  • Anyone know what kind of ride cymbal he's using?

  • @jfreshmusic1 sabian prototype, there's no way to get it

  • Ronald plays on Stanley Clarkes new album Kings Of Men. There are a couple of tracks on there where Ronald is simply untouchable. His fill-ins are so clean and fast it just wouldn't seem possible. Stanley really lets him do his thing. Worth a look.

  • Eat your heart out Buddy Rich wherever you are.

  • I watched him playing with jeff lorber, melvin davies at java jazz festival 2010 in Indonesia..so damn full of energy and chops..crazy..really spice things up. The drum heads are brand new and after he played left really deep marks on it. Awesome drummer.

  • he has the skills/energy for sure.

  • sadly he killed the vibe at the start of the new tune... a fat groove would have been so tasteful :/thats what happens when you only focus on chops kids. great performance though

  • @Richiethedrummer1 honestely he didnt kill the start of it, its just how he felt he should play it, we all have different ways of playin tracks.. and trust me he didnt only focus on chops, its just how he wanted to play

  • every time he hits that snare i feel like im being slapped across my face. BACK HAND!

  • Sign me up for lessons!

  • 2.50 - 2.58 is the best thing he does in this whole video. Just so nice!!!

  • And only after an hour of watching this, I only got the sitting part down...I have a long ways to go!

  • wish i could hear all those awesome ghost notes he is playing!!!!! :(

  • Reason number two why I get up in the morning . Reason one Is to practice my skills

  • There is not a note, that he is playing softly. No expresion!

  • @MrMickel10 Because the song has no dynamics to it....also listen to him play with Stanley Clarke,Kenny Garrett or Marcus Miller he's a very very dynamic drummer. Also what do you call those eighth note ghost notes? Yeah he knows his dynamics.

  • @MrMickel if I'm not mistaken his solo starting at 3:31....what do you call that? Dynamics if I'm not mistaken...

  • @MrMickel10 he's playing ghost notes, you just can't hear them.

  • I prefer swing over funk.

  • @Easleytee He can swing quite hard...Like I told @MrMickel10 listen to his stuff with Kenny Garrett

  • His groove, and time feel (no matter WHAT the embellishment/note rate of fill etc) is just so damn insistent. I'm a straight up fan boy for this cat. ;-)

  • This just gives me the urge to go back to church.

  • Wow. This guy is for real!!! Awesome!!!

  • Watching the part from 5:00 to 6:00 I feel the muscles in my arms tense up, even though I'm not a drummer! I'm a guitarist, but man, I'd love to play drums like that!

  • 6:47 yes! so good, he's just causing absolute chaos here, what an incredible drummer!

  • Saw him last night with Stanley Clarke. This guy just kills it and he is very entertaining.

  • Please join the mars volta Ron!!!!!

  • @pdrums777 check out deatoni parks

  • Saw him last night gigging with Kenny Garrett. He was on fire.

  • sounds pretty fusion/gospel-esque. Was he trained by gospel drummers?

  • @Xolin11 No he was bought up by his father,Will Kennedy of the Yellow Jackets and Marvin Smitty Smith just to name a few.

But he did play drums in church.

  • imagine ronald bruner vs aaron spears

    that would be awesome

  • Sweet as a nut...cracking wee fill at 1.25 to1.33...fantastic...was lucky enough to see him playing in Kenny Garrett's band at Iridium, NY. Had no idea who he was but was blown away - sounds corny I know but you just knew you were watching someone special.

  • Does he still use Sabian, because I can't find him on their site... He's on the Zildjian site actually. Did he recently change or something.

  • @TheQuigonjohn Yeah he switched back to Zildjian not too long ago...

  • sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant.you can hear some Stewart Copeland in there.

  • I have this vid on my iPod ... What is he playing along to?

  • @blackjacket51 How?

  • nice!

  • The drum key stood on the snare still THE WHOLE TIME! What a key!?

  • YOUR favorite comedian would not be funny if he or she's DELIVERY was the same as every other comics! There are probably kids or grown adults who may play and sound just like Ronald, but the reason you may not ever hear about this awesome people, is because their DELIVERY is not yet PERSONAL. This dude just digs in DIFFERENTLY, his DELIVERY is different!!! They say "Nothings New Under The Sun" but the way he grooves, and how he sticks his neck out with his "lick combo's" is pretty effin NEW 2 me

  • @ntrakit6 AMEN!

  • check out those ghost notes!!!

  • still better tony royster jr.

  • actually 5:00 to 6:00 reminds me a lot of Vinnie Colaiuta's playing. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't one of RB's influences.

  • @rockin982 he is lol

  • That's it. I'm buying a cardigan.

  • @inimicalODDITY hahahaha good one!!

