Interesting how most everyone with mad balisong skills seems to have the same knife -- the Benchmade 42. I'm wondering if practicing with my $20 cheapie is actually of more benefit than harm to my developing good bali skills. Any opinions? Will practicing with a cheap bali make me better (as in like when ppl say if u can drive in these bad roads u can drive anywhere) or will it actually make me worse at balisong use in general?

@MrBright5ide Nah, doesn't really matter, just as long as it doesn't fall apart and ends up hurting you or someone else, or damaging something etc. If you learn moves on one balisong, there will just be a period where you have to get use to a different balisong's weight and size. Oh, and Benchmade does not make the model 42s anymore, but they started making the model 51. As for cheap balisongs, they prob just have more wobble or 'blade play', and its easy to get use to a quality knife.

I noticed that Heath (at the beginning) seemed to like aerial tricks to break off combos and start a new while, while I didn't see jessica use many aerial tricks. If they were to go into competition together, they both would at least place, if not get first place. Great video guys! Love the fluid motion of each manipulation. I'm still learning the advanced tricks with my balisong, but you two have definitely brought the ambition out again. Great vid!

The twirl moves are fast in general anyway. I still am trying to master those. I allways end up putting way too much torque into them and my blade goes flying like a helicopter.hehe

@holdondeath Actually you are wrong. Flipping is just for show. It doesn't mean you have actual fighting skill with a knife. In RL if someone started flipping in front of me I would just whip out my knife and stab them while they were showing off. Fights over that fast. What they do in the vid is impressive though. But it's only for flashyness. None of those moves are practical in a fight. Same goes for any flashy fighting junk, you don't want to go for a jumping spin kick in a real fight....

Trust me you wouldn't want to start flipping a bali around if you are confronted. If the perp. is smart he'll just either kick, stab, or shoot you while you are being an idiot flipping a knife around.
