  • Thank you so much for this video, breaking it down into 3 parts really makes it so much easier and really encourages you to keep going once you get down one part, much appreciated, ps. Your sick at guitar my friend

  • Does having a scalped fret board like urs help?

  • I needa upload a vid

  • 1:18 HOLY FUCK GIANT GUITAR!!!

  • Also, I suggest using a metronome to start off.

  • Everyone who is saying that they will never get sweep picking down, you never will if you think like that. You have to understand that sweep picking takes some time to learn. You need to start out really slow. It's very repetitive and boring, but once you get the basics, mess around with that a little. Only THEN do you speed it up. You will get it with time and practice! Even if you only practice sweep picking maybe 10 minutes each day, you will notice improvement. Don't worry, you'll get it.

  • the only sweeping ill be doing is janitorial !!! iam a loser at this ,,, how in the hell do you find the time to practice this ?its like you need to be in the basement of your parents house paying nothing ,, just practicing guitar,,thanx mom !! can i have a grilled cheese please!

  • holy shit! i got stoned and when the camera zoomed in, i thought he had really huge hands and guitar. then i realized i was stoned.

  • im a girl. i can sweep pick. im single.

  • I started feeling good about myself...then he started showing off lol

  • Thumbs up if you keep fucking playing the note on the 15 fret e string instead of the 12 while practicing this.

  • This guy is unbelievable!! Best sweep teaching video on the internet!

  • the only good sweep picking video on youtube. Thx Man. But still this is hellish difficult...especially the synchronisation. On low speed levels it is working fine for me. But on higher levels i mess it completely up. Is this just a matter of more practicing and playing the pattern over and over again ? My second question is, how do i mute effectively.. I have still ( in low tempi) noises of other strings , because i hammer on / pull off and strings ring, that i dont want to. Thx

  • i still dont understand this and i wont ever undertand how to do this, thats how i feel about it

  • hehehehe he said g string :D

  • i think this is the same guy that taught me how to tap on guitar :P

  • I wish i had this kind of tutorials when i first started sweeping. Oh man, i was so frustrated that i picked up the playing several times before i finally got it sort of right. This is a great way to learn, and another great tip is to practice without sound. While watching tv, play the same pattern over and over. That way youre teaching the hands what your brain already knows, and sync will be much easier. And of course, you prevent throwing up from the same nightmare pattern over and over :-)

  • This is hilarious!.. well at the start

  • 6:05 ....... WTF

  • very helpfull!

  • What di you think of my result of your lesson?? It's on my youtube page =) and btw, what should I do so I don't get string noisee??

  • Thanks man!! You teach really well, I've been trying to learn sweep picking for a while and no one explained the right hand so much, but you nailed it!! Because of you, I now feel ready to take my guitar playing to a new level!!

  • hahahhhahaha xD

  • nice guitar

  • thanks, very much, for your video; it was very helpful. prost!

  • great intro

  • press one for peenie weenie

  • So much better than that tard in the other video going "ok play this. Now play it up to tempo."

  • small pennii wennii

  • dude i was having the same dream months ago

  • @medic2009guy Im still having it.....

  • Can you upload a lesson on the very first sweeping riff you play in the beginning of the video? It's same exact riff that I play all the time, except in a sweeping form instead of tapping.

  • Thanks man,great lesson.

  • wow thanks man gr8 video, started from scratch with ur video!! awesome

  • i can't even really just "pick" haha but when i am ready for sweep picking or whenever i pick up my guitar again and it comes to mind.. i'll be sure to check back. you're very thorough, the video is edited well... and as cheesy as the video is ... that's my life haha. thanks for the lesson.

  • Great video. I've watched others and yours is probably the best. Thanks

  • Nice video dude!

    thanks for sharing! :)

  • oh thx for the video that you post . I learned that my picking style is wrong . i dint rest the pick . hahaha . Alright thx . btw , anyone know where to download the beat sound ? which u can set the tempo , then u play along with the tempo . Any idea anyone ?

  • You don't need to use the same picking excersize with the left hand excersize. they dont work together.

  • how long does it take to get to the faster speeds?

  • 7:48 Inspire me to throw my guitar out the window...

  • I'm just starting to learn this. I have some pretty good speed with my left hand, and I can strum the strings fine, but I can't seem to put it together haha. I guess it takes a lot of practice to get them in sync

  • lol. nice.

  • I was having trouble with the damn g string ringing no matter how light I hit the sonofabitch so I kinda fixed it by adding an extra note to hammer on to that string. Turned out it was playing openly because I was strumming the g string twice, once up and another down, without muting it so that extra hammer on fixed that. If I just didn't strum it a second time I would have had no issue. Of course I could always just mute it instead but I like the extra note.

