  • i have a 99 zx2 although i cant say i've driven it yet cuz im only 16 and i need to buy its tires with my own money and fix the windshield and repaint it and fix a whole shitload of stuff but what i can say is that i love it, nice car man

  • ive done a little work on my zx2 i can redline second gear at around 70 and 3rd at 100

  • This old car is faster than the new 2011 Ford Fiestas

  • The ZX2 can go 7.3sec according to Motortrend

  • Shift at 5000 RPM outa first gear, take second to redline.

  • lol love when ppl say this car isnt fast cuz my zx2 stomps on any and all vtechs lol and it did it befor i turboed it lol i beet twin turbo celicas now and only have 20 psi boost hahaha kepp at it bro they are fast they are ment to be under cover cop cars in some states

  • Actually the platform the ZX2 is on is from Mazda ( the Mazda B Platform used for the Protege), not the drivetrain and that's the only Japanese input in the car the rest is all Ford parts. I recently brought a 2000 ZX2 as my 1st car and I'm quite happy with it, I've eaten up some Cavalier Coupes that wanted to race me and I'm very sure it will give a Civic a run for it's money.

  • @Arqera The engine and transmission on all ZX2s are definitely Mazda.

  • @Jesusfrk611 Incorrect about the engine , bro. All stock Ford ZX2s use the Ford 2.0 ltr Zetec motor, but they do use the Mazda G5M manual transmission or the Mazda F-4EAT automatic ( both trasmissions were also used in the Probe, Protege, MX6, Focus, and Kia Sephia), My Zx2 is bone stock, and while it may not be the fastest car out there....its quick enough to have some fun with and look good doing it. It can run with 90s Mustang v6s. :D

  • you guys are all idiots, dont you know that the drivetrain in this FORD zx2 is a goddamn mazda. so if you want to say that the damn gook rides are teabagging american cars on the road. it is jap scrap. same for the probe, oh and the power stroke 7.3 is also a international motor. so quit talkin out your ass u import retards.

  • dude my buddy has a zx2 n he swears by shiftin at about 4,500rpm or a little over. i havent ever seen him shift that car higher... once you go over 4,500 u start to loose torque wich u need to accelerate. shift between 4,500 and 5,000 n put a new vid up!!

  • dude my buddy has a zx2 n he swears by shiftin at about 4,500rpm or a little over. i havent ever seen him shift that car higher... once you go over 4,500 u start to loose torque wich u need to accelerate. shift between 4,500 and 5,000 n put a new vid up!!!

  • here you problem the you are shifting to late try shifting at 5500 for 3rd to 4 and 4 to 5 i manage a 6.5 at a strip with a bone stock 98 zx2 its all depends on the driver

  • I have a 98 ZX2, I dont really like it, but it dont owe me anything so I drive it. Just wondering why when it's cold out, about -10C or colder it seems to "haul ass" but as soon as its warm to hot outside, it is brutal, has no power whatsoever. Is there a sensor or something that could be fucked, or do all ZX2's do the same?

  • its cuz cold air is more dense so the ecu throw more fuel

  • If it's when the car itself is still not to 'normal' operating temperature (coolant temp) then the engine computer runs the engine with a pre-set fuel/ignition map, ignoring the oxygen sensors inputs/readings and also ignoring the air temperature sensors and the coolant temp sensors. But once the engine heats up, the ECU starts to go to closed loop (open loop when 'cold') readings which use the sensor inputs so if you have low power on closed loop it would most likely be ur sensors (o2 sensors?)

  • my ZX2 does the same thing... love driving it in the winter, never thought i would miss driving it but i do.. too lazy to change the water pump...

  • mine does the same, when i first start it up, it moves, i think it might be the aluminum head or something, not really sure what it could be

  • zx2s arnt that bad, they run whicked good cold, and they got a pretty cool look to them( unlike all those jap peices of shit that copy all the american cars) i prolly burned like 150-200ft of rubbed around a corner one time, burning rubber from 1st through 2nd, constantly.

  • ok i hate to sound like a hating ass hole... but, if Japanese cars copied American cars, in anyway. then the Japanese car companies would be going under(like the American companies), they wouldn't be T-bagging the American companies like they are now. And yes i do like Ford so i don't just like Japanese cars.

  • its ok, i love american cars, but the companies need to learn how to spend, or budget their money better, the only fords i like, are esorts, zx2, and rangers, im more of a GM, and dodge, and i know what ur thinking, bankrupcy, but they'll pull something out their ass, hopefully theyll learn something, take it easy man!

  • I think Ford will be fine, but since GM and Chrysler are now pretty much owned by the US government i think there done.

