Vaness was born in the States, I think California. He debuted in F4 (A Taiwanese boy-band) and speaks perfect English and Mandarin. Then later on he collaborated with KangTa (from disbanded group H.O.T) for SM I believe. SO! This explains his korean. They have an album out and so Vanness learned some Korean while Ahn Chil Hyun learned some Mandarin, ooooookay?

It was sort of like a "Korean Idol" audition...not bad, but when you're trying to follow an act like Kim Bum Soo...well, it's difficult. And you could tell how nervous he was through his voice--it was either too soft or blaring, and a little pitchy. But that's not to say I don't commend him for a nice try!

Vanness Wu isn't Chinese. He's from Taiwan making him Taiwanese. If he was Chinese he would be from Mainland China or Hong Kong (if they still call themselves Chinese). His Bogoshipda version is pretty good, but Kim Bum Soo is obviously better.