  • @superfun64 Er just skip that second strum

  • @boshizzel He meant take the chords and play them as sweeping arpeggios. He wasn't playing bar chords.

  • I did that on acoustic but without the pull off since it doesn't make any sound on my acoustic x)

  • hey i have a quiestion, my problem is that i cant mute the strings that well when doing the second exercise, i always get a ring, any tips?

  • ok iv'e been doing this exercise for about a week now and i can do this at 180bpm is this good or what because i practice like 2-3 hours a day

and i can also change it up like go up and down the fretboard and do you any of you know any 4string sweeps i can practice?...answers would be appreciated

  • i need help, i do i stop the natural harmonic from being played every time i play something after i play 12fret e string even when muting the notes.

  • TABS FOR THE AWESOME SWEEPING AT

0:18??? i could probly play it just dont know how the notes = ( please???

  • @guitarwyly the e Minor, D major and i think C major arpeggios are what he plays

  • This sure inspired me and really helped. Thanks.

  • 1:07 to skip all that bull shit

  • @saprando are you kidding me? the intro was fucking amazing!

  • B. Obama?:O

guitar sweep - YES WE CAN :D

  • Awesome lesson. When I try playing it I get to the first E, hammer on the G, pull off to E again and then have a hissy fit cause I stuffed it :P

  • good lesson and all but sweeping all those other random licks really fast doesn't really help clarify or help at all, its just confusing. i do thank you though, this is the most helpful video ive seen on sweep picking in a long while!

  • Great lesson mate:) very informative. I'll look forward for more lessons!

  • why is this 'tour' sweeping?

  • That evil sounding guy sounds like Devin Townsend!!!!

  • how do you mute the strings while sweep picking?

  • I second EplaySerP's question. How exactly do I mute the G string's excess noise? It's bloody annoying! When my finger lifts from it the open G note rings noisily or an unwanted natural harmonic - help!

  • When I looked at this I wasn't even shore what It was. Now I can actually do the exercise you showed us :) Great lesson

  • HAH G string

  • que hombre

  • wat a big irony he talks soo sloww BUT does sweep picking soo fast Lol

  • aa jaja nice

  • Very nice video, thank you!

  • i thought i was tripping out the first part of that vid. That voice will forever haunt me

  • 4:14 That's what she said...

  • @PapaOkinawa 0:51 That's what she said to you.

  • I need to try this harder. I've been playing guitar for like four and a half years. I can improvise no problem, play by ear, I know a couple of shred licks and can do all kinds of cool shit but I'VE NEVER managed to get sweeping down. The most I can do is go one way or play arpegios but not as a sweep

  • I do this, but instead of pulling off on 15, I pick it, just quicker than the rest if the sweep. I can still do it fast so is it still wrong to do this?

  • Thanks pal - this is great - love the humour at the start as well - dont't be afraid - it's only SWEEP PICKING dun dun durrrrrrrr. Great vid Cheers S.P.

  • at 1:26 i fken laughed cus i thought he didnt zoom ino his hands and i thought they were big xD

  • @KristoferDahl Okay Master I will practice till my fingers broken and my head explodes! And after that I will post a Video! You really give me power to learn guitar! not as the other teachers who show 2 minutes high speed picking and at the end buy our Dvd for only 99,99 $ ! ^^

  • When you are sweeping at full speed, after you pull off of the high E, are you picking the C note on the B string or are you hammering on it??

  • @Merge1 up to speed I might actually just do hammer-ons there, good observation

  • @KristoferDahl hey great video, its really helping me understand sweeping more, im sure it wont be long before i can do it well with ur vids, i have a question thou does it matter what type of pick i use? i like a pick thats not too hard, not to soft for most of my playing, is it just personal preference or woud you say there is certain type of pick that makes it easier? Anyone who reads this and and has input its greatly appreciated.

  • @Merge1 Hey Man one thing about Sweeping Think LAZZZZZZY With Both Hands especially your Picking Hand because if you Tighten up you just Slow your self down the More Loose and relaxed you are the Better your chances of getting the Sweeps sounding like Sweeps. Good Luck!

  • hammer on, hammer on, hammer on, pool off!!! hammer on...

  • geneal !! domine todo en 10minutos eres bueno hermano :) !!! porfin puedo hacer sweep sin problemas

  • Comment removed

  • dude ur fucking awesome!

thanks for showin me this man

  • this may be a really noobish question but how did you get the guitar to sound out so loud at 6.05 without picking?