  • @inimicalODDITY Best comment I have ever seen

  • 4:29 30 is the QUICKEST BLAST BEATS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME!!! lol

  • Lol @ Vanjal & 22pharaoh & whole youtube.com- critics. All I got 2 say.

  • See more on SoulDrummers . com

  • @fnkdrmmr REALLY?

  • @ntrakit6 Yes. Really.

  • Oh why oh why! I had to give this guy one more change but no... I have done other stupid things in my life, like hitting myself in the nuts or swallowing my own tongue but this beats them all and everything I'll ever do. This was third video of this guy and the 10 minutes that him cost me is something I'll try to get back the rest of my life. And even that is much smarted usage of time than this was! HE'S ALMOST AVERAGE DRUMMER!!!

  • Ronald you are OFF THE CHAIN Brother

Love to see Ronald & Dennis Trade Off !!

Groove, Soul, Funk, Chops & Sausages !!

  • its like the groove vinnie does at zyldjian day in NY

  • This is RETARDED. This guy wouldn't last for a 4 tacts in Motley Crue , AC/DC or ZZ Top song. He should take some classes with Tommy Lee to stop making noise and start playing drums.

He is just skilled in this boring experimental shit but that's not what music is all about. It's NOT about technique ia about feel which obviously is something this guy didn't hear about.

  • @Vanjal Did you watch the video? He was grooving for the majority of the first 3 minutes

  • @SlavesOfNil YES dude I watched and NO he didn't groove because he doesn't know. As a musician, and a producer I played drums as well. met a LOT of awesome drummers and I think this guy will grow up and start playing music one day with real people not video beam. He played very unsecure and that's where his speeding up and playing all parts of the drum set came in. In the beggining. He is in rush and he doesn't know what to do if he's not playing fast still totally imprecise.

  • @Vanjal RIGHT... chops withOUT musical context.

  • @ghilliemaster Glad someone understood :-)

  • @Vanjal He plays for Stanley Clarke (he's mostly pocket on the new album but goes wild on 2 tracks) and look for the clip of him playing "Take the A Train" With George Duke and Chaka Khan...He grooves

It's just since he's in a room full of drummers that's expecting him to go crazy over a track....he grooved a bit and delivered.....lol

I'm sure if he invited Stanley,Kenny Garrett or Geoge Duke to play with him he would've kept the pocket better.

  • @Vanjal Amen!

  • @Vanjal You cannot have feel without technique, tbh, I think your a little envious of Jr. and "He should take some classes with Tommy Lee to stop making noise and start playing drums". is the funniest thing I have ever heard.

  • @Vanjal Listen. ZZ Top & ACDC are good but im sure Ron studied and master that style when he was little kid. He is studying better, more complex and challenging music now. And he did groove for the FIRST THREE FREAKIN' MINUTES!!! I give Ron props. Anyone who hates on him only wishes they had his chops.

  • @Vanjal To Compare Ronald to any of the bands or drummers you mentioned is obscene. Normally I would say to each his own, but not on this one. As of right now this guy is the deal, easily in the top 10 drummers in the world. An elite player. The first half was a sweet groove, and after that tasty transition it was basically a show of style, speed, power, and overall chops. There's actually no-one that plays like Ronald which makes it all the better. Tommy Lee, give me a break. A Producer?

  • @Vanjal good job letting the world know how you have no clue whatsoever of what is REAL MUSIC.

oh and don't mind responding to this, I have absolutely no desire at all of speaking with such an idiot person.

  • he is the best drummer in the whole universe ,,,,that beat is so freakining awesome hahaaha.....but the fact is im a great liar

  • Saw Him in Telluride with Stanley Clarke and Hiromi .....MIND BLOWING......There was more music packed into this hour and a half set than should be possible. My head literally hurt from trying to process what I saw and heard and I'm a music junky. I see 50 to 100 shows a year. For sure the fastest human I've ever witnessed and the beat is undeniable. Funky and savage.. I thought he was going to knock the kit over on more than three seperate occasions.

  • Jesus chriiist. I also saw this guy at the newport jazz fest yesterday with Botti's band and all I gotta say is.. WELL.. i quit hahaha

  • Saw and met him last night! What an absolue killer band, and I ain't kiddin!! If you see that the Stanley Clarke Band is playing near you, you'll be glad you go see them (check out Stanley's website for dates- they're on tour right now). It's mostly hard fusion, and along with Ronald and Stanley of course, is the phenomenal Hiromi and great Ruslan Sirota! A REAL "supergroup"!! In the REAL sense of the word!

  • Better than Stewart Copeland.

  • @Antiks72

Better? At what? Writing parts to songs like "King of Pain" , or "Message in a Bottle" or "Walking on the Moon".

