I am a Ford guy thru and thru and was trained as a teen to dislike chevy's but I am 44 now and love all muscle cars and hate anything rice. Long story short I have watched this autocross video of yours nearly 50 times and have to say that Nova is one righteos sound bad ass Nova, I hope you got her fixed and running dude. Love the music and the sound of that exhaust.
dude nova are so tuff. lol i ran over a trailer with my nova and all it did was put a scrarch in the rear bumper. i have also pushed down a tree with it lmao
Did you see the front tires lock while the back tires kept rolling along? This demonstrates how auto designers were forced to program the proportioning valve - not unlike the camber deflections a car's frontend exhibits in turns: Both equal UNDERSTEER. Solution? Either install an adjustable PV, or limit the travel of your stock PVs pin to about 1/4 of its travel. FINAL TEST: you'll know when your PV is balanced properly when all 4 tires lock as you hit the brakes on a gravel road
NOT STOCK? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? CARS OF THE '60-'70S HAVE STEERING AND SUSPENSIONAL GEOMETRY DESIGNED TO FORCE CARS TO UNDERSTEER [PLOW] IN TURNS. IN ADDITION TO THAT THE PV IS ALSO MAL-DESIGNED TO BEHAVE AS SHOWN. [CorporateLawyer'sView]: IF THE CAR SLIDES HEAD-FIRST FROM A TURN IT'S "DRIVER ERROR." IF THAT CAR "FISH-TAILS" [OVERSTEERS] IT'S THE "FAULT" OF THE MANUFACTURER. KNOW HERE: THERE ARE ENGINEERED INTO THESE CARS, THREE DEVICES THAT FORCE UNDERSTEER CONDITIONS.
If there are aftermarket products that allow an autoist to alter his car's camber deflections (observed, when the tops of the front tires tip out and away, during turns) or devices that allow for the elimination of the HORRIBLE "roll understeer mechanism" (that forces the back axle to go off kilter - making "4-wheel alignments" a true scam), I'd love to see that seller's catalog. But tell me please, are you saying some racers employ braking systems that are sub-standard?
@thewackingtons you dont know much about these cars, their are plenty of sub frames that correct the geometry of the front end. the sub frame is the same as a first gen camaro. seriously go look around, it isn't hard at all to find one. although if you look for the first gen camaro it becomes alot easier.
shit he was lucky i had a 71 and was going like 2mph turning into an alley hit a paych of ice and slide into the corner of a church and put a big ol' v in the front of the car shoved the radiator into the solid fan and chewed it up bad before i could get it shut off. had to pull the core support out and find a new hood before i could drive it again. that sucked
@Gorgoroth969 i slid my 70 nova on some ice doing a slow turn at about 15 mpr and slammed into a curb so hard, it smashed my distributor to pieces.. found that out after fixing the tires first..The lady that had put in the new mailbox was mad, it was her frotn yard i ended up in...
He was already in second, actually the whole course he appeared to be in second, depending upon gearing, assuming this is a thk500 or t56 and a larger course, he likely used 2nd the whole time as first is such a low ratio to begin with. Looks like he let the clutch out way too hard, wheel spin, vehicle keeps pushing forward, locks wheel to the left, locks front brakes, doesn't take foot off break to allow the wheels to move in the direction away from the accident (big no no) boom
Dude you got the track all wet. Nothing like autocrossing a loaf of bread. Just a little hint for ya, the car will not turn with the brakes locked up.
It happens to the best drivers out there luckly his ego was hurt worse, that was a mistake doesn't mean he is a bad driver,I've done the same thing but I had a little less rear brake than I should of,hit the brakes while turning and just slid stright. Its hard to think in that situation but he might of saved it if he let off the brake and gas with the wheel still cut ans let it start to spin the floored it got the rear tires burning and turning it into some doughnuts.
Actually, now that I think about it, you are exactly right. Even if the throttle stuck, he could have let off the brake, input alot of left hand steering, and hopefully thought to apply emergency brake.
That certainly would have helped, yet, don't look away from the stark fact that ONLY the front wheels were locked, while the back wheels were not. This is a result of the FOUL-designed proportioning valve,, which renders the rear brakes virtually useless. Think not?Raise the rear of your 60s-80s car and let the rear wheels spin, then apply the brakes. Do the wheels (that will be under no load) lock right away? Nope. They'll slowly stop. Now imagine that car trying2 stop on the street

i have 72' nova yah at age 16 lol its got a stock 350 with major fixes for drag racing putting out 1200 horses with 350 shot zex nitrous cant wait to race again
Man that hits unfortunate but at least it happened tearing up the track and livin on the edge of traction. But i got to know, what displacement is your engine and how much horsepower is it putting out. Also what size are your rear tires and how wide are the rims?
Skip to 3:20 to get to the action!!

Stark testimony as to wider tires should go on the front. Nearly all US cars are designed to understeer.

nice to see an american muscle car being driven like this instead of seeing it idle on driveways or doing burnouts all the time.
