Sorry, but doing the drill this way is neuro-physiologically unsound, and will create bad habits. There are other ways of strengthening the wrist (ie, lift weights) which do not contribute to bad throwing habits. The elbow should always end up fully extended, and the fingers pointing towards the ground. Repeatedly teaching the brain that the ball is released while the elbow is at 90 degrees is counter-productive, and will contribute to poor overall throwing technique.
@TheBaseballdoc i think that it is a drill to warm up the wrist, rather than strengthen it. When I start warming up before softball games, I take a knee and this is my first warm up drill. It works wonders for me! (:
My only point is that there are better ways of accomplishing the same goal and acheiving the same outcome without introducing any contradictory neurophyisologic pathways.
Imagine the wonders you might experience if you did it correctly !!
Big up$ to FArmington HS! I always try to watch random videos to better myself as a coach. I've seen many FHS! I'm very impressed with your fundamental videos, I too used these drill from LL to college. Key part of be a coach, that is often overlooked, is the abiliy to make others comprehend. Keep up the good work!
should i practice this with my sister? shes 12 and shes only played softball once. the coach said she was good though. and i noticed shes good with throwing far, but shes not always accurate with getting it directly to me
