At age 59, I am willing to try those things interest me and take a small risk (not a big one) for the experience! We were at one of the best fugu restaurants in Tokyo that night,so the small risk was far smaller in that calibre of a restaurants. At about $150 PER PERSON for the seven ( I think) course meal, is was for me, something afford once!!
The video was supposed to show a "typical" loud American joking around at what for us is a highly unusual meal. So I suppose it IS a joke. The serious comments about Fugu are not however. It can be deadly.
The meal that night was so well prepared that none of the eight of us felt even a slight numbness in our mouths, a common effect with a Fugu dinner. It was an absolutely delightful experience and perhaps my fondest memory of all my trips to Japan!
Actually, if the Fugu is prepared by a unproffesional chef, and is not poison-free, the poison will start to do it's magic around 2 minutes after the infected Fugu is consumed.
I'm sure you already know this and may be licensed but in restaurants, you need to be licensed in preparing fugu so make sure you know what you're doing! :)

1. you start to feel gradual pain around the chest
2. you cant move any of your body (paralyzed) but still able to see and aware of what is happening
3. if you do not have a machine pumping air through your lungs then you will die about 5 minuts after eating the fugu
