To jmsweat: Well, Bryant was #1, legally. It was in his contract that he opened and closed every show. He was the anchor of the show and Jane was the co-anchor. (The "anchor" title went away when Matt Lauer replaced Bryant.) It seems like a silly distinction, but 1987 was a long time ago.
It was so obvious how Bryant hogged the show and thought he was #1 over everyone else. I'm glad it was more equal between Katie and Matt when they were hosts.
Jane would move to another position on the set to get in place for interviews. There was a living room set directly across from the anchor desk in the show's old studio, 3B, where Bryant and Jane would conduct interviews apart from the anchor desk.
Excellent! It's always fun seeing how this show has changed over the years. If you have anything from 1990 during the short-lived Gumbel/Norville duo, I'd really enjoy seeing it.