  • yea ford should be fine, i dont think GM and Chrysler are going to be bailed out, the government will prolly do something with them., our economy sucks ass though.

  • Escorts are the one of the most reliable cars from Ford. There built by Mazda and are on the same platform as the protege. The only thing Ford is the engine. ;)

  • i got a 99 Z and idk ive only had it about 2 months and i love it. all my friends put their money into honda's and i burn them up in my Zx2...i laugh everytime...they get so pissed

  • ...lol, Hondas are about all you could beat and I'm sure it's the non-VTECs. When you want to get your ass handed to you by a car with real power, let me know...fucking ugly ass ZX2s...

  • haha they are all vtec's they try and supe them up with cold air intakes and stage 3 clutches...

  • A Honda is more car than any ZX2 could ever hope to be. Seriously, GTFO with your lame ass 130 hp turd...

  • Hold on I just went to your profile, and you're saying that a Honda is more car than a ZX2, when you drive a Riviera. Haha, while Escorts and Civics are just economy cars. "Seriously, GTFO with your lame ass 130 hp turd" haha.

  • Cool! I have an 2002 ZX2 with 18,000 miles on it. just got it in april. mine gets 24 mpg around town.

  • 18,000 miles?! Holy shit dude, good job on that one.

  • I have a 98 escort with a 2L engine and an intake and an exhaust and it runs real good! It gets 28 miles per gallon too.

  • lol i got a 96 lx and that baby gets around 36-40 est. mpg (city) thanks to having litle power :(

  • 9-10 is ATX with the shift kit mod time, if you have a MTX and you're this slow, you need to get on it harder

  • Everyone at the beginning was talking about "maybe???" getting a 0-60 under 8 secs??? I'm confused... stone cold stock mine hits 0-60 in about 7.7 with the perfect hit. Average would probably be 7.85. Right now my average is 7.3. These cars aren't slow. They aren't mustangs or vettes... but a nice little 33 mpg civic eater :).

  • 2.8*

  • well considering the fact i have a 2L engine...so yeaaaa

  • dude, why bash other people's videos for no reason? you only make yourself look stupid by doing that ... stop being childish, and write something worth reading ...

  • Well, this car is 10 years old, and it was fast back then. It's no use comparing it to today's technology. Even though today it still is as fast and maybe even faster than some cars on the road. Go buy yourself a 1 liter engine, then come back talk trash about my ford.

  • @phsouzabr

He's right. These cars were never "fast". Never. Also, displacement isn't everything you know. I know of a 1.6 (4g61t) that could stomp your Escort all day. You're just defending the Escort because that's what you bought. If you had something faster you'd say it was slow, too. Get over it.

  • @CoChicken1337 correction, these cars were never fast stock, and once you get rid of all the economic crap under the hood, throw on a header, 2.5 inch exhaust, and a 4 inch tip, with a CAI, or ram air like mine, where is no more economic restrictions, there isnt a 1.6l with the same mods that can touch it. in fact, my sisters 97 civic, with the d16y7 1.6l with full exhaust, CAI, cams, header, and chip, and throttle body, cant touch me. watch my acceleration video. then judge how "slow" it is.

  • @PublicEnemyZX2

Like I said told you on the other video: You clearly don't know what fast is. Your car must have been a real turd in stock form, because even with all that shit done to it it still only accelerates like a stock one. You clearly don't know what you're talking about kid. You're talking about your fucking ZX2 like it's the fastest thing in the world. Go rice your car out some more and quit posting stupid shit on videos.

  • @CoChicken1337 dont look up ford zx2 if you dont like them go look up your beloved audi r8 that you will never be able to afford because its fucking $150,000. stop shitting on people's fun. ass hole!

  • @kridr2

I never said that I don't like them. I used to have one. It was a great car for daily driving, but the price:performance ratio is so shitty that it's pointless to try to make them at all fast. Also, I don't really like R8's. I have no idea where you came to that conclusion. I mean, they're nice cars and all, but supercars generally aren't my cup of tea.

  • @CoChicken1337 0-60 in 7.3sec isn't fast bitch?

  • @mustangmikeca

    Not at all.

  • @phsouzabr SCORE 1 FOR BEING BUILT FORD TOUGH!!!

  • @phsouzabr try seafoam and see if it doesn't give some life back into it.

  • @razrg3 fords escort / focus is faster then honda civics. if you think about it for your buck it is pretty fast... i dropped about 800 under the hood and my drag time is 13.427

  • @bigstrappa

    Complete and utter fallacy.

  • @razrg3 so 7.3sec 0-60 isn't fast bitch?

  • @razrg3 its a ford with a mazda motor, and actually it can out run a lot of other 4 cylinder cars stock to stock. now if you are comparing this car to the zr1 then ya i guess you could say its slow but how many of us can afford a car like that. so just stop with the troll attitude.

