@horn1palmer nah im way south..........hey what horn would u reccomend forr a high school kid thats pretty good but wants a darker sound(me) for under 4500
I personally find that a moderately deep cup mouthpiece should be your standard mouthpiece for a nice dark sound, and it also helps make the low notes ring better and the high notes sound less like a different instrument or something. The faxx C8 (basically a copycat of the giardinelli C8) is my mouthpiece and it works for me. Though you could go with an even deeper mouthpiece and sound even better in the low range, but then your chances of hitting the high d flat go down and it takes a lot mor
Those notes should be just as I have played them. The errata is referring to the fact that this piece in "old notation" for the bass clef. New notation would imply going down another octave lower than what I've played here. I don't see anybody writing a down to pedal C's and lower.
If you read it as an octave higher than I played, it wouldn't make any sense.
omg.... i dont play a brass, let alone french horn, but those pedal tones were SEXXYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! i play bass clarinet.

Just open your jaw more. Buzz more and worry about resonance and not darkness.
Save your money.

Strategy: be good when others fail. Look at the view counts. Do the math. Good luck.

What type of mouth piece do you think I should upgrade to?
evanq95 5 months ago
@evanq95
it depends on your lips and embouchure and what you are looking to achieve. Lawson wrote something good about mouthpieces if my memory serves me.

That looks so much harder than any region music I've ever played. Good job!
saxyfluteguy 5 months ago
Haha agreed. Besides even if this is wrong, if I am able to pull it off and noone else plays it like this, 1st chair in the bag.
FamilyGuyLover66 5 months ago
And yes, I practiced the first line like that.
FamilyGuyLover66 5 months ago
I agree it wouldnt make any sense but it says "written one octave lower than performed"
FamilyGuyLover66 5 months ago
@FamilyGuyLover66
Good point, but I judge these things and no judge would look at the music and go, "Hmmm... this looks like it should be unisons here."
Trust me here. You'll thank me later.
horn1palmer 5 months ago
Just so you know you do NOT play the base clef notes that low; you play then one octave higher than written (reference the errata)
FamilyGuyLover66 5 months ago
@FamilyGuyLover66
Actually, that's a common misinterpretation.
Those notes should be just as I have played them. The errata is referring to the fact that this piece in "old notation" for the bass clef. New notation would imply going down another octave lower than what I've played here. I don't see anybody writing a down to pedal C's and lower.

horn1palmer 5 months ago
@FamilyGuyLover66
Also, if you look in the first line, they write a treble clef low C, then do the bass clef low Bb, Ab, and G octave changes afterward.
horn1palmer 5 months ago
It's in the Key Signature.
Hornprof 6 months ago
I agree. An Eb would work better, but it isn't listed as an official errata, so students, please play as written until it is officially changed.
horn1palmer 6 months ago
Bar 52 into 53 should have an Eb not an E natural.
Hornprof 6 months ago
You scared me for a second! lol I thought I would have to play that fast
