At the beginning there, I thought Grant just got swallowed whole by the frog and that it was over just like that. The swamp guys remind me of Grimer.

Do those bags just give you 200 points? They seem kind of pointless. Or is that pointful?

And did I just see a chandelier come out of a candlestick?

It depends on the source of the bag. Every breakable object in a stage has a preset drop, including valued money bags.

For example, in the first stage there is a single candle that Trevor cannot reach, but if you have a partner that can reach it with you, either by a special password or a second round playthrough that partner, it actually contains 7,000 points!

The most common denominations are 100, 200, 400, 700, and 1000 from what I can recall.

I'm not sure what you mean by chandelier.

The chandelier appeared at 4:02. Is that something other than a chandelier?

I thought the things you get from these light sources are random. They seem different when you died towards the end of the stage and you had to start over. Then again, you were playing as Grant until he died, then you switched to Trevor.

Oh those, those are whip upgrades. The reason they look different in this game is because if you see them as another character (they don't appear for Syfa or Grant), you can similarly upgrade your attacks They're just more neutral in appearance in this game than the original. They DO look kinda chandelier-like.

The reason they might seem random is because if your character already has or cannot use the item they drop, the drop will be something else.

That's impressive then, to fit all that into one NES cartridge. I was pretty amazed looking at the detail of the environments in this game, but they had the extra space needed to assign each light source to its own item drop...
