this guy is a fucking show pony and if you support him you go against the morales of poker. This guy only sits at a table to earn money as he's said many times, he gets paid per hour just to sit there and say a few things here and their. He also did very well in i think it was the first season of high stakes poker but then ever since then he has gone into hermit mode, just trying not to fuck up hes reputation he earned over that season. He is extremely overrated as shown here, what a tight cunt.
ps. safai hollywoods a little too much in this hand. fuckin throw it away already, it won't make you look any different waiting around for another mintute when you know you're gonna throw it away. at least for TVs sake. i mean c'mon, you had rags with a open ended draw. that stupid raise isn't anything to contemplate.
should have said he flops open ended straight flush draw but can only make it with queen since safai has 6c. ofcourse safai doesnt have the poker skill to put laak on that hand and calculate his odds so i guess it;s ok.
He wanted to make sure the hand was played on the flop and not the turn if he's against a big hand. Safai should just snap fold everything but top set. I don't think he's just hiding his hand by taking the usual thinking time because he asked for rabbit hunting and said he didn't have the nut flush draw and I doubt he'd be folding 67 of clubs.
Laak is just making it funny for us to watch, as usual.
I think that's a good bet by Laak.. he is at the very worst a 3 to 2 dog against sets or higher flushdraws and he is a favorite against anything else with the exception of Queens.. in which case he is flipping..
With that hand you want to get it in right there on the flop, everytime.. there are many hand that will fold, many hands that could call and you are in pretty good shape even against the nuts..

horrible raise..poker is about maximizing your winnings and knowing when to fold. yeah he won 10k in 3 mins but at the stakes they are playing it is nothing and he can easily lose 5x that in the next three mins . you have to look at this as relative to their stacks and not think:"ooo 10k its so much money" for them its almost nothing.

