  • dude!.....i want to thank you sooooooo much for this fix...this was mind-boggling me for months now

  • it works as a miracle :x thank you

  • I did this and it worked! But then I upgraded to windows 7, and it happened again so I did this and it just keeps showing up again

  • OMG!!! You saved my life, haha! This damn thing wouldnt disapear from the middle of my screen!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

  • Great job, thanks for this video. Saved my bacon. Last Sony laptop I buy.

  • i never buy notebooks, i get them free. recently received some sz series. what a piece of crap! there's no driver support for win7 32 or 64. i have to fish for drivers on the web using hardware id's. not sure what i just installed in one of these POS SORNY. now get this stupid pop-up. i think it was one of acpi drivers i installed. i'll never pay for any SONY product, especially their notebooks. FUCK SONY for making me go thru this! built quality is the worst compared to other brands i own.

  • HP are *NOT* worse than sony. Geez. Get your facts right. Sony is the shittiest computer I have EVER worked with, and I have worked with a lot of computers. The easiest computer I've dealt with is an HP nx6120.

  • @tangocolt02 i've serviced some SONY desktops, never owned one myself. absolute crap. owned early pentium m model notebook and now a bunch of sz series. THE WORST!!!! compared to HP, ASUS, TOSHIBA, IBM/lenovo. never had so much trouble with built quality, drivers. arggghhhh i want to scream and dump these sony notebooks. SONY = SHIT!!! I CONFIRM!

  • @GarbageState Only reason i own one is I got given one with a damaged power jack. Turned out it only needed the wire resoldered. I would NEVER buy a piece of shit like this. It does fine for checking internet I guess but misses a lot of functionality.

  • Thanks for the video -- I haven't run into anything so annoying in YEARS. But thanks moreso for the information with it -- I was able to restore full functionality to *all* hotkeys with a fresh install of W7 Ult on VPCF13PFX using your steps, though some bundles are differently titled or contained more than one application of those in your steps.

I went Firmware Parser + FP Update, then Shared Library, then Notebook Utilities (which included Event Service + Control Centre), now all working!

  • This is great video save my ass. Fuck Sony.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Thanks. That was seriously becoming frustrating... LOL.

  • hey, dude... THANK YOU!

  • Why in the name of any god would a company create software that rendered their own hardware useless? I have never seen anything so stupid in my life. If I had known this would happen, I would not have bought this piece of trash. Good thing Best Buy has a 14 day return policy. I'll have owned this loss for less than 14 HOURS before it goes back to the idiot that sold it to me. Hopefully he'll throw it in the garbage where it belongs.

  • @michaeldaw Sony sometimes make stupid decisions like that, however the internal quality of the notebooks are a little bit better than the rest. Of course without taking into account the poor finishing and paintjob of the outside plastics that became scratched just by looking at it. Anyways, i sold the computer on the video last week. It was like 3 years of good service and no faults at all. Saving the battery that failed after the 1st year and i didn't use it at all.

  • thanks. it work perfectly and saved me a lot of time :)

  • Helllp! My battery won't charge past 80% and a forum told me to install the battery checker. But then I get this message. So I have uninstalled the checker but have the not charging issue again. Can anyone help me I'm about to throw this vaio out the window?

  • Thanks alot! You're a life safer!

  • Thank you for this video and for starting this thread!!!!! Lots of problems with my VAIO after reformatting :S

I actually used ashjcam's method which works too:

"The simplest way to disable it happening is to run msconfig from start/run (WIN+R) and go to the startup tab. In there you'll see the ISBUtil shortcut. Just uncheck the box and save your changes. You'll be asked to restart, and that's it. Stupid Sony!!!"

  • Thanks a lot, it worked fine for me!

  • Windows Mobility Center can adjust your brightness on Windows 7.

  • How to repair the FN key on keyboard? Sometimes if I want to change the brightness, I use Windows Mobility center to change di brightness.

  • @Sudassana05

Windows Vista/7 ONLY: Install Firmwre extension parser driver, then apply any update for the firmware extension parser, then install sony shared DLL, then vaio event service and sony Setting utilities series then sony notebook utilities, then sony notebook control, then vaio control center. After that, all the FN keys will work.

  • thank you, SO much

  • Is this a permanent solution or do we have to do that every time we turn on the computer? Thanks anyway :)

  • hey man i cant thank you enough for this but im having another issue maybe u can help me with my vaio will not on unless i have the charger plugged in and as soon as i take it out the laptop instantly shuts down :( please help me if you can im even willing to pay a little bit :'(

  • thanks a lot! ^^

  • got rid of the error message, but how did you solve the issue with the FN+Bright up issue?

  • @jesushomie There's a "Backlight" app somewhere on the net that works with XP, the only workaround i know off. It enables the brightness control by pressing WIN + F6/F7.

On windows 7/vista the brightness works out of the box but you can't turn it all the way down because the backlight goes completely off and can't be turned on again. You have turn the bright up and close and reopen the screen to restore.

  • @Zim0256 help me!!..."consider replacing your battery"then it says "There is a problem with your battery so,your cmputer might be shut down suddenly"....but my battery is in good condition...HELP ME PLS...!!pls pls pls...its annoying at the battery icon

  • YES! YES! I bought a sony vaio Y series (the ones with AMD e-350) and that damn screen started to appear when i upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and installed one of the sony 'drivers'. I figured out that one of those sony apps was the culprit but i never managed to find the one popping out that damn screen. but now it doesn't appear anymore! thanks thanks thanks!!!

