Looks like Disney have got hold of this area, and unfortunately this canyon of beauty has been cheapened by this money-making tourist trap.If you wana see the real grand canyon and not this shallow stuff, then head for the North Rim
We drove 3 hrs. from Las Vegas and as we got closer, it turned into a dirt road with heavy traffic of tourist buses and rental cars. As soon as we got to the welcome center, they told us to buy $85/person ticket to get to the skywalk. We got so frustrated, turned around and drove another 3 hrs. to get to the north rim, all we have to pay is $25./car to get to The Grand Canyon State Park, and it was well worth it, we saw a herd of elks at the park grazing all over the place.
From Tusayan is better... So much... You can sleep in any resort, get the elicopter, or drive near grand canyon for al lot of miles... You can sit on the precipice...
thanks for your comments gamer00341...we were heading there to see it in 3 weeks but did,nt realise it was such a scam... you saved my good kiwi bucks....come to New Zealand were everything is FREE
FUCK SKYWALK I HOPE WHOEVER CREATED IT KILLS HIMSELF AND GOES TO HELL. CUASE NOBODY WOULD PAY 75 BUCKS TO BE ONLY ALLOWED TO STAY THERE FOR 10 SECONDS AND NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES. I REALLY HOPE THAT THE DUDE WHO THOUGHT OF THIS DIES AND GOES TO HELL. THATS WHERE HE BELONGS.
@anableps67360 they learned that from the Master....the white devil....been doing that for thousands of years...parasites. I live in Az,drive by a rez almost everyday...see the devils work,
If the weather is bad they won't let you in and there's no way to know about the forecast in advance; 30 miles of unpaved road, lack of information at the website as well as the visitors center (no signs anywhere) you need be to asking people all the time about every single little detail, $70.00 to walk the thing ...... was not worth it for me.
i went on it and it is awsome! dont listen to catanan. there is a food place accually very close and you can drive out there you dont need to take a bus. its well worth the money
Wow, I love the Grand Canyon and I always thought hat the Skywalk was part of the National Park and was free! You have to pay to get on and can't bring a camera? That IS a ripoff!!!! There are many places along the rim where you get a breath taking view and can see down hundreds of feet! I'll steer clear of the rip off "Skywalk"
I don't think it will collapse anytime soon. In the show " Life After People" (history channel i think) it was like 50,000 years or maybe it was longer, before it just fell into the canyon on its own. More of a concern i think would be a glass panel falling out, and you and who ever is standing on it falling. The glass weighs like 400 pounds or something, and is like 7 inches thick. I would go on it, i'd just be nervous.. who wouldn't unless you have a death wish lol
It is not worth to go there. No camera allowed ! ! !
My friend tried to hide his camera and walked through the metal detector. He got Beep. The guard was not too happy when he found the camera in loose coat. He had to give his camera to the guard... He told me that it is not worth at ALL ! !
Yes, They must use special socks . So the bottom will not get scratches.
The road is very rough to drive, Not recommended to drive trucks or SUV. The rocks are pretty sharp and pretty big.
Just got back from 5 days in Vegas. Took a day tour to the Canyon and got the chance to go out on the skywalk. SCARY!
The walkway has a glass bottom and when I got out near the end of it, a couple of guys started jumping on it. No cameras allowed on the walk but there is a photogragher out there to take your picture if you want.
Was there last year. The pix they take are VERY expensive to buy. I suspect that's why they don't let you take your camera altho they say it's because they don't want to chance anything dropping and scratching the floor.
@pajamamama5 no you are not allowed to crap in there because it may hit the floor and break the glass. Besides at the rate you're paying you might do better to crap on your own free time. :)
Nice video, thanks. I was planning to go there soon, so can you tell me about the hidden expenses and the ordeal? There are lots of places to see the GC, so I'd rather know about this one before making the trip. Thanks.
like it it is sad and reminds me of my friend that was sadly killed last yearbecause of reading chain letters and now that you have read this eshe will slowly kill you hear a ring in ear she will make your life shorter by a day post this to five different vids to be saved sorry
Yeah the canyon is cool but who would go to this spot and pay?? ..com'on what a waste of money and time! buy pix??..what a joke and its a ugly eye sore!..lets hope this goes the way of the buffalo!
