  • Looks like a pretty small net when you are targeting muskies as you appear to be. You have to have the proper equipment if you are muskie fishing. Also, net the fish when it is played out at the side of the boat rather than narrating for the camera. This prolongs the time the fish has to struggle.

  • Invest in a "Bump Board" they will save you much time and a fishes life!

  • July in warm water, not good for the fish

  • Thanks for killing her. Thanx

  • Fish probably did die, should have kept it,,, if you're true in what you said, about it swimming away energetically, than cool, if not, that sucks, that fish needs to be alive and able to breed..... The more muskie we have the better.... Muskie are the best, and most sought after fresh water fish there is, I hope that fish lived.....

  • hey do u know any setting techniques for muskies or any tech for setting the hook when a muskie bites, they seem to get off my hooks when i get bites

  • @sengx set the hook as hard as you can, remember your hook has to go through bone.

  • Do all you tree huggers cry when you run over a deer too ?

  • @Topdog9692 Yeah I probably would because both myself and my car would most likely be pretty fucked up. That is different though. The reason everyone is so upset with poor fish handling especially with muskies, is that they are the top predator in their food chain and as such there are fewer of them and even less when it comes to big fish like this.

  • What a fish!!!

  • Very nice fish that you caught. A few pointers though. If you are going out targeting muskies, please be prepared.

-Get yourself a good pen net. Frabill, beckman, and stow-master make some great pen nets. The one you have is far to small and will hurt the fish.

    -Hook cutters.

-Bump board measuring device. Very quick and accurate.

All this helps in the a quick CPR

    Cory

  • You shouldn't just let a musky lie in the bottom of the boat, that can take the slime off and lead to infection, measure the fish at the side of the boat and keep it out of the water as little as possible

  • Good intentions, but obviously the lack of experience combined with ignorance killed that girl... kinda sad...

  • I agree you should of kept in net before bringing out take a quick pic or video, and release it especially if the water temp is high.

  • dude that thing is huge

  • thats what she said

  • It really wouldn't surprise me if the reason the full release wasnt in the video was because the fish died. I see videos on here like this all the time and it makes me sick!!!! PATHETIC!!

  • you were pinching the tail in the video

  • Killed that fish; great job!!!!!!!!

  • wow 52!! see that 52!! wow

  • wow this video sure brought out all the idiot comments, he did do a horrible release, but damn news flash for yall-- cpr is not a religion. And why even compare northern fishing to muskies. Northerns are tougher by far and the management is not at all necessary. they are an oversized panfish---management-wise and catchability. I think i made that word up but i like it.

  • i think we'll need a bigger net!

  • HOLY CRAP! those things are huge when there at the top of the water there!

  • FFS get your self an unhooking mat to place the fish on. Or why not buy the ET Original Sladle. Put the fish first. Your a noddy !!

  • not the kind of video I would be proud of. Wow, what poor CPR, you might as well of just killed the poor fish. Oh yeah, if you would have put your foot between the fish and tape measure you might have gained another inch or 2. what a waste of a nice fish!!

  • this guy's definitely leading the pack in

the current MORON-A-THON!my favorite part is where he says "you see that!", "you see that".

i'm not even going to comment on your CPR technique since evryone else covered that thoroughly.

and the walmart net comment was hilarious.

there are so many idiots ruining this sport with dead fish to show.here's a good example of that.musky don, go shoot yourself in the face with a shit pistol and put that on you tube. it would be far more entertaining...

  • First of all MUSKY DON... why dont you get rid of that crappie net and get yourself a real one.

Then, you should probably learn how to handle a fish so you dont kill any more flopping around on the bottom of your boat.

It amazes me the amount of numb-nuts out there who stumble upon big musky and actually land them, only to manhandle them, and ultimately kill them.

    Good Job

  • You should call yourself MuskyDon't!!!

  • God that was horrible.. I'm not a muskie fanatic that thinks all muskies are going to survive being caught, but that fish was handled so poorly its not even funny.. First of all what is with the frickin' Wal-Mart net. If you're fishing muskies you owe it the fish to get a descent net. Secondly, why would you lay it on the floor of the boat next to the gas tank? Gas is the worst for the fish. I know they are overwhelming when caught, but use some common sense..

  • pikeman,

this is the musky you said was dead, just letting you know that i am fine and you are an R-tard

  • I would have chopped that fish up and eaten it. They are the prime rib of fish, some good eats.