I think if Laak bets the river it has to be with the intention of calling any raise, he otherwise should have just checked. Poorly thought out and played hand on his part.
@wdp103 Laak is considered quite a nit that only plays when he has an honest hand. He's not like Durrrr reraising any hand. Safai can't even beat a bluff, it's a blind fold the minute Laak reraises for such an amound. Safai is just a fat fucking overtanned Ernie that's there to look rich and spoil his money.
Any poker good poker player would know that the "I got two red queens" line was BS!!! All the same though it was still obviously a good fold. Safai made a good read with the A 2 of clubs. It was in that vicinity. Two red queens my ass....
@TheDrumhead A good fold? He had no choice in the hand, he had terrible odds to draw to the bottom end of a straight on a board with two clubs. Even if Phil had 84o it's an easy fold
@TheDrumhead A good fold? He has 7 high and is just drawing the bottom end of the open ender. Laak overraises and it's either shove or fold for Safai. How are you going to shove on that massive reraise with absolutely nothing and with no fold equity? You're even a huge underdog against a hand like 10 7 or J10 like Laak has here, plus about 90% of the other hand combinations. There is no way any sane player would even think about playing this hand any further.
u guys dont know nothing. how do u want to judge him, when u just see this sequence, u dont know if laak is on tilt and why he raises that much. maybe he got bullied before and raises on tilt or had side bets or whatever so stop talkin crap please
laak was looking to end the hand right now or get it all in with two cards to come. remember a OESFD is only 40% underdog to any set and you'd have 10 outs even if you were up against a hand like AcKc. plus against any other hand u are in a coin flip or a favorite
i think phil saw that guy's hand and thought the guy next to him wouldn't folded up&down str8 draw on the flop. if they all checks and turn comes blank then phil would not made any money on that particular hand.
Not really ridiculous. The point was he was putting safai all in (who started the hand with 90k), and forced dwan (holding more chips than Laak) to fold. If he makes a small or even pot sized raise on the flop dwan, who has position on Laak, is capable of bluffing the turn if he does not improve. Better to raise hard and take it down when you have tons of outs and 2 cards to come then being forced to fold on the turn. Even a call from someone holding the nuts (3 9's) is close to even money.
@UndercoverLdn The whole show is recorded and than chopped up, blame the producers for having this clip in, they never know which hands are going to be shown, I don't like the guys poker style, but it doesn't mean you've the right to complain when you're not even aware that he has no idea he is going to have the hand shown.
Who gives a fucking shit he thinks like 3 minutes over an absolute stupid call, all he has is an up&down straight draw, he's getting the worst possible odds and thinks he's cool by pretending he might call.
@UndercoverLdn Wow you've got some serious problems, you obviously don't understand poker, he was hollywooding he doesn't want the other players to know that he had a weak hand and got into the pot with it, with a raise, so he took time to fold, as if he had a hard decision to make, I'm sorry but you know nothing and I mean absolutely nothing about poker.
Hahaha how the fuck can you say with certainty I know nothing about poker just because I think Safai is a piece of shit? I understand people take a little time to not know they're holding a weak hand and hollywood a bit, but this is just overreacting. Any good poker player will agree with me, so do yourself a favor and fuck off; take the shortest road: off a cliff.
@UndercoverLdn How can I say for certainty? because you just thought a professional poker player, was taking too much time and you have no idea why he took so much time, you tried to accuse him of being an idiot and trying to get camera time, I than tried to explain to you he was holly wooding, sometimes, or maybe even wanted to gamble, How can I say for certain that you're horrible and know nothing about poker? because you just decided to personally insult me, because you were losing.
@UndercoverLdn Also it took bob 30-45 seconds to choose whether or not to call or fold, I've seen players with slimmer odds of winning take twice as long, and they take that long for their own reasons, Hey man if you don't like a poker player that's fine, but trying to call out someone, and not having your facts straight only makes you look like a jackass.
@UndercoverLdn How do you know? That's a huge scare bet, maybe Laak has top pair and doesn't want anyone seeing anymore cards. Dwan would call with 67 LOL
@coreycunninghamkarl I doubt it, even most stone cold bluffs have the better odds against 76o with such a huge raise, and top pair will win against Safai's hand roughly 2 out of three times. Considering what Laak really did have, even Aces has bad immediate odds. Off the top of my head, I think queens, nines, eights, and two clubs with a better high card are the only hands that have good immediate odds against this raise and this particular hand.
@UndercoverLdn actually he take some time because he have to take approximatively the same amount of time whatever decision he make to not give indication on what hand he have for the next games
@UndercoverLdn Do you have any idea what an "open ended straight - flush draw" is? He had 30% chances to win at turn and 60% till river NOT counting J's and 10's... I would prefer to you to call him "douchebag" for folding than for calling. Also that really weird overbet smells semi- bluf / lowpair.
I know what an "open ended straight - flushdraw" is, yes. But all Bob Safai had was an open ended straight draw. With such a big raise from Laak, Bob Safai was getting the worst possible odds to call. It was an instafold, but instead, he wanted some TV time and was acting like he had a huge decision on his hand.
@UndercoverLdn You obviously didn't get that... he had an open ended straight draw AND a flush draw (not to mention straight flush which would beat an opposed flush). Calculate the possibilities and you will see it is at least a call if not re-raise/all-in. It is pure mathematical situation. Easy decision, i don't know why he folded.
The problem I always have with these kind of hands when played the regular way is that my opponent will suspect I'm drawing and when a card comes on the turn that means I missed I'm gonna face a big bet and will be forced to fold. By keeping initiative, which Laak obviously does here, he's taking the play away and he'll win a small pot most of the time.
@jebussaves1 that depends, how many chips are already in the pot, what is my position, how are the other players acting, etc etc, your question im afraid cannot be answered
@jebussaves1 how big is my stack? how short is the shortest? how big is the largest? that is a total irrellavent question when the man here has a straight flush draw plus lots of other outs
@Filis87 I believe it is all a psychological game. Maybe he is trying to make it look like he is trying to bully the table. That raise is wayy to big for it to look like he has complete air. I dunno why I even bother guessing, this is wayyyyyy above my head.
Lol its not in the video, but Dwan says there is 0 % chance Laak had QQ. Big difference between Safari and Dwan. Dwan calls the JT of clubs too in one try.
1:30 is the best part, after a lot of trouble Laak raises, chips fall down and go everywhere. The dealer looks at it the whole time, and then she says "It's a raise". That's just hilarious.
@exoticdanni he isn't comtemplating a call at all, he is clearly posturing, which poker players do sometimes when their bluff get reraised. watch high stakes poker some time and you'll hear gabe kaplan comment that a player is posturing when they clearly aren't going to make a call
I think this is a case of Laak being afraid of getting outplayed. He put in that huge bet in order to avoid being outplayed by Durr. He might have missed if he just called, but he had so many outs that it was almost worth it to just call, hit the board and get more money.
I always laugh at Phil Laak's pal Esfandiari....he never seems to win at poker. Is he a good player?