And they charge because they need to make money to fly thier helocopters, not just to make money. But I,ve never been there personally but I will go some day.
It is nice but the experience sucked overall. After you pay $75.00 a person to get to it ($35 the bus ticket -there is no other way to get to it-, $35 the skywalk entrance fee, $5 taxes) you can't use your own camera to take pictures or video, but you can pay $30.00 for a picture from them. No restaurants within 100 miles radius. I and my family (4 people) spent over 500 dollars to see it and have pictures as a memory. Booooo, Stay Away. RIPOFF
@driver521221 Yeah, well, it's probably better to pay money for an optional skywalk than to have your entire race murdered, land taken and every belief pulverized.
Just sayin'.
And, I am a white guy. I'm just not completely ignorant to how much we've been the complete assholes of history.
@driver521221 Some people like the experience of standing on a platform over a huge canyon. some people just cant realize what there actually experiencing and dont take it in :\ yes it costs a lot, so dont spend your money on it. Some people actually have the money to waste on this.
correct me if im wrong, its an expensive toll road 4 humans if u ask me, i heard it just ouside the national park on Indian land, this is how the indians (who own the skywalk, fact!!!) can get back at Non Native white man's invasion of the Wild West years ago, look whos gettin shafted now, in case ur wonderin, i stayed n looked at the Canyon from the south rim, nice view...
wait for your ground tour to finish and you will be rewarded. This sky walk is over priced and with a picture it will cost you $60 or more. No camera allowed. An expensive tourist trap
lame, lame...yeap...it's all about money. I just hope they use it to preserve this phenomenal, almost unreal thing that's the Grand Canyon. I am not looking forward to seeing this stupid thing called Skywalk next time I go there.
man that was before the cafe and the gift shop and even before the mounted cameras on there its a lot different now (soon it will be even more different because there going to have a whole building around the entrance to the skywalk)
Ya, it sounds expensive, but so's a day at Disneyland. This answers many tourists long speculations what it would be like if they could just walk in air over The Grand Canyon. Well, here it is!! 8D
That's not a well thought out analogy. People don't spend a day on the Skywalk...or even an hour. Maybe about 20 minutes. People would not spend all that money to go to Disneyland if there was only one attraction. If you are a first time tourist seeing the Grand Canyon from the rim will be reward itself (certainly has thrilled all these years). The Grand Canyon is all about the majesty and quiet. If you are a local this will seem a bit silly.
Yes, you spend the day or more at Disneyland, but what the Skywalk offers is something that has been asked for for by Americans for all ages. It's a small price to pay for those who want it.
No it's not. Most Americans haven't asked for this. No one else even thought of it. They have appreciated the Grand Canyon the way it has been. Spoiling it with a concrete structure is not what they have been asking for. How idiotic can someone be that would stand at the rim of the Grand Canyon and say, 'I know hundreds of thousands have enjoyed this before me, but its just not enough for me.' I call this structure the idiot playpen.
You're completely wrong. Many Americans have been thinking of this for thousands upon thousands of years, as would be normal. They finally built one just for that purpose. Hence, why you see it actually built there in front of you. lol Not all want it, no, but it's there for those who do.
argh, it's people like you who really do spoil it for the rest of us. can't you just have an open mind and see that this is an amazing feat that's been appreciated by thousands of people? I've been on it, so i should know. You call this an idiot playpen, you're just a plain idiot.
OMG - jeez ppl. chill out, if your into architecture or engineering you'll absolutely love the idea, and probably the design too. BUT shit, at least the tribe is collaborating with the state and it's economy. So give me a break, give them a break and go on with your anal lives. peace and love ;)
I visited the Grand Canyon before this Skywalk was built. After seeing this video, all I can say is that I'm disappointed. Not so much about the prices, but because it absoulutely RUINS THE NATURAL BEAUTY of the Canyons. It's sad to think that there are people who would do this to the landscape... all for money. Nature should be left in it's natural state. This skywalk needs to be removed immediately.
kind of stupid idea...nothing special and atractive