Bruner has obvious super human technical facility, but that just means he possesses technique, not really "better" than Stewart.... whatever "better" means to you.

  • @larkydozer exacly.

  • but the name of the tune?

  • @vedalken It's one of his original tunes....well another version of his song "Take the time"

  • Nice! He'll be playing with two killer super musicians, Stanely Clarke and Hiromi in a couple of weeks here in Toronto. I was hoping they'll be doing some hard fusion and not just the laid back stuff- I have a feeling they will!

  • lol jazz blastbeat @5:21

  • Litle Ronnie haha- more than good- he's briliant

  • I wanna see this guy shred with the Dillinger Escape Plan.

I immediately thought DEP when i heard that background jazz riff

  • @BreakinGuitarz33 dude, if u want good prog metal, check out between the buried and me, cynic, scale the summit, and protest the hero....dillinger is good, they're just way too unorganized...it all becomes noise after a while

  • I was there.... Ronald's an amazing drummer.... Love his relaxed style....

  • :30- :35 amazinggg.

  • holy cow... nice fill=O

  • ron ruuulezzz

  • average

  • wow just when I thought I was fairly decent.

  • Some people is just born and made to drum...This is one of those guys!

    Holy cow this is impressive!!

  • @sirus80, great stuff. What electronic equipment is he using to play sampling? Love this stuff man!

  • anybody know where i can find his "best vid" on youtube?

  • look at his facial expression at 6:05. he's all excited that he's finished his solo but u cant really feel it because he ddnt go back 2 the ride...so nobody clapped lol

  • watch 2:42 his left hand, very smooch and not to fancy

  • this man have 4 legs and 6 arms - nice

  • how can so many great noises come from cylindrical peices of wood and chunks of metal? it's amazing

  • haha, awesome analogy!

  • WTF amazing :D

  • THATS ME SCEAMIN LOL no really it is

  • my new hero

  • This guy is sooooo good, That I find him offensive

  • The whole solo is obscene but 5:00 to 6:00 is nothing short of incredible. The first time I watched this video I was literally in shock. I've lost track of how many times I've played it back.

  • @SterlingRe for me it was 5:00 to 7:08

  • Shit! Im Amazed! did yall see that fill at 127-134 OMFG!! im a drummer and he makes me wanna go and practice all day!

  • this guy is a machine. i play bass & he makes me wanna go out and buy a drum set. those fills @ 1:25 - 1:35 are nucking futts.

  • hmmm is that a real song hes playing? its aweosme i need to get that

  • @optimusthrice That's one of Ronalds original songs called "Take the Time"

    It's gonna be out soon.......

  • No Prob's fam.....I don't mind helping a fellow musician out :)

  • this track is "take the time"'s bastard cousin lol

  • You know who wrote that tune ?

  • @FlowJazz ronald and I put this together a day before this show (lovingly borrowing a section from a great 'Other' tune we grew up listening to)

  • Thanks dude ! By the way, I think it's you playing on the other Bruner Bros videos, you're amazing bro ! And I think I saw you on lyric café with mike phillips once...that was dope. Anyway that's awesome, thank you !

  • @FlowJazz thank u

  • @sirus80 can u PLEASE send me this track?? i would love to shed to this!

  • @lilvicfirth Ronald has it somewhere, I really don't have it. Besides, I co-wrote it but sharing it would have to be His call, since its a track he professionally uses.

  • @SIRUS80 i need to get this song too :p

  • @SIRUS80 Please let me know when the Bruner Bros. are gonna put out the album......

  • he makes it seem so easy!

  • Fantastic

  • 6:34-7:00 WOW

  • what a ability and control!

  • Oh wow

  • Comment removed

  • Yes he uses double pedal but most of the time he uses a single pedal.....Look for the clip of him at the Memphis Drumshop.....

  • @the1STarts check him out with stanley clarke - song 'bad asses' Ronald can really play some double bass. Crazy jazz drummer too - check him at the zildjian drummers lounge.

  • The whole "Toys Of men" album IS SICKENING!!!!

Ron did a hell of a job on that album

  • 1:56-2:00 What a beast. He keeps that snare going throughout the entire fill.

  • No doubt. There are so many things about this sol

  • Cut off my own reply. Just meant to agree and say the skill he uses to simultaneously crush the snare and high hats 5/6 times together is sweet. Maybe not super difficult, but rarely seen and not like that. Also love the way he powers through the cymbals with the double bass going.

  • 3:17...OMFG! Damn....OH my lord.......YES!

