dude, your gonna hate it here coming from australia, lolol. the best spot on long island to surf is anywhere in montauk (east end), especially a beach called Ditch Plains.  Any season but summer is good for surfing but wear at least a 5/4 wetsuit in winter... it gets freezing. the crowd factor is extremely high in the summer so try not to hit anyone. the only good parts of NY surfing is theres not really any dangerous waterlife and that the locals are very friendly. have fun here in NEWYORK
