I stumbled upon this dungeon on my way to another quest and was kicking myself when I ran into the deathoverlord, somehow beat him. Then I face this guy and....he moves to the side of the wall so I can poke my head out and hit him with a fireball. He stayed still the entire fight, was easy as hell just took a while.
I got sooo lucky in this fight. It was my 1st dragon priest. As I went to the word wall, he rose from his crypt behind my back, but I had Lydia and a flame atronach w/ me. Lydia managed to force him to a corner, and dualcasting firebolt staggered him. So I just timed my own spells while Lydia and my atronach beat on him, he died w/o doing a single attack!
Theres an easyer way to do this. Do the quest to do with the demonic dog. make him follow you. do this quest the dog will get attacked by the preist. But the dog can never die. So you take no damage and ur free to attack with whataever u want.
@goonrush The blacksmith in falkreath. tell him you'll find his dog. then sim ply go outside the town gate and he will appear along the road with a marker above his head. Do his quest to find his master. Then do his masters quest. but instead of doing his masters quest just take the dog anywhere you want and he will block everything and never die!!!
That ice astronach never showed up in my fight. I spun around the stone pillar and healed and slashed him and then repeated. Maybe its the higher difficulties.
@mwong666 Could be your build actually mwong. I tried to take him on with magic on an alt at a lower level than I fought him here and I found that sticking to the wall didn't even work, he summoned his ice dude every time I even tried to hit him with spells.
@KeystoneBronx I started to experience the same thing here, the atronach showed up no matter what: but I found that when I initiated the fight with a weapon equipped instead of magic, it solved the problem. I was still able to switch to magic after the fight had started.
ROLF well done, mr freeze was a nice touch as half the guards in skyrim use his voice. are there any other items besides necklaces that give price reduction?
@KeystoneBronx this mask combined with a 12% necklace gives me a total of 32% discounts, i wish id know about this mask earlier, would have saved me lots of gold.
@lendial I was just relieved to get rid of the fucking terrible two horned goat helmet that the protagonist is always wearing in the promotionals. That nearly put me off buying the game, it's terrible looking. Then I found Volsung and all was well in the world. I actually found Volsung by pure chance, I was trying to work out how the hell you get inside Volskygge and ended up completing half of it from the wrong entrance backwards and then had to go back out, down the mountain and in the front.
@KeystoneBronx Arch-mage robes with a dragon priest looks awesome until your face disappear, but even then its still pretty cool looking compared to most of the helms in the game. i really wish these priests re spawned because their one of the more enjoyable and challenging fights in the game.
@lendial Thieves Guild hood from the entire outfit gives you more price reduction. It upgrades the further you get into the guild, but I'm not finished so I don't know what the max is on it. So far mine is at 15%. If you don't know where it is, it's in Riften. Just ask around.
@EnragedArts That's about what level I was when I fought him the first time (for this video). He's actually worse the higher you go in level so it's best to fight him as early as possible. I fought him on my second character at like 16 and found him MUCH harder, he seemed to have a lot more health.
just got this mask, so epic. he ended up running down the stairs and he couldn't hit me with his ice spells so i just arrowed him down, it took a few tries though. but hes good for training your archery up, thats for sure :P
@aRandomNzer I loved the headpiece so much because I finally got rid of that fucking TERRIBLE goathead helmet that the main character wears in all the promotional screenshots. It looks so bad. Volsung is such a fucking badass facepiece in comparison, especially with the free cloth hood you get with it.
@KeystoneBronx yeah its such a badass mask, and the hood just makes it more epic. plus the armour rating on it is crazy! i'm hoping to collect all the masks
@FlackMonkey I had a similar experience with the big dude at the back of the Volskygge Passages. I came in the back door instead of going up through Volskygge into the Passages as the developers intended, which meant I appeared behind the big dude's throne instead of in front of him. He ended up repeatedly running on the spot against the arm of his chair trying to get to me and I just arrowed him down. XD
@Gamerkid58 I am pretty sure I showed him dying at the end of the video, so he's not that unkillable, and there's guys below saying my advice works, so don't give up! The important thing is strafing while hugging the wall. If you leave the wall he'll summon an ice guardian who will kill you in 2-3 hits and if you take 2-3 hits from Volsung's bolts you'll also die. You need to be alert here and always moving. One bolt slows you, two nearly kills you, a 3rd-4th usually seal the deal.
Hes not necessarily the first Dragon Priest, i fought a different one before Volsung. Plus they arent all that hard, idk how you could struggle with them....
@xxxfatalityxxx1995 In terms of following quests and normal game flow he will be the first priest for most, but if you are just out wandering Skyrim then I can understand you running into other ones. Are they unique or do they all fight the same as Volsung?
@KeystoneBronx Well ive fought mine just from asking the Greybeards where words of power are. Ive only killed 2, and yes they are somewhat unique. They use different spells, and each one drops a special mask named after them.
@KeystoneBronx I ran into a few others waaay before I even learned to shout because I wanted to level up a bit for the main quest. That and the side quests were too fun. xD But yeah, I never really fought any of them because I wasn't strong enough, but they all seemed pretty much the same, especially on the ice factor.
@ianjosephlaw Yeah I found he can still summon his ice dude even when wall hugging but it seemed to happen more commonly if you were over to the right of the wall (when facing him). I never had a problem when over on the left, which is where I eventually killed him from after a couple of death attempts.
@sharkknuckle Yeah I got proper smashed myself until I stumbled on this. I couldn't figure out how to deal with him AND the ice guardian at the same time as my companion, the archer from Riverwood, is USELESS in big fights so I ended up on my own pretty much. It was just through pure fear and pulling back from him while strafing that I discovered he doesn't summon his ice guardian if you hug the wall.