  • SterlingRe, i agree with you 100%!!!!! i dont have the words to describe his playing...phenomenal? ridiculous? amazing? bruner = god? ;)

  • I've got a list of all time greats I've been listening to for 30 years. Listened to so many solos/extended fill-ins I've lost track of them all. I've never heard a solo I've enjoyed more. It's in my top 10 only because I'm sure I must be forgetting some I liked more. No-one plays like this and that's what makes it so insane. Such an impressive display of how great a kit can sound when used creatively. He's smiling back there, like here we go boys, it's about to get crazy. Inhuman

  • love the lick at 4:50

  • i love this song(instu. version of ron's song 'take the time')

  • omg 1:26-1:33 beast just beast

  • Excellent................

  • Holy crap!!! This guy can play the woodchipper(drum kit)

Man, when I see stuff like this it makes me want to play my kit so bad, but it's 11pm and the kids are asleep... guess I need to get an electric kit for jammin' when the family is asleep.

    This guy has some chops!

  • @cyberbri68 i've got a wife and kids too dog so i feel ya on that one, which is why i got a practice pad kit by DW. i can shred as late as i want.

  • @cyberi68: Same here. Luckily I have an electric kit. :P

  • 1:27to1:32 cant stop it not aaron spears tony royster hot shit

  • This guy rocks!!! Hands down!!

  • i could totally see this guy playing with the marz volta.

  • amen!

i love pridgen.. but honestly.. ronald bruner is the best drummer out there right now (IMHO) (offcourse all the legends are still there.. colaiuta chambers etc..)

  • @winnerbaby44 come on now. thats what i'm talkin about. someone who's not afraid to say what everyones thinking. i love pridgen and royster but ron is head and shoulder's above those cats. if not only for his sheer vocabulary and i won't even talk about chops. as bozzio stated,"he writes good music and i get to see him do things no other human can do".

  • @garyteasing if that happened peoples heads would explode starting with mine.

  • Ron played for Suicidal Tendencies in his earlier years....I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas P. couldn't make a gig and he called Ron up to fill in for him......

  • the lick at 20-23 omg he is a beast

  • I love that snare...

  • ANIMALLLL....

  • he anit no chris coleman though

  • no... he is much better belive me

  • He's the drummer on Stanley Clarkes new CD. He's a legend who could play with virtually anyone he wants. His playing within the structure of a group arrangement is every bit as good as this solo is obscene. The flamboyance with the arms up high may be a little over the top, but there are moments of greatness in this solo . As far as the beat goes, he's winding down towards the middle of this solo only to prepare for a frenzied finish. 5:00 to 6:00 minutes should temper the doubters.

  • This dude is insane. I'd love to see him and Barry Alexander go at it.

  • I love this guys style and everything, but when the music slowed down he was still going fast. It felt so uneven in the middle, but other then that he is freaking awesome.

  • he's cool !! and i saw a vid. of him as a 14 year old boy when he won a drum contest....great

  • in my opinion a drummer can be judged in the following ways.....

taste- what he plays and how he plays it and when he does so

tempo- does he have a steady time

technique- is he just flamboyant or does he have rudimental substance

a prime example of this is my fav drummer George McCurdy

  • man.. George McCurdy just bends time any way he wants.. lots of chris dave in his playing too..

  • Spanky! That dude is a frickin beast! Spanky has some of the beast offtime patterns I've ever seen or heard...Ronald is more a power drummer though....it's hard to compare the two....both good at what they do. Ronald is on the flashy side though...for goodness sake he was backing major rock bands in his teens! haha

  • Spanky aint no where near Ronald B, Thomas P, and cats like that. Spanky is a beast but no where near these cats.

  • I wasn't comparing them at all. that's why I said it's hard...denoting a real musician would never do so.

  • cmon man.. ron and thomas are beast but spanky is a beast too.. can you imagine his offbeat patterns in some progressive band like thomas with the mars volta? how sick would that be? they are very different.. so different you cant even compare!

  • Really...I have shredded with Spank several of times. He is a beast I never discredited him, never. He's just not a Bruner, Spears, or Pridgen; And these are all African Americans Drummers, I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION THE OTHER BEAST WHO ARE NOT BLACK! These guys are animals on skins. And you should "Try" to compare Spank to Chris Dave, Oops No comparison, because Spanky is off spring from CDD. They are different, all are great musicians, some are just better which in life that's how it is...

  • well it might be a matter of personal taste after all.. spanky took alot of his playinf from chris dave,, no doubt.. chris dave originated his style.. and now everydoby is learning and emulating him.. theres some stuff spanky plays that i dont think pridgen or spears could play.. (at least without practicing) and the opposite also happens..

in any case we agree that they are all great musicians and thats all that matters =) lol

  • You can place negatives all you want but real drummers know that I am telling the truth! I never said he wasn't sick just not a Bruner or Pridgen. Look up their shed over seas and you too will witness!!!!
