  • What an incredibly subtle, inventive, free and sophisticated work. Beautifully played. But the pianist (not accompanist, please!) should practice her octaves more.

  • Can anyone tell me in this entire sonata, would the MVT 1(allegro) be the exposition, mvt 2 (at beginning of this vid) be the development and mvt 3 here be the recapitulation? Debussy does not seem to follow the traditional rules of the sonata form, so some insight would be appreciated from someone who knows as I'm teaching myself about sonata form.

  • marsik stradivarius

  • I'm drawsy while i'm listening to Oistrakh here beacause I feel Debussy marinated in Vodka mmmm so tasty :)

  • it's not that the instruments are tuned flat kave60 it's because it's a recording...i'm not sure why but recordings often end up being brought down a semitone. this also sometimes with movie soundtracks, where the soundtrack will play the music a semi tone lower than on the actual movie

  • This sometimes happens when a video has been recorded at the European standard (25 fr/sec) and played back at the American film standard (24 fr/sec) - almost perfectly a half-step difference.

  • Bello, bello... Muy bello.... Gracias.

  • ITS SOOOOOOO FLAT

  • Hey guys check out this, let me know if I am right: The Piano is almost half a step flat tuned, so Oistrakh violin as well!!.

Also, look out how brilliantly the pianist brings out the bass line at 2 measure before rehearsal 3 in 2nd movt.

  • Просто прекрасно и восхитительно!

  • It's wierd and wonderful music. Sort of melancholy, bittersweet and slightly strange. This was one of his last works and in some respects it is just what you'd expect from Debussy, and in others it is totally different. Oistrakh was clearly in a hurry, he didn't even take off his coat!

  • thank you so much for putting this up!!!

  • If You Want To Play This Sonata Good, You Must Look Like You Understand Alot About It...

    But David Oistrakh, Really Does!

  • Thanks to whoever posted this incredible recording. D. Oistrakh is the greatest violinist that ever lived. I love it love it love it love it love it so much it makes me cry. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! so introverted and mysterious. SEXY music. Thank You!

  • ПРЕКРАСТНО!!!