  • I have a 2000 zx2 and I can get it in 8 seconds. Main thing, the cars prime to shift is 5800 rpm, at least thats what ive gotten the best out of.

  • ZX2 is very fast 0 to about 30-40, about 2.5 sec to 30, it has plenty of torque down low, it really shoves you into the seat. But after that it quickly runs out to breath, but still manages 0-60 in about 8-9 sec. It's a great car for town driving, it's as fast as you want it to be, and very nimble and composed. It's by far the best bang for a buck after Miata for fun and yet economical driving.

  • I had a 96 Ford Probe with the 2 liter 16v motor and a manual transmission. I could go good 0-40 in bout 4 secs.

  • dude stop that stupid talk..NOW!!!

  • go fuck yourself punk, you probaqbly dont even have a car, faggot

  • I think its funny you say that, because I am buying my third car in 2 hours.

(btw, all of them are faster than an escort)

  • were you just sleeping, cause that sounds like a dream

  • I found with my zx2 that its not always good to go up to redline with first gear. Second gear has much better acceleration, so go up to redline in second and you should be almost at 60 by then.

  • you do hit 60 in second gear, but it'll be at redline ... =D

  • Nay.

ZX2 peaks HP at around 4800 revs, you should shift at around 5200 so the pre and post shift revs bracket your peak power.

  • ZX2 peaks at 5200, not 4800. My ZX2 is an automatic and I can still get under 9 seconds 0-60 and I can't even redline it if I want to (not without the slushbox choking)

  • haha, i found you on a random video, what are the chances.

  • here's your first obvious problem, your skidding at the beginning. You want to get good times, you need know exactly when to release the clutch and how hard. You need to rev up to Just the right RPMs then let of the clutch fast. If RPM's are too high, you'll lose grip. If RPM's are too low... you accel slower.

  • I haven't timed myself yet, but i'm confident i can get 7-8 seconds in mine.

  • im 14 and my mom has a 98' stock zx2 automatic trans and i hit 60 before the end of a 150 foot parkinglot

  • Its an escort what do you expect. Wanna go 0-60 in under 5 seconds, buy a Mustang.

  • What a joke. Mustangs are trash.

  • oh really... and what do you drive mr tough guy?

  • haha

    10 seconds.

  • i have a 2002 escort ZX2 and reallly want to add some mods to it once i get some money and already know about autoanything(dot)com for just parts but what are some other good sites and i could search and get some good info off of?

  • try the ZX2 website, its teamzx2(dot)com theres a lot of info there about parts and stuff. try as well fordpartsonline(dot)com and partsquest(dot)com

    good luck!

  • zxtunercom is a good site. focus-powercom has a turbo kit for the zx2.

  • What everyone has to remember about 0-60 tests by car magazines is that the equipment that they use is not influenced by reaction time. Using a stopwatch will likely result in a slower time. Because of its age, you probably get the entire car overhauled before doing any modifications. That alone should improve the acceleration.

  • thanks for the info!

  • sweet man thanks a lot. one more question what do you think about the monza pacesetter exhaust..if you know if they sound good on the zx2 or anything i was looking at those

  • well, i actually don't know much about them, except that they are raspy. lol, but hell yeah, they can sound good if you do it right, and muffle them just enough, with the right parts. i'll send you a link later.

  • i have a 2000 ZX2 with K&N short ram intake, the other day i got 8.03 for my 0-60.

  • cool! i heard if you get the chip and the intake you can make 7's. =D

  • what chip i see a lot of bullshit on ebay for chips but i havent seen any legit ones. what all do you have on your z?

  • i did a lot of research to find the one that actually works. Its the SCT - Super Chips Tuning. It's custom programmed for you and your car, according to your needs, for about 200 bucks. =D You should check out the forum teamzx2(dot)com - theres a lot of stuff there - and the SCT website sctflash(dot)com

    hope this helps, good luck!

  • I can vouch for this. Those little things can move. I always loved making a turn and lighting the tires up in 2nd. It would leave 250 ft of rubber on the pavement. And it let me walk away from a 40mph tbone with a crown vic too without even breaking glass.

  • lol! =D I've had my fair shares of fun with it too ;) Great little car!

  • Simple Intake should help alot to, ebay $20

  • Yeah, I'll give it a try.

  • It's a 9 year-old car, so some of its performance has been zapped because of normal wear and tear. Other than that, you may want to try and let out a little more gently on the clutch. For a light car with only 130 hp, spinning the wheels might hurt your overall time. One last idea, hold the revs above 2K momentarily before launching.

  • Thanks! A lot of new ideas and techniques to try out ;)