  • Thank you for posting this, this stupid thing just happened to me and your guide helped me stop the process and get rid of it from my registry. Ur a life saver

  • - I му installed it on ASUS - (horrible))

    - justdelete the folder Program Files\Sony\Utilities\ISB

  • HOW TO DISABLE IT FOREVER: Go to Start Menu, in the search field type MSCONFIG and then go to Startup, then UNCHECK ISB Utility. Click apply.

  • @Gucowski ir works, thanks, i just installed windows 7 to my xp computer and installed the battery check for windows vista and it was a mistake.

  • @Gucowski does this affect any other programs?

  • Hi. If I had a Sony Vaio and removed windows (to install linux)? Would that fix the batterycheck issue? Would the PC and Linux properly recognize (and use) the battery?

  • @Ptero4 The issue is related only to the check program (isbmgr.exe), the computer will run fine even if it's nagging about a "fake" battery.

Of course that doesn't happen in a linux environment. My sony computer runs excellent with linux, even the Fn keys without the need of any archaic sony software.

  • @Zim0256 But. Does it actually recognize the battery (i.e: won't shut down when you pull out the ac b/c it thinks there's no battery present)?

  • @Ptero4 It's just a nag screen that must be killed and can be completely ignored and the PC will run just fine. It appears even when you're using an original Sony battery.

  • THANK YOU!

  • This removes the caution but the battery is no longer recognised. I tried to re-run the drivers but it states that the BIOS is up to date and that there is nothing to install. This is clearly not the case as the battery that was previously recognised no longer is. Any advice?

  • @peachblossom You're trying to do a BIOS update, you aren't actually installing any driver. Anyway the battery doesn't require any driver to work. You just insert the battery and it works. This video is only to remove the annoying message.

  • so can I remove it from the laptop with no problems?

  • thanks man for spent your time and shared this solution it did work very very good

  • thanks man for spent your time and shared this solution it did work very very good

  • wo0o0o0 go0o0d

  • And THIS is why I hate stupid proprietary software. Thanks a bunch!

  • This problem also happens with orignal batteries and new windows seven installation..

    two options-

1.unisnstall the batterychecker--by downloading it from the sony site and running it.. it will automatically uninstall if it is already installed

    2. disable isbmgr.exe from running at startup with msconfig (click start->run and type msconfig).

also you can remove power management but i wont suggest that..

  • Hi everyone. I've just had this starting on my new Vaio with the battery it came with. The simplest way to disable it happening is to run msconfig from start/run (WIN+R) and go to the startup tab. In there you'll see the ISBUtil shortcut. Just uncheck the box and save your changes. You'll be asked to restart, and that's it. Stupid Sony!!!

  • @ashjcam Thank you!

  • Thanks Alot mate , Really Helped but do you know anyway how to remove it permantly ?

  • i have a vaio vgn-nw26m which has no media player hot keys or media player fn keys....is there aniway that i can assign these functions or create new hotkeys so that they can be used anitime??? Please help people, i am so disappointed that mi laptop doesnt include these funtions n i want these functions in them however possible

  • Have to remove that error from the registry by searching the file name in the registry and deleting it. Anything else edited can and will cause OS problems.

For Windows 7 upgrade problems, try getting the updated files from the Sony website for Windows 7 for your machine to see if that helps with your issue. (not all machines will have Windows 7 updated files to download)

  • Anyways, is funny to see that dell, HP, and other brand names are providing free windows 7 upgrades if you bought your machine with Vista, all but SONY that gives instructions on how you can download the Win7 advisor and BUY a copy of Win7 for the upgrade if your machine supports ir.

  • great post, thx! had the same problem when updating from vista to win7 (using the original vaio battery).

    function keys don't work either!

  • thanks for this... i just installed the extra vaio disc that came with the windows 7 upgrade and this crap started happening.. i knew it was the discs fault and not my battery...

My battery CAME with my vaio.. so why the hell would they still do this? it makes no sense...

Also, how do you get to your registry to permanently get rid of this...? thanks for your help man

  • It's not fixed. If you do it that way it will only come back when you reboot. Disable that utility in the startup tab in msconfig.

  • If you disable it on MSConfig, you'll get another message on startup saying that something is disabled via MSConfig for troubleshooting.

To get rid of this kind of programs, you need to disable them using regedit or the "Autorun" tool from sysinternals.

  • halleljah! u saved my laptops from gettin thrown out the window!!lol

i see above u r talkin about fn keys n stuff not workng, i recently upgrading to windows 7 and fn, eject n all those buttons no longer work apart from the volume, any idea how to fix this?

  • Thx for the tip mate. Any pointers for 3rd party application for all the other stuff that don't work anymore (bluetooth toggle, special keys...)?

  • The only special key that i made work for my VAIO was the volume keys that are standard windows keymap and the brightness key with an application called "Backlight" that make the brightness change with the [WIN] + [F5/F6] combination. My model has no bluetooth and the WLAN toggle is a hard key that works by installing the ATHEROS Wlan card driver.

I NEVER made the [S1], [FN]+[F7] (LCD/CRT), [FN]+[F10] (Zoom), [FN]+[F11] (Hibernate) and the [AV MODE] keys to work under XP nor Vista.
