I read in yesterday's Placer Herald that John Banks has filed a claim with the City of Rocklin claiming police conspiracy, tampering with evidence and malicious prosecution. Rocklin Police Chief Ron Lawrence has refused to release information about the internal investigation. Get ready City of Rocklin Police..your dirty little cat is out of the bag and I hope this department is exposed for what it is. Enough of the selective, malicious prosecution and Brown Shirted attitudes by Rocklin PD!

Rocklin police are idiots. I lived in Rocklin for nearly eight years. I was forced to move due to all the corruption. I lost everything I owned at the time and was living in motels. I thought the police were going to kill me. They are idiots and so is the Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner. They are a bunch of dangerous fools. They have a lot of technology but do not have the brains to use it. I remember calling for help and talking to dispatch for 20 minutes to send out an officer. FOOLS!

If you are being attacked should they wait until everyone is tired and then "let's talk.?" The problem here is not with the police. It is with a man who felt he could beat his girl and flaunt it in front of the police, and when confronted felt he was above the law and could resist. If he simply listened to the police NONE of this would have happened. This is not a video of an officer out of control, but someone trying to get someone to comply with a lawful order.
Another lowlife seeking to make a buck at the expense of the taxpayer! People making comments on events they know nothing about! The majority of people have only seen these 5min of video and know nothing about what happened before or during. When an officer seeks to take you into custody, get with the program. It looks to me Rocklin PD did everything they were supposed to do. They responded to a call about public safety, they witnessed a man pushing a woman (battery), they asked the man to step outside, he refused, they put him down and secured the scene (a intoxicated hostile crowd yelling obscenities). If the man had simply complied with the officers request and all the Johnny 2-cents had let the officers do their job, this wouldn't have escalated. It's being blown way out of proportion, good job PD

I'm 51 year old with no arrests and have lived in Rocklin for 12 years.There seems to be an ample amount of animosity between the police and the public. Talk to both adult and teenagers in Rocklin and the majority of them would say that the RPD has a negative, self-entitled, “us vs. the public” attitude.Rocklin PD seem to ignore the plight of drug abuse and home burglaries; instead they focus on pulling over citizens for minor traffic infractions. I agree!Rocklin Police cruise our town,ignoring traffic laws such as rolling through stop signs,not signaling lane changes and exceeding the speed limits.At the 4 way stop in my neighborhood, the police roll through the stop sign so many times that it has become a family bet if the cop is going to use his/her turn signals or come to a complete stop. Coming from someone who grew up in the Rocklin/Loomis/Roseville area...Rocklin PD are and always have been dicks. These are the cops that will pull you over to check for sobriety, get pissed when you're sober and then ignore you when you ask them directions. This happened to me. These are the guys who didn't measure up academically at Del Oro HS, Granite Bay HS Rocklin HS and go on to a decent college. So, they stayed local and became cops. True story.

We were thinking about petitioning for all cops to have a camera on them to tape their every move.. This was done to a county in Northern California.. Placer County should have cameras on ALL cops just like they have cameras everywhere for us! When cops and judges commit crimes they are just people, good... then let's police the police!
My props go to the man that tried to stop the beating! He was a good man for doing that and should be held with up most respect! There was a lot of people at least someone in Rocklin had the balls to STAND UP! if everyone stood up like this man did it would be different in Placer County! This is very sad what the Rocklin Police did but this is very typical of how they handle things and is the way most officers handle things in this city it has been going on for many years and they try and cover it up and in fact like to stalk people if they file a complaint against their department. They hide evidence and try to scare people and they ruin families and make up false reports and the list goes on just hope someday that the feds will look into them.
I agree-our neighbors son got into some juvenile trouble and the Rocklin PD treated their entire family like common criminals-constantly pulling over this man and his wife, writing bogus tickets, asking neighbors about the boy's behavior etc.etc. Once you are marked by the Rocklin PD, they will constantly harass you and your family. I hope this incident at the Mercedes Party opens up some eyes here in Rocklin and the police and district attorney are investigated for their rogue behavior.

@JusticeReformCo First of all there were other people there who witness the man pushing his girlfriend and resisting the police when they went to detain him. Second, it does not matter if other people saw him push or hit his girlfriend because once the police show up to investigate by law he has to cooperate if the police believe he is a suspect.

John, I feel for you as I've been in the same situation with the Rocklin police except that the only ones around were my two other friends. It was a long time ago back in the early 90's, no cell phone cameras back then. You did the right thing by not making a bad situation worse and resisting. When the police want you to go outside and talk about something, you don't refuse. When they try to arrest you, and you decide not to go along peacefully, guess what? They will BEAT YOU.

