Cool, If you go to the NRCA website you can search for the TPO testing results. We looked into installing these systems since they have become the new rave and after repairing or coating over many of these old roofs we decided not to. We have seen nothing but good things with PVC with only a few cons. Some PVC membranes when hot emit a nasty wax odor and the other issue is bullets. We have seen bullets, bolts, tire irons etc. puncture these roofs. You can see pics on our Facebook.
They should call single ply roofs for what they truly are, Tarp Systems. The NRCA wrote a fail for TPO and believes it should go back (yet again) to the drawing board and reformulate the product due to its high failure rate. PVC as far as I can tell is the only tarp system worth a darn. Good Job Coolflatroof.
Haha i know man it looks like hes fuckn going into battle and the robot is throwing his ass around... dude u dont even need to touch the damn thing besides if it gets off it course, u need to chill and relax dude.. Learn how to run that thing right. It actually is worse for it if u put a bunch of pressure on it and keep movin it back and forth and fuckn with it... leave it alone dude, when i run it i just rest my hand on the grip and use my foot to kick it side to side if it gets off course
I agree definitely that you sweat like a dog when you wear a lot of clothes and roof, but I just about turned black after 2 days one summer. The sun really reflects off the roof and makes it feel about twice as hot as it actually is... That machine looks like a real handsaver, I don't think I do enough roofing to justify buying something like that though, so I will stick to my little roller.... :-(
Where we live pvc is junk. It does not hold up to the cold temperatures very well. Our company does both. We install Carlisle roofing systems. We have rubber roofs that have lasted 30 years!! Our company has torn off many pvc roofs that have big cuts in the membrane because they dry out after so many years and become britle and crack and split. Duralast is also a joke! They lie and cheat to get jobs!!
Why does he look like hes fighting with the dog? just walk with it, it walks itself! also looks like hes got it set at 1100 degrees @ 1 foot per minute...lol 80 mil I suggest trying around 1050-1100 degrees @ around 8fpm. TPO manufacturer and ambient temp will cause robot to weld differently but thats the ballpark. Relax its a $7k machine let IT do the work.
@antipoopydick It IS necessary to follow the machine and roll in the the laps where the VERTICAL seam goes underneath the lap you are welding. (spot rolling) with a v-edge roller.
We always rolled the seam behind it just to be safe....I was doing single ply's 15 20 yrs ago, we ALWAYS wore shorts. Back in the day we even wore flip flops, and this was on MAJOR jobs with acres of roof
those robots are great. they make the job sooo much easier. They are definatly hella expansive my boss just bought one for 7 grand and it really makes a world of difference. I always wear pants when we roof however with that kind of roof system id wear shorts too. Theres no real danger involved as opposed to a build up tar roof that could seriously burn the hell out of you. Nice vid bro
BTW, I don't get the obsession with the shorts. WHO cares? You want to sweat like a dog in q 100 degree weather, then wear snowboarding gear. It was WAY to hot that week (over 100 degrees every day we were on that roof).
You are absolutely right about the Varimat - it saves wrist, makes welds a lot better and saves so much time. It was the first thing we bought when we started.
your stupid you scared or something to use it and its called durolast not cold oo and pretty soon in one roof there gonna tell you you cant use shorts
Well, 13.5 feet per min. is great, but for us it is about quality, not speed. Besides, roofing should be fun, not torture. That is why we roof in shorts!

Very handy machine, we use one for lap welding huge supermarket roofs over in the UK. The chap should relax more and let the 'dog' do the work :)

@westcoatshane - Hi Shane, Can you elaborate on NRCA trashing TPO? Please provide a link.
Also - this is a PVC - 80 mil - definitely not a tarp and is pretty bullet-proof roof.

you should always push your "T" laps in with the rounded side of your prove as soon as you pass with the walk welder.