  • A 50 inch musky is gonna be like over 20 years old. I'm not sure if eating it would be such a good idea.

  • umm how do u figure that it would be over 20 years old do u know how fast muskys grow, if u dont and im pretty sure you dont they grow 5-8" a year and theire born at 5-6" long so its pbly a 7 year old

  • your not very smart

53 inches is under 5 feet

they are born teh size of a regular northern and just grow faster

  • and whats the size of the regular northern smart ass

  • a regular BABY northern

  • and that is what cause you seem to know the leignths of fish prety we

  • definately not 5-6 feet

  • baby muskys are around 1 inch long by the way...don't know where you saw they were 5-6 inches. There's plenty of baby musky's in my lake, so I see some all the time.

  • Must agree with most of the comments here. That is a dead fish. Yes, the intentions were good, at least they tried to release it. But the technique was terrible. Intentions do NOT save fish, good handling techniques do. Would suggest you look into a copy of Esox Angler magazine. Pete Maina does a great column on proper C&R in every issue. Man, too bad about that muskie.....

  • what a beautiful monster killed you guys really dont have a lot of experiance do you

  • The more I see this video the more I want to beat this guy up!!!

  • Way to go, post this video for everyone to see you killing a musky, its a joke! The good thing is you letting it go the birds and turtles will have a field day with the dead fish, way to help out the birds and turtles, what a loser

  • Idiots. Shut up and net/cradle the fish as fast as possible once boat side and played out. Don't put the fish on the bottom of the boat to measure. Measure in water in rubber coated net or cradle then quick photo and release.

Hope you don't do this all the time you are likely killing fish.

  • A 72" pike? riiiiiiight.

  • dude thats a big fish. we dont have muskie in my lake we have some 6ft pike pit thats about it

  • Nice fish. I recommend a cradle and lip grip for handling measuring and weighing big fish, that net will kill a fish if it thrashes around. A cradle does wonders for keeping them in the water, that was way too long out of the water for a big fish

  • Nice musky. We don have muskys in sweden but we have big pikes.

  • you stupid retards. measure it in the water. you have no clue how to measure a fish either. You measure it to the FORK of the tail, not the very tip of the tail. MEASURE IT IN THE WATER NEXT TIME. COMMON SENSE.

  • You sound pretty excited.. 52 52 52, congradulations you probably killed it you jerk, and whoever said "fry it up" you should be fried up.

  • what weight?, 10 kg?

  • Im sure the fish is fine. And whoever eats a muskie should go to hell. I hate those bastards who kill fish just to have a picture taken. Its a shame. Eat a few walleye, throw the rest back. Anything you arent going to eat, release. The fishing in some lakes has gone down dramaticly because of idiots. Im 13 and caught my first muskie, 48 inches, 2 years ago, and am happy to say i released it. :)

  • im 14 and caught plenty of muskies..biggest is 50". This guy is so dumb!! that was probably the first muskie he has ever caught

  • This jealous bitter MuskieMadness moron should be ignored..Says he is 14 but his profile says 21...He left a nasty message on my video also. Nice fish...Many more.

    Norm

  • diehardjetsfan1 in your gay video if your the 1 holding the muskies ur a pussy. u hold them up so far from ur body so it looks huge. u try to showoff ur fish. and u shouldnt be proud of this guy. since ur the muskie expert and think ur pro u should know thats not how u handle a fish! so when u learn how to muskie fish tlak to me.

  • Muskiemadness...Your just a very bitter jealous jackass...end of story ...Go get a life loser boy

  • ooooooo good 1 buddy..u think im jealous of this guy come on! Everyone knows that this guy doesnt know what the hell hes doing. so u can go catch ur little 35" and make em look liek there 45".

  • "muskydon" im going out for muskie on the 5th (in like 2 days) any words of advice?

  • OMFG biggest muskie ive ever seen.

    SAVE THE MUSKIE

    SCREW THOSE GOD DAMN PIKE

  • That fish died for sure. It wasn't even moving in the boat. I notice there was no footage of the fish actually swimming away. It's a shame but it has happened to all of us esp. in the summer.

  • Fry 'em up for breakfast!!

  • Its ashame that a muskie that big died. Those ppl suck at releasing fish. CATCH AND RELEASE!!