  • @rileyguitarist It's called a hammer on, it's when you just hit the strings without picking. try it. turn your'e amp up and use some distortion, and it should work.

  • Thank you so much for this video. It helped me out a lot. The hardest thing for me was combining the left and right hand movements. I can't thank you enough. Great video.

  • hii, I try to learn how to play Pray For Plagues from Bring Me The Horizon but I don't know what technique they use, they pick the lowest string almost everytime after they picked a higher string, It goes pretty fast and I don't know the technique I need to use to pick them so fast, could you maybe check the song out for me and tell me what technique they use so I can learn that technique? Thank you

  • peeny weeny xD

  • Thanks so much!!! REALLY THANKS!!!!

  • thanx ma, really, thanx bro

  • Very great lesson, but its hard to learn it on one scale

  • Honestly the best sweep picking lesson on YouTube. This dude is the man.

  • This Guy Is Great I ve Been Doing His Sweep technique From the Video for 3 months. and i can sweep now all thanks to him By the way If You read This nice Job And Will You Show me some 4 string sweep like give me the tabs for it?

  • that was the best lesson i ever ever had ! lol

  • how can i show u my vid response??

  • i learned tht in a month , i practice a hour or more (if i wanna play some songs i knw ) , and im not very fast, but im gonna practice more xP

  • He looks totally like a white Barack Obama in this vid.

  • I now do it for 7 months an half hour maybe more a day but my fingers are still too slow what do i do wrong ?

  • Dude you rock. Loved your work

  • Man, I simply couldn't resist subscribing after that! It was hilarious and showed me how do sweep! Thanks.

  • thank you guy...Now my sweep picking is better than before \M/

  • ozzy osbourne crazy train laugh lol

  • lmao at the beginning hahahaha

  • @Th3Shr3dd3r That gives me hope. :D

  • @MysteriousTuber Probably not a long time! :)

  • what if you play 4 hours each day? how long does it take?

  • 0;19 ......Jizzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • at 6:04 i said damn!!!!

  • on the second exercise, (left hand) is okay if while playing on acoustic, I don't get any sound?

  • Something tells me that you were playing pacman before you put together this video.

  • traducido parece q estuviera drogado definitivamente learn english

  • what amp settings do you use?

  • Yay! Chelsea Grin :D lol

  • You play amazing dude!

  • How many years have you been playing guitar?

  • Your one weird guy lol

  • When I try to do your exercise in the video, I get a lot of unwanted string noise from the g-string as I lift off from it and begin the sweep, and ideas on how to prevent that?

  • @EplaySerP This x 99

  • @EplaySerP Move you're hand down slightly with the sweep so it slightly mutes the string you're not playing. It works for me, but I'm no expert.

  • @mrnobodyouknow Alright, thank you for the reply

  • @EplaySerP I learnt from this guy and got the same thing so I used the lower palm of my right hand to mute the strings. I bring it across just after the pick goes across.

  • I'll try that, thank you

  • @EplaySerP

You could use a hair tie or something like that. Put it on the first fret. Than practise and practise and after some time remove the tie and of the noise is stioll there, practise it over and over and than it is away after some time, hope i could help.

  • Comment removed

  • Alright, thank you, I'll try that

  • @EplaySerP i get that too! have you found out how to prevent that yet??

  • @josepunkthrashdude A couple guys said to use your right hand to mute the string after hitting it, I haven't quite mastered that but it sort of works. Another person said to use a hair-tie and put on the 1st fret and just keep practicing and tae it off later and see if the noise is still emitting.

  • @EplaySerP hair bands work magic. i kid you not.

  • @EplaySerP As you move your right hand leaving the G string( im just assuming you're sweeping towards the higher strings) kinda slide your palm up so that side of your pinky or palm will mute the string and keep it from ringing. Going down, finger positioning is key. You should really only get that when going hella slow though. If you are dw about it too much.

  • @EplaySerP More practise ;p

  • @EplaySerP Put a wristband or something over the strings of your guitar near the nut on the neck. Gets rid of that excess noise!

  • @EplaySerP I use my palm to mute it. It works for me

  • now why couldn't all other guitar tutors have a sense of humor like kris

  • Nice, how much did you pay Justin Bieber to do that intro?

  • umm.. i never got there

  • great lesson dude :) BTW may i ask how ur going up i notice on the vid that when u pick the B string one the way back down with an up stroke alter and pick the G with a downstroke so from what im seeing ur doing the following D D D U (pull off) U D is that whats going on?

  • Dude, I could play a little faster by the end of this vid, thanks a lot man :D

  • lol on a "small peenie weenie"

  • @KristoferDahl is okay if i use my pinky when hitting the 15 fret instead of using my ring finger.