I was there but on the opposite side of where the person filming the video was...we could see everything in clear view. I'm not sure what happened to cause the altercation, but I saw him just laying there. He didn't seem to be resisting arrest, they tazzered him and hit him multiple times with the baton, while he just layed there. The whole time his head was under the fountain. Everyone was screaming for the cops to stop.

I don't see anything wrong with the content of the video. Everyone assumes that when a cop punches someone or hits them with a baton that it is bad. Cops are provided batons and training to use them for people that get out of hand. It may not look pretty but it is what we should expect. You can't put lipstick on a baton and make it cute. They have a tough job.

Mercedes of Rocklin is not responsible for the actions of Rocklin PD and I would hope that being a business in Rocklin they would stand up for what is right. The dealership is an inviting atmosphere with a great Bistro. I still can't believe that the police department felt justified in there actions. I stand by everything I said earlier and it was extreme excessive force.

A formal file needs to be made against the police department and a civil group needs to get a hold of the man beaten and file a civil suit asap. The girl was the aggressor. In no way did he get violent with her. I would resist guards and the police as well in the beginning if I was detained or handcuffed for something that wasnt my fault. Regardless of whether he resisted or was violent the facts remain the same... while he was handcuffed, tasered and laid out on the fountain helpless the officer on the right continued to beat him. Numerous people, both young and old, drunk and sober were shocked and horrified afterwards.
See this is how rumors start and people who did not actually see the events get started. The man laying on the ground was brutalized the man screaming at the cops to stop I believe is a long time friend and the couple in front were a married couple that is the family members of the man getting beat. The woman in question was already detained by the police when this video was taken. So people please stop posting rumors this is a horrible event that happened.

If the gentleman who got beat in this video sees these comments I wish you well and I seen that you were trying to walk away from the woman in question. I am happy to hear that she did not sign a false statement because it did seem like she was the aggressor. That was a very tramatic experience not only for the man getting beat but to witness. This was clear police brutality.

I seen the size of the guy and if he was resisting arrest there would of been a few officers lying on the ground. These gross exaggerations of the facts are disgusting. There was no knife no fight with the cops and if anything the gentleman was trying to walk away from the intoxicated woman.
This is what I heard. I didn't see a knife either, but this the information going around. Maybe when you go to the police department, you can view their official report of the incident (if possible)

I doubt they typed up a report, tried to get her to sign it, she said no, so they arrested her in that whole 15 seconds she was gone
Mind you several officers took this man to the ground tazzed him and beat him while he laid in water not moving. While everyone had there cameras out acting as if it were a freak show. From what I understand there was several of his family members there one of which is the GSM of Mercedes and the couple standing in front of this video asking the police to stop. I am a a in partial party that seen it from beginning to end that was not intoxicated at all. The gentleman was walking away from the lady who did in fact seem very intoxicated. As he was walking away from her the cops approached him without saying a word put there hands on him and were very aggressive in there manner. I stood right there, we were all NOT knowing what was happening, it happened so fast... however wrong the man was and deserving to be arrested, how does 6 Cops with flying Night Sticks justify that?? Rocklin police are idiots. I lived in Rocklin for nearly eight years. I was forced to move due to all the corruption. I lost everything I owned at the time and was living in motels. I thought the police were going to kill me. They are idiots and so is the Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner. They are a bunch of dangerous fools. They have a lot of technology but do not have the brains to use it. I remember calling for help and talking to dispatch for 20 minutes to send out an officer. FOOLS!

If you are being attacked should they wait until everyone is tired and then "let's talk.?" The problem here is not with the police. It is with a man who felt he could beat his girl and flaunt it in front of the police, and when confronted felt he was above the law and could resist. If he simply listened to the police NONE of this would have happened. This is not a video of an officer out of control, but someone trying to get someone to comply with a lawful order.

It looks to me Rocklin PD did everything they were supposed to do. They responded to a call about public safety, they witnessed a man pushing a woman (battery), they asked the man to step outside, he refused, they put him down and secured the scene (a intoxicated hostile crowd yelling obscenities). If the man had simply complied with the officers request and all the Johnny 2-cents had let the officers do their job, this wouldn't have escalated. I'm not sure how much he may have resisted prior to seeing the incident. But from the angle I was standing he didn't appear to be once down. I will say my friends and I commented on how we didnt think it was necessary for the rpd to walk in to the even with batons out, especially for a broken elevator.

