I appreciate all of the comments. Let me say that what we try to represent is a well rounded bushcrafting channel. Not everything is about "budget". We try to offer suggestions for quality equipment, as well as doing without if necessary. I hope that people can understand that.
Geeez David, another great video, but $100 for a neck knife! Definitely not a budget bushcraft knife especially when there are several other alternatives for alot less $. Such as the Becker Necker.
Dave i always notch the upright stick so the trigger fits into it and if you have your bait getting stolen i have found that if you split the tip of your trigger stick you can shove the bait into the trigger stick making it tougher for the critter to dine and ditch(also if you put a little pine sap at the split tip i works like glue to really secure the bait).Dave thanks for these videos, i always like learning different ways to do stuff.The figure 4 spring snare could make a good video as well.
Generally people would use offal from a dead animal.. or fish in a wilderness situation. When you have things with you.. I hear peanut butter works great!
Good to see you guys back ...... Hope everything is well... looking forward to more vids .. Maybe a vid of an overnight in the shelter its cold enough you can fire up the stove!
C'mon guys. The purpose of the gear review is to give an opinion as to the functionality of the product and how it performs. It is up to you to decide whether you want to spend the money or not. Like you, I know of several knives on the market that cost less and perform as well, but that's not the purpose of this video. Give Dave a break.
Everyone has their own opinion.. and that's what makes the world great! It not a problem to me that some find these knife expensive.. I have several Tops knives.. and they have been well worth the price to me. I have also had other knives.. and some were great.. some not so great.
So happy to see you back. Now, it seems all the complaints revolve around the price of the knife and not the knife itself. Remember, the market sets the price and in this case the market is the military. If Tops ends up with a contract and starts pumping these knives out by the hundreds of thousands then the price will undoubtedly fall. Until then you'll either have to compete with the deep pockets of the military or get gramma to give you one for Christmas.
I missed you guys. I just got a new Benchmade knife a week or so back its awsome for the price like 60 bucks 5 inch droppoint and cuts my fingers to shreds. lol I do like that little neck knife but 100 bucks is a bit rich for my blood.
I enjoyed your video, and treasure every time I get to commune w/ you thru youtube, but I feel that I can make a similar knife for 1/10th the price that serves the same purpose. Maybe if I received one gratis I would feel different, but at that price a Cold Steel Roach Belly would serve the same purpose for under $25.00
What happened to the Dave from naked into the wilderness? The everyday man.

Very good demonstration of the figure 4 trap. That Mil-Spie3 looks like a dandy of a knife. 1095 is my favorite steel too.

any particular reason why the bottom piece of wood is that much thinner then the other two?

I assume that you mean the trigger.. It's so that it doesn't weigh down and come loose by itself...

I noticed that several comments were made about the price of these knives. How much do they cost?

@biguy525
If you go to Tops website listed in the video and the sidebar.. you can get exact prices.. but both knives are right in the $100 range..

The only complaint I have ever had with Tops knives is, you get a nice knife at 4 times the price.
A BK Necker is everything that Tops knife is, and its $35.00. Nuff said
