I want to find a piano version of this, played at this pace and phrasing. Every piano version is either too fast or two slow and staccato, or over-embellished (Glenn Gould.)
I like this performance, and the attending portraits of Bach. Where did you find such a nice scan of the #2 Hausmann Portrait? I also enjoyed the sculpture, marble bust of Bach that I was unfamiliar with.
@Swede1066 It's true his music was influenced and devoted to God and this is true of Handel. I care because I like to know what influences a composer, it helps paint a picture for that song on what he was thinking when he composed this.
This version of the prelude is my favourite one, exspecially in the first passage... maybe because it's played a bit slower and more softly than any other version on Youtube (and I think the result is very good).
When I first heard the fugue I thought to myself, "This is awfully familiar." And then I realized, it's the Jurassic Park theme! I haven't been able to find anything to confirm if it's true, but I'm guessing John Williams must have heard this fugue and then took part of it for the Jurassic Park theme.
hmmm......i think I know what you mean....when i was doing my last year of music at school, i had to write an essay on the first movement of vivaldi's summer.....I love that piece of music but by the time the essay was written i could stand hearing it.....music is something i have a great interest in, but i didn't enjoy it as a subject at school....
ah alright thanks I think someones people play the prelude with another piece so I was wondering I thought about that, considering the toccattas and fugues with the same catalogue, thanks
@Crancob I totally agree with your comment about the break neck speed that some play this piece. Some of the asian women in particular that I've listened to on the tube are guilty of this.
This is the most nostalgic of Bach's pieces (because my mom used to play it all the time when I was a kid, and even I eventually played it for some time before realizing that I suck at it), and it sounds so beautiful on a harpsichord.
@Chris93Rock this song was write for this instrument, not for piano ^^ it seems like a piano, but smaller ( less notes ) and instead of hammers there is ( sry for my english ) a kind of pin that "finger" the string! :P hope i helped u!
I prefer it about this speed on the piano. I feel like you can't appreciate the notes as much if it's faster. It is indeed played well and is a beautiful piece.
i wish i knew enough to understand your Youtube critiques. I did not know such a well schooled audience viewed the site. I personally, as no more than a patron and frequent visitor, simply watch the videos with gratitude and joy to hear such music. Hoorah!
The beginning of the Prelude was too slow, yet it went slightly fast where it speeds up. I love the harpsichord, it sounds much better than on piano, but I don't like the "bang" at 1:38 - that is notated to be an arpeggiation... why was it done otherwise?
This is played by a professional harpsichordist who also taught the instrument, she knows a helluva lot more than you do about how this should be played, so I suggest you keep your mouth shut. I don't play this as arpeggio either, because the presto part LEADS UP to this huge chord.
Is that you playing the harpsichord? You did well, but if you REALLY want to make an impression, play it faster. It sounds amazing on the harpsichord, BTW. Thanks.
Heheheh. Nope, that's not me playing. I only wish I had that kind of talent. This was taken from a CD of mine. But I am, in fact, a former musician. When I was in high school, we used to play an incredible rock version of this tune, so it has alot of nostalgic and sentimental meaning to me
i started trippin out when Bach was changing color lol but truly a wonderful piece!

Hi,i am looking for a fugue speciallist to tell me what is that chromatic fugue:
youtube.com/watch?v=yotypIIavlQ&list=HL1326399726&feature=mh_lolz
I found it as notes and then i made it with a music notation program

i think the hapsichord fits very well to this piece, but i think it could be a bit faster, but also really nice in this tempo ;)

anyone recognised it is played seminote lower?
thatwhichidesire 1 year ago
@thatwhichidesire It's Baroque tuning. It's probably A=415 instead of A=440, which we're used to.

@ryanlock2u good point! I didn't think about that. Probably your right.

@OriginalBasaliskos Nice idea but I don't think he stole all of it. Perhaps he took inspiration from the chord sequence up until 0:20?

@Chadt01 I know, but I never said he "stole" it. ; )

Dont say it like that.. this is some of the greatest music ever composed.
Im honestly quite saddened by the fact that music is so oversimplified now days, and people cant tell the difference from good and bad.

whats the BWV catalogue of the fugue?
VincentVolaju 2 years ago
They're both classified in the same BWV...847, the prelude is supposed to be an introduction to the fugue, they're played as one piece together.

Chris93Rock 3 years ago
It's a harpsichord. They were popular keyboards during the baroque period.
Swede1066 3 years ago 12
Harpsichords are pianos played by in stead of a hammer hitting the string like a piano, the string is plucked, like a guitar.
beatle96 3 years ago
@Chris93Rock well it wouldn't sound very similiar to the piano because piano strings are hammered, whereas i think harpsichord strings are plucked :D
