Running the ball is all good but he spends way too long on the ball in the pocket. He wouldn't get that much time in the pocket in the NFL! But he won't be as good as young because young was quicker at finding a receiver or choosing to run. Pryor takes aged then decides to run.
@langerclanger That's cause all Young knew how to do was zone-read. If there was nobody open on the first read, Young ran. You can't do that in the NFL and that's why Young won't ever be a starter again.
@Jaygenius yeah i agree, thats the same thing with Cam Newton... one read, if his guy isnt open, hes off and running! Young hasn't really made the step up to giving it to anyone but his first read.
The pistol is a half way cut off shotgun formation, with the halfback directly behind the QB, there is no wild cat in the pistol formation. Wild cat is putting a certain position where they shouldn't be. (Exe) Ronnie Brown: QB, Ricky Williams: WR, and Chad Pennington: HB
that last 20 yd run, wow. he makes it look like a five yard jog. So poised and easy going but that covered the entire red zone in one play. AND he is a freshman! look out.
sure its only YSU... but its good to see he's confident, and not second guessing his abilities.... he can only move up from here (and YSU is still a step above the HS kids he's used to playing.... baby steps)
Ah the good old days when BTN still had Thom Brenneman calling games

whats the dif between the pistol form and the wildcat?
dicidec 3 years ago
The runningback is aligned behind the quarterback in the Pistol. The quarterback receives the snap 3-5 yards behind the Line of SCrimmage.
It's a cool little wrinkle that a lot of schools mess around with. LSU, OSU, and Missouri have some Pistol in their O. Nevada only runs Pistol.
