Are all Dean guitars made in the US? I'd be curious to learn about the wood selection, drying, and quality control process used by Dean compared to, say, PRS.
@mrichman Not all Deans are made in the U.S. some Deans are made in korea,I have a Dean ML that's made in korea and the thing is very solid and my favorite one at that
@mrichman Not all Deans are made in the U.S. some Deans are made in korea,I have a Dean ML that's made in korea and the thing is very solid and my favorite of all the guitars that I have ever owned
I have a 1980 & a 1981 Dean Z (explorer) with flame tops & bindings. The current instruments don't come close. It's a shame, they made incredible instruments. Now 99% of what they sell is Chinese made instruments that they have the nerve to charge $1,000.00 for. What a shame.
@KevinFL Dude i got a Korean ML and the thing is the best guitar I've ever owned and i've owned over 23 guitars in my time as a guitarist sold and traded them all but i'll never get rid of that Korean ML, put it this way you can get ten models of the same exact guitar from any maker and not one of them will sound play or feel the same it's kinda like the luck of the draw, shit look at James Hetafield he wrote some of the best Metallica songs on a Gibson V knock off
I think some of the Japanese models are better. USA/Mexi Fender guitars tend to over route around the bridge pickup of a Jazz Bass on almost all models produced. The Japanese ones are much better on average.
Oh..I should add that the Edge has the crunch you hear in much more expensive basses. I doesn't sound far off from a usa Spector that costs 5 grand or so. No kiddin'. I'm pumped can ya tell!
I just bought a used 2007 Edge 6 string Dean bass...made in Korea. I'm assuming they use the same routing/machinery there as they do in the USA. The bass is SO badass! I'm very impressed with the thing. Thank you Dean!!
Not more than on a Gibson. If I look really closely to my Les Paul, I can see the the top of the body is like 3 pieces of maple glued against each other. The maple is then glued onto the mahonagy and the neck is glued to the body :D So it's not all that bad here :p
Thanks for answering! Yeah, I know. Actually, Gibsons and Fenders are not, by far, what they used to be. I wouldn't buy a Gibson Standard (whatever the model is) or higher end series, since in my opinion they're overpriced for what you get: too much glue :P.
However, we're watching a video of a Custom Shop factory. You know, I expected a bit more in terms of woodwork.... :)
Yeah I have nothing to do with Dean, I just uploaded the vid to Youtube :p I don't even have a Dean, but I hoped to see a bit more technology. As far as I can see, they glue wood together, shape it, paint it and put humbuckers in it that they don't even make themselves and there you have a $3000- 4000 guitar... No wonder the CEO drives a Lamborghini Murcielago...
Yeah! I think just the same. Not long time ago I saw the video of the Carvin factory, and I believe it matches the concept of a Custom Shop quite better.... You can see the quality of woodwork, painting, a craftswoman building custom pickups by hand.... You name it. I also have no Dean guitars, but I believe that a $4000 axe should be one-pieced, and feature everything you could dream of (maybe even jewelry :P). Whatever, thanks for posting the video! I've learnt some more stuff about Dean :).
My Gib Les Paul is in the $3000 range, but I mean... Totally different from this, the humbucker plates, bridge and stop tailpiece are gold plated :D and everything is super about it :)
dean is so heavy