The problem I always have with these kind of hands when played the regular way is that my opponent will suspect I'm drawing and when a card comes on the turn that means I missed I'm gonna face a big bet and will be forced to fold. By keeping initiative, which Laak obviously does here, he's taking the play away and he'll win a small pot most of the time.

thats not a ridiculus rauise

good raise

the man has an OPEN ENDED STRAIGHT FLUSH DRAW, where is the ridiculousness in this raise?
gordthelord12 1 year ago
@gordthelord12 The pot was 14k, with a bet of 7k to call, Laak then raises to 87k... is this normal play to you?
mutzigmorzine 1 year ago
@mutzigmorzine with a straight flush draw, YES!!!! maybe no so much but a lot of chips would go in
gordthelord12 1 year ago
@gordthelord12 Of course the chips would go in, but if he makes it 30k more, then he's more likely to get a call.
mutzigmorzine 1 year ago
@gordthelord12 man look at the size of the raise.....
theman1819 1 year ago
@gordthelord12 Are you one of those internet donks that go all in with 10 5 just because they are suited?
jebussaves1 1 year ago
@jebussaves1 that depends, how many chips are already in the pot, what is my position, how are the other players acting, etc etc, your question im afraid cannot be answered
gordthelord12 1 year ago
@jebussaves1 how big is my stack? how short is the shortest? how big is the largest? that is a total irrellavent question when the man here has a straight flush draw plus lots of other outs
gordthelord12 1 year ago
announcer is wrong. Dudes very afraid to get it in there on a draw. Thats why he shipped 90k. NIT

if someone does please enlighten me
Filis87 1 year ago
@Filis87 I believe it is all a psychological game. Maybe he is trying to make it look like he is trying to bully the table. That raise is wayy to big for it to look like he has complete air. I dunno why I even bother guessing, this is wayyyyyy above my head.

What's the point of them mucking cards when their opponent can watch the video after and see what they got.
rsx123 1 year ago
@rsx123 youre obviously not a poker player.
chilloutsess 1 year ago
@chilloutsess Oh really? Why do you think I'm asking?
rsx123 1 year ago
@rsx123 they dont know what he has while they are playing
boylston1276 1 year ago
If he'd raised 32k more instead, this wouldn't be deemed a ridiculous raise
Th3Z0ne 1 year ago
he must be hollywooding, thats the only answer, it would be a very bad call
gix500 1 year ago
Lol its not in the video, but Dwan says there is 0 % chance Laak had QQ. Big difference between Safari and Dwan. Dwan calls the JT of clubs too in one try.

24% winning hand probably calls the 80k raise more?LOL

1:30 is the best part, after a lot of trouble Laak raises, chips fall down and go everywhere. The dealer looks at it the whole time, and then she says "It's a raise". That's just hilarious.

@exoticdanni he isn't comtemplating a call at all, he is clearly posturing, which poker players do sometimes when their bluff get reraised. watch high stakes poker some time and you'll hear gabe kaplan comment that a player is posturing when they clearly aren't going to make a call

Lol safari believes in QQ. Why would Laak call preflop and check out of position with QQ? What a donk - thats why he was big looser that game.

MrKama91 1 year ago
I think this is a case of Laak being afraid of getting outplayed. He put in that huge bet in order to avoid being outplayed by Durr. He might have missed if he just called, but he had so many outs that it was almost worth it to just call, hit the board and get more money.
Disney312 1 year ago
@Disney312 exactly he was afraid to face a raise on the turn or any uncertainty against durr with that had bein as it was
