i was at a US footy game played in massachusetts (yes, the boston demonds actually) talking to a gent from Melbourne and we were talking about why the umpires arent wearing white anymore .... sure they might get called a "white maggot" but they look so refined out there.... kinda felt the pain cause i was a goal umpire that day hahaha
Refined is the word for back then, now the just look Crass. Why would you wear green when the game is played on green Grass. The AFL are such Tools in certain areas. Really pisses me off....
they say they dont want the umpires uniforms to "clash" with some of the team's geurnseys. there comes a time where glitter and flashiness must take a backseat for tradition. i would say give the umpires the white shorts, and make sure every AFL team NEVER wears white shorts out of respect.
@eric829 the home and away shorts have been apart of the game since the beginning so getting rid of the players white shorts would be getting rid of an even bigger tradition. no disrespect but your comment doesn't really make sense.