I'm 51 year old with no arrests and have lived in Rocklin for 12 years.There seems to be an ample amount of animosity between the police and the public. Talk to both adult and teenagers in Rocklin and the majority of them would say that the RPD has a negative, self-entitled, “us vs. the public” attitude.Rocklin PD seem to ignore the plight of drug abuse and home burglaries; instead they focus on pulling over citizens for minor traffic infractions. Coming from someone who grew up in the Rocklin/Loomis/Roseville area...Rocklin PD are and always have been dicks. These are the cops that will pull you over to check for sobriety, get pissed when you're sober and then ignore you when you ask them directions. This happened to me. These are the guys who didn't measure up academically at Del Oro HS, Granite Bay HS Rocklin HS and go on to a decent college. So, they stayed local and became cops. True story.

This is very sad what the Rocklin Police did but this is very typical of how they handle things and is the way most officers handle things in this city it has been going on for many years and they try and cover it up and in fact like to stalk people if they file a complaint against their department. I agree-our neighbors son got into some juvenile trouble and the Rocklin PD treated their entire family like common criminals-constantly pulling over this man and his wife, writing bogus tickets, asking neighbors about the boy's behavior etc.etc. Once you are marked by the Rocklin PD, they will constantly harass you and your family. John, I feel for you as I've been in the same situation with the Rocklin police except that the only ones around were my two other friends. It was a long time ago back in the early 90's, no cell phone cameras back then. You did the right thing by not making a bad situation worse and resisting. I'm glad that at least the attitudes out there in Rocklin have changed. Luckily John, you had some good folks around.

I was there but on the opposite side of where the person filming the video was...we could see everything in clear view. I'm not sure what happened to cause the altercation, but I saw him just laying there. He didn't seem to be resisting arrest, they tazzered him and hit him multiple times with the baton, while he just layed there. The whole time his head was under the fountain. Everyone was screaming for the cops to stop.

I don't see anything wrong with the content of the video. Everyone assumes that when a cop punches someone or hits them with a baton that it is bad. Cops are provided batons and training to use them for people that get out of hand. It may not look pretty but it is what we should expect. You can't put lipstick on a baton and make it cute. They have a tough job.

Mercedes of Rocklin is not responsible for the actions of Rocklin PD and I would hope that being a business in Rocklin they would stand up for what is right. The dealership is an inviting atmosphere with a great Bistro. I still can't believe that the police department felt justified in there actions. I stand by everything I said earlier and it was extreme excessive force.

A formal file needs to be made against the police department and a civil group needs to get a hold of the man beaten and file a civil suit asap. The girl was the aggressor. In no way did he get violent with her. I would resist guards and the police as well in the beginning if I was detained or handcuffed for something that wasnt my fault. Regardless of whether he resisted or was violent the facts remain the same... while he was handcuffed, tasered and laid out on the fountain helpless the officer on the right continued to beat him. Numerous people, both young and old, drunk and sober were shocked and horrified afterwards.

The man laying on the ground was brutalized the man screaming at the cops to stop I believe is a long time friend and the couple in front were a married couple that is the family members of the man getting beat. If the gentleman who got beat in this video sees these comments I wish you well and I seen that you were trying to walk away from the woman in question. I am happy to hear that she did not sign a false statement because it did seem like she was the aggressor. That was a very tramatic experience not only for the man getting beat but to witness. @travelinQltr Your "sister" was standing there with her drink trying to talk to the cops or someone and they asked her to step back 5 or 6 times. She was only off screen for 15 seconds. I doubt they typed up a report, tried to get her to sign it, she said no, so they arrested her in that whole 15 seconds she was gone

Mind you several officers took this man to the ground tazzed him and beat him while he laid in water not moving. While everyone had there cameras out acting as if it were a freak show. From what I understand there was several of his family members there one of which is the GSM of Mercedes and the couple standing in front of this video asking the police to stop. I hope people come forward and do not sit idle for this was a gross display from the police department.

I am a a in partial party that seen it from beginning to end that was not intoxicated at all. The gentleman was walking away from the lady who did in fact seem very intoxicated. As he was walking away from her the cops approached him without saying a word put there hands on him and were very aggressive in there manner. I question the fact that if the gentleman were white if the police would have proceeded that way.

I do think that the police officers took an aggressive stance with Mr. Banks. He is a little under 6 foot but has a massive build. I was very close to the incident the police did not speak with him they immediately put there hands on him. On the news they said they asked him to step outside not true they wanted to cuff him right away. I stood right there, we were all NOT knowing what was happening, it happened so fast... however wrong the man was and deserving to be arrested, how does 6 Cops with flying Night Sticks justify that?? Obviously WRONG to me and several others, enough for the man to try to JUMP IN and himself almost be arrested. 6 to 1 odds in any book is wrong.