  • 6:05 amazing bro

  • how long shuld i practice this evryday

  • @dc08bfmv Give it 30 minutes per day and you will rock in 5 months. Give it one hour and maybe already i 2 months...who knows?

  • @KristoferDahl alrite thnks man

  • @KristoferDahl really? back when i was learnin this stuff, i practiced it for 2 hours a day and got it in 3 weeks, just sayin,

  • @KristoferDahl Oh, I was practicing for about 1,5 months and I though I never make it. But that means 4 more months until I can complain :)

By the way, is it ok, if I play 12 on e and G using pedal idea? I play G string with may finger tip and then bar it across higher strings.

  • @KristoferDahl i play guitar literally 7 hours a day so how long? :L

  • @KristoferDahl give it 8 hours after 12 years of playing guitar and you will rock after few days :)

  • @KristoferDahl if i practice 3 hours a day,will i be able to do it in a week ?

  • @KristoferDahl 4 hours. @~@

  • @KristoferDahl what if u give it like 4 hours a day? lol

  • @dc08bfmv or maybe you should practice 6 to 8 hours a day and in a few years maybe you'll be one of the new best guitarist of the future, maybe you'll have some skills that no other can have,or maybe you'll come up with something totally new =D emm haha at least I practice 6 to 8 hours a day and for it is going pretty damn well in music =D

  • Hello Kris! I'm now pretty clean with one finger per fret arpeggios, do you have any practicing tips for finger-rolling arpeggios?

  • @qwertyuiop46853 Probably not a good answer - but I try to avoid that by adapting my fingerings. It's just too hard to get a good tone out of finger-rolling..

  • @KristoferDahl I think the same, thanks!

  • @KristoferDahl So you completly avoid finger rolling and use seperate fingers on such riffs?? Have you ever had a problem learning a sweep due to this? I´m just asking because a friend of mine keeps telling me that there are a lot of sweeps which are impossible to play without the rolling thing.

  • @CobAAOff Yes some sweeps are much harder (but not impossible) that way. However tone is always better =)

  • @KristoferDahl Thanks for the quick response. So as long as it´s not impossible, i´m gonna keep using the seperate finger methode. Harder simply means more practicing, and more practicing is a fair trade for a better tone;)

    Great lesson/playing by the way.

  • Snyggt Steve Vai-vibrato du har! varför föredrar du det före vanligt vibrato?

  • @dahMusicDude I wouldn't say generally that I prefer the Vai vibrato - but I like it a lot and have probably been practicing it a bit before recording the video :)

  • @KristoferDahl är det någon direkt konstnärlig skillnad mellan vai-vibrtot och det vanliga? jag vet att det är snyggare än Yngwie-vibratot, som är groteskt överdrivet (som allting den svensken gör).

  • great video. I really liked seeing your method of breaking things down into parts. Great concept for learning 'how to practice'. Another practice tip I find useful for developing speed is to set a metronome at a tempo which you can play the excercise comfortably at, 10x in a row. Bump it up a few notches each time you get comfortable with the new tempo. Its a good way to keep yourself from trying to speed up too fast, and gives you a benchmark to track your progress.

  • @KristoferDahl hi man, what pick should i use? i have some jackson's 1mm,some ernie ball heavy,medium,light

  • Does the type of the strings influenciate the sweeping methods ?

Very slowly, I can play every single arpeggio perfectly, but when I go speedier, It makes a lot of noise, because the bigger strings ring alone, even if my hand tries to mute them... I don't understand what to do with my right hand. Because when I play sweeping only with my left hand (with the right hand muting all the strings at the top of the neck) it sounds perfectly...

Can you help me ? :s

  • which amp settings do you use to sweet picking?

  • Better than anybody on 'expert' village.

  • do you mute all the strings you arent playing on with your right hand, while sweeping?

  • @MacMaster1994 yes - although some of the muting is doen with the left hand

  • when you come back up to the G string do you pick it twice(upstroke and downstroke) or do you pick up on the G string and downstroke the B string

  • @michaelthemonster1 I don't pick twice on the g string - and you could do both ways you mentioned (but I think I do a downstroke when i return to the g string)

  • man, i thought you stole my video about me sleeping while having some nightmares xD btw dude you are a genius, THNX

  • what type of pick should i use??????

  • do you angle your pick or do you keep it horizontal?

  • @GiveMeSomeHeavyRiffs A veeery very slight angle

  • i made a video for some feedback from kristorerdahl but i kinda didn't post as response video :P... anyway think you could quickly take a look at it, it's not very long either
