Good job dudes. This song isn't traditional though, it was written by Leadbelly or his actual name was "Huddie Leadbetter" He wrote all those good songs like "rock island line, goodnight irene, bring me a little water sylvie, pick a bale of cotton" and of course this one, along with many others. Unfortunately he died a long time ago, in the 50's or 60's.

Along with many great originals, Leadbelly knew most all of the local and cultural songs sung in the fields and to the children.

The midnight special, I hear, was a train that ran past a prison...

Theres more to the story, but I preached enough.

His two sons actually came out & jammed with him on one song!! I won`t tell you which one!! & hopefully they are with him on that leg of the tour!

It was a fantastic night of music!! He plays a few acoustic numbers, & many of the songs you`re hoping to hear!!

Canajian, don't get in trouble with that man. Ya'll did a fantastic job for sure. Love this song. It is a amazing that the guy who wrote this song also wrote Goodnight Irene. He wrote two very simple yet enduring songs. This on was written about a real prison in Houston. A train would come by the prison at midnight and the rumor by the prisoners was that if the Train's light shined on you, you would be released soon.
