanks for the tutorial! I have the same model doing the same issue! Was going to throw it out, but gonna fix it now. Its nice to have a spare 17"LCD around anyway... Thanks again, great job!

  • Thanks for the vid! I was able to do the same to a similar model Optiquest Q9B-2. Replaced the 2 Capacitors with 1000 uf 32v and FIXED!

Interesting note: The capacitors did not look blown at first glance, the tops were just barely "domed" so I figured to replace them, The DMM shown not storing the rated farads.

  • Why not just buy one capacitor at the right value (1000uf / 16V)? $0.20 plus a buck or two shipping too much to pay to do the job right?

  • @plezercruz I used what I had on hand. And the job still got done correctly ;-)

    Thanks for watching !

  • thank you for your videos. The problem is i have replaced the capacitors in the power supply of a Samsung monitor (Power Board IP-35135B). I even replaced the ones that looked fine in case they couldn't hold up charge anymore. Still no success. Back light still doesn't lightup. I know for a fact its the power supply problem because i have tried it with a different known working one and the monitor lights up.

Do you have any solution? Could it be other problems such as transistors or coils?

  • Ive got a Proview 19 inch LCD monitor,

    turn it on,

boot's up, all window's come up,

but then it goes black and stay's like that,

Hear a slight hissing or crackling noise,

    Please Help ok,

    Kansas Guy,

  • @kirkconway You really need to open it up and have a look at the capacitors on the power supply board. If any are bulged, you stand a good chance of repair...

  • @kirkconway It could be capacitors gone bad, but it's hard to say without trouble shooting. It might be something else wrong. If your not a technician, I'd advise you to not take the monitor apart.

  • @kirkconway

    Hello

I have the Optiquest 19 in and when I turn it on I hear a sqealing noise. The capacitors seem fine on visual inspection but the squealing sound sounds like a capacitor issue. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

  • was the montor for you dad???

  • wow. So very grateful of this video. I just picked up one of these monitors from the trash (who the hell throws out LCD monitors?!) and had the exact problem you just described as well the IDENTICAL cap you replaced looks like it's popped on my power supply board. Will pick up some caps to see if I can bring this beast back to life. If it works im selling it for 80$...Who knew you could find money on the ground.

  • Recently when I turn off my monitor it turns white because the lamps inside dont turn off. I opened it up and noticed 4 bulging capacitors.

Will replacing these fix my problem?

  • i have a problem with my emachine 19in monitor, it simply does not turn on sometimes and needs almost a day for it to be on, any 1 with any idea how this can be fixed

  • i have a problem with my emachine 19in monitor, it simply does not turn on sometimes and needs almost a day for it to be on, any 1 with any idea how this can be fixed

  • Fixed an Optiquest Q9b-2 using this same technique - Radio Shack had a 1000uF @ 35VDC capacitor that worked just fine. Just $1.79 later and I have a working monitor!!! Thanks for posting this video.

  • but usual you can look some line on the monitor gren red blue or any stuff like " no signal " if don't get nothing tha mean you lcd is done you need to open and check the power suply...

  • I tested for bad defective capacitor and all were good. one day it was raining and the light went out, and when the light came back my pc started but my lcd dont. what else can go bad ?

  • Did you verify your video card is working by testing it with a known working monitor?

If so and you've confirmed you have video signal from the PC then its back to tracing out the problem in your monitor. If it was a power surge its most likley in the first stage of the power supply.

  • So, were you able to find the defective capacitor simply by visual inspection? Good job! My degrees are in electrical engineering, but I've done almost nothing electrical at work in the last 15 years. I kinda miss it.

  • I did test the capacitor with the VOM and it was shorted. Capacitors sometimes bulge like this one did when they go bad with a short.

I know what you mean when you say you miss it. Last time I was working at a electronics repair shop was 19 years ago !!! But I still do repairs and enjoy my Amateur Radio hobby :-)

  • Damn! And to think I threw away an otherwise perfectly good ten year old TVM CRT color monitor that wouldn't come on when I hit the switch because all it might have needed was two 470 microfarad capacitors in parallel? Double damn!

Sure wish I knew what I just wrote :)

  • :-)

  • So now you have a larger monitor..to go with your power washer....not bad.

  • Thats right !! LOL ;-)

  • I'm currently fresh out of Optiquest Q7B-3 computer LCD monitors..

..but should I ever need to repair a Banana, then I guess the same principles will apply.. :) :)

  • @BasicModelling Yes bananas Rob !!!!

  • All I can say is.....I'm monitoring you on this one!

  • Good job Chris! WooHoo!

    luv ya!

  • @bugsinrug Thank you !!!!

  • Very nice repair. You saved yourself some big bucks too.

  • @SkyFitsHeaven24 Thanks Steve !!!

  • Chris, you make me proud! You solved that problem, upgraded your computer and also upgraded your inherited computer as well!

And I am still left with a complete system to donate to our favorite charity resale that has just opened up again after that tragic fire last year. We all win!

PS: Also... Thanks again for your audio setup expertise on my computer today. Works great!

  • @johnnyould Yes I'm going to put my old small LCD on your old computer (thank you) for downstairs....

just thinking how to get internet down there?

CAT 5 cable or another modem to the phone line???

  • Yer so smart Chris!! :-)

Guess I didn't have to buy a new monitor after all!

    Way to go!!

    And explained very well!!

    Love ya!! :-)

  • @nancyleeould I'll sell you this one for 200 bucks ;-)