    Minnesota MUskie

  • catch and release the fish that you decide not to eat

  • you dont eat muskie!! Is that what u do or somting?

  • if I feel like it... why, do you worship them or something?

  • no i dont worship them...its hard enough to catch them as it is so i want a few more alive

  • 100% agree with you i also live in MN i just caught a 49" musky on Eagle lake in MAple grove and it only tooke me like 40 seconds to unhook get a pic and release idk why they took so long

  • yea see thats how long it should take 45 sec to 1 minute tops! thats a nice fish. I've never fished eagle lake before but heard about it. you shoudl send me a picture of it.

  • I agree with MH620..that was horrible..and you shouldnt lay the muskie on the bottom of THE BOAT! it looks like your unexperienced! but it was a nice fish

  • You say the fish was out of the water less than 2 minutes? Can you hold your breath for 2 minutes..especially after extremely exhausting yourself? The fish can't either. Try running a 100yd sprint and when you get done, hold you're breath. Thats what the fish goes thru when you take them out of water. It's a fish, yes, but also a valuable resource, and educating people on how to handle these awesome fish will go a long way in ensuring this resource is abundunt for all.

  • what a nice musky! I wouldn't keep a musky either...they're soley a "sport" fish imo. Pike on the other hand are tough tough fish, but I handle em gently anyway. The world record(s) are very close to where I live. The 62" caught way back when is only a short distance from here and the 72" 105lb musky that wasn't caught but found dead is also about 40 mins from here. A friend and I are gonna be goin for em come season opening.

  • delayed mortality is a factor no matter how well you release a ski.Could have been done better, but at least

they did let her go.If that was warm water,Id say its

    in trouble.Good catch though.

  • Ohhh one more thing. How come you never filmed the muskie actually swimming away? All i see is a muskie in alot of distress. Hence on its side and not upright. Not that the beautiful creature probably lived anyway. Like i allready said be better prepared next time, And so some reading because its obvious you have no clue.

  • so real

  • That fish never lived, would been better off you just whack it and made a mount.

  • you never know if it did or not. you were'nt there.

  • The guy yacking about slime probably has an 'unfriendly' Lund. Lol!

Wet your hands when handling fish. Dry hands and gloves will remove its protective mucous (slime) coating and scales. These protective layers help prevent infection by waterborne disease. Do not beach a fish or let it flop around the deck of the boat.

& no i am not a guy. I agree if you are going to fish for these beautiful creatures be better prepared.

  • Definately amatuer hour! They don't have the right equpiment to handle a musky of any size and to top it off lay the fish on the bottom of the boat. Don't fish for muskies if you are not prepared to properly handle and release them.

  • Nice fish! Your boat looks like a Whaler (grew up around those in RI). Very fish friendly bottom. The guy yacking about slime probably has an 'unfriendly' Lund. Lol! I commend you for releasing her and giving her a 'chance' to become a record. I've never kept a Musky (yet). Have they all survived? Doubt it. Every catch, fight, hook situation, etc., is different. Anyone releasing a monster is to be commended in my book. Sounds like you had a good trip.

  • didnt seem quickly measurerd to me

  • im suprised it lived

  • STFU.ITS A MUSKY

  • Why did you bother releasing it. It's dead now. Obviously you tried to catch it but had no net..you didn't unhook the fish in the water...you laid it on the bottom of your boat...all the protective slime is now off the fish..you probably vertically held it for a picture and it was out of the water for several minutes. Get a clue...sad to see such a beautiful fish treated like that.

  • The fish was out of the water for less than two minutes. 1 snapshot then back in the water. I measured the fish 'on the boat' rather than holding her so as to not put strain on the fish. Fish was hand grabbed when realised net was too small. Swam away fine. Also caught a 46, a 43.5, 40, and a couple smaller on the same trip. All released - MINIMAL time out of the water. Get a clue yourself.

  • that was a horrible release!! you dont know wut your doing..that was out for at least 4 min

  • its just a fish. get a life.

  • @Steussie

ACTUALLY... Muskie are an extremely aggressive preditor. When they are caught, they fight until they are absolutely exhausted as it is not natural for them to be chased and have to swim for extended periods of time. That is why after catching a large musky like this one they look "dead" as you put. This angler knows the difference between "worn out" and "dead", and he is taking time to revive it. My muskie took over 30 minutes to revive and swim away on her own power.
