...(cont'd) Of the three "non-core" brands, Pontiac was the one that had the most potential IMO. To bring them back they needed to return to offering a unique model line-up aimed at youth and performance. Sharing platforms is okay - look at the old Sunbird with it's pop-up headlights and turbo engine, WAY different than Cavalier, not like the G5 and Cobalt twins. I'd have kept the G8 and Solstice, and made the Opel/Buick Regal the new G6 instead (credit to coolerdude44 for the idea).
THANK YOU THANK YOU A ZILLION TIMES THANK YOU!!!! I have been wanting to see the full version of this commercial forEVER!!!!! As for me, I have a Pontiac...a 1985 Firebird! So I KNOW excitement. :D
personally i think that buick should have been killed off in america, the opel insignia should have been sold as a pontiac instead of a buick, and pontiac should have been saved.
the brands to die should have been gmc, buick, and saturn with cars like the pontiac g6 and g3 being killed off as well.
seriously, what's the point of gmc? they have the exact same trucks as chevy, they look the same, and cost the same too. who needs two of the same?
I´m absolutely right with that what are you saying.
Pontiac WAS a performance Brand years ago(as they stopped the Trans Am)...They should have restarted the Brand with 3 cars ... The Trans Am, GTO and the solstice... that´s enough.
And the thing about GMC ...yeah i dont unterstand it too... Chevy makes the same trucks... the only difference is the Name ...And i don´t think that many people are gonna buy trucks with increasing gas prices.
personally i think you'd be nuts to buy a tahoe or any variation of it (that includes the pickup truck) even if fuel prices are $0.01.
the g8 is only good because it's not american, same thing with the solstice (although the solstice isn't as good as its competitor, the mx5).
i was actually thinking the other day... apart from gm's trucks and corvettes, there hasn't actually been an american gm product in years. everything originates in australia or europe.
@coolerdude44 I've been saying the same thing since Pontiac died. Glad to see I'm ont alone! You're exactly right that they should've gotten rid of GMC, which is nothing more then copycat Chevrolets with a buyer base not loyal to either nameplate. As for Buick, their base could've been absorbed within the company easily: performance-minded go to Pontiac, some to Chevrolet, and Cadillac could've introduced an entry-level (for them) model to bridge the gap...
@coolerdude44 I never understood why they still have GMC either, at least the Hummer brand produced different looking vehicles then Chebby trucks. Or alternatively they could have killed off the chebby truck division and kept GMC. GM (Government Motors) is a mess, they should have let the company go bankrupt and reorganized it instead of bailing it out. Someone would have bought it out for $.10 on the dollar and cleaned it up, it did have brick and mortar assets just bad union contracts.
@coolerdude44 well pontiac hasnt come out with anything good in the past few years. most of their cars were a copy of either holden or chevy. the g5, g8, gto, etc. but i do think that pontiac should have been saved. i love every style of firebird and gto, and have a 3rd gen as my daily driver. they were a performance branch back in the day but theyve been slipping.
didn't you hear... A dealership wants to buy the brand and closed factories. GM didnt want to but after bankruptcy they softened there stance. Ive said that the brand can be revived. its problems are that it has to many rebadged cars.
I think they should sold the brand.... we won´t see Pontiac again under GM.... it´s like Oldsmobile. It´s the only hope for Pontiac Fans to get the brand back if the dealership buys the brand and factories!
About the rebadged cars.... i hated the Camaro and loved the Firebird. I don´t know why^^. But i agree with you nowadays GM only switched the Chevy sign with a Pontiac sign
they need the fiero back!!!
