I think the reason is because there was approximately 10,000 gallons left of jet fuel, that's about half the jet maxes out on, that itself is ridiculously heavy. Then besides the fire on that floor, the jet fuel is seeping through the ground unto lower levels. Eventually all this fire which can easily reach 1500 degrees weakens the structure. The softened metal, not melted but softened, gives in to the incredible weight at the top of the building. It would slowly burn down if it weighed less.
