The guys at WSVN in Miami tried the combo newsroom/studio thing, calling it the "newsplex" and it's still around. KIRO tried it, and fell flat on it's butt. If only it could have competed better, but CBS was no help.
@tmisch64 KIRO had newsroom sets throughout the '80s, so that alone wasn't the problem. The 1993 "News Outside the Box" experiment had a lot of gimmicks that viewers found distracting. A couple examples: Anchors would deliver stories while walking around the set (a dance instructor had been brought in to coach them. Segments would occasionally be delivered by KIRO radio newsreaders from their studio, which had been integrated into the TV newsroom.
@tkaye2 Since this clip was from June 11, it came after the severe backlash from viewers and they were trying to mitigate the "busy" factor by having the anchors take stationary positions on the set. In a couple months, "NOTB" would be completely scrapped and the more traditional "Newschannel 7" set was built in the middle of the giant newsroom.
news looked so primitive back then, the clothing, etc., but stations have to change their format every so often to keep people awake and listening/watching. Comes with the territory
This when they also used the "Triangle 7" logo (Yeah, there IS a seven in that logo.)

I still say this is the best news theme ever, and it's a sin that nobody is using it.

Moreover, this is the most dignified news open ever.
One feature is the glass animation.
Make the glass animation move even more, like they did for the Stargate SG-1 Season 10 intro.

Make it more Seattle-like

A News theme done by a symphony orchestra, like KIRO's theme was done my the Seattle Symphony (Gerald Schwarz).
This is a NETWORK-QUALITY, NETWORK GOOD news theme.
It makes me feel like I'm watching the CBS Evening News.
