Information is not consciousness but consciousness does require information. The hard problem is why subjective consciousness (individual consciousness) arises the way it does. Its the absolute frontier and is not known. What Hagelin is saying is that the 'experience' of consciousness will tell you far more than trying to find it under a metaphorical microscope and despite the slightly distasteful new age presentation, he has definitely paid his scientific dues.

The level of existence that he refers to when he talks about the 'universal ocean of consciousness' is an order of magnitude lower than the nucleus of the atom - Trillions of times smaller (the Planck scale). At this level, in order for the maths to work, you have to think in terms of waves of vibration (string theory). The collapse of this wave function demonstrates properties which would equate to awareness (observer effect).

The kind of meditation John Hagelin is talking about is not that kind but the simplest form that requires no effort but naturally allows you to minimize the thought process until you transcend all the thoughts and experience the source of thought itself. I would describe a unified field as the answer to the question "What is the substance a particle is waving in?" Whatever this substance is, depending on how it waves gives rise to difference particles.

He is one of the leading authorities on particle physics, unification, and consciousness.

The hard problem is why subjective consciousness (individual consciousness) arises the way it does. Its the absolute frontier and is not known. What Hagelin is saying is that the 'experience' of consciousness will tell you far more than trying to find it under a metaphorical microscope and despite the slightly distasteful new age presentation, he has definitely paid his scientific dues.

For one, he talks as though what he is saying is true instead of admitting that it is just a cool theory. To say we all share this consciousness and that the base of the universe is pure intelligence sounds cool but anyone who thinks he is talking beautifully is stupid. The level of existence that he refers to when he talks about the 'universal ocean of consciousness' is an order of magnitude lower than the nucleus of the atom - Trillions of times smaller (the Planck scale). At this level, in order for the maths to work, you have to think in terms of waves of vibration (string theory). The collapse of this wave function demonstrates properties which would equate to awareness (observer effect).

It seems counter intuitive but the implication is that our own 'consciousness' is very much bound up with the 'stuff' of existence.

The kind of meditation John Hagelin is talking about is not that kind but the simplest form that requires no effort but naturally allows you to minimize the thought process until you transcend all the thoughts and experience the source of thought itself. If the mentally ill individuals can experience that fundament level of stillness then they would be cured of their mental illnesses.

I would describe a unified field as the answer to the question "What is the substance a particle is waving in?" Whatever this substance is, depending on how it waves gives rise to difference particles.
String theory is not a Unified Field Theory though since there is no unified field in string theory. String theory says the fundamental unit is a string, not a field of potentiality.

Also, he graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth then got masters and his PH.D. is from Harvard, has published over 80 articles, 20 of which are considered "core" articles relating to unification theory, particle physics, and consciousness studies. He is one of the leading authorities on particle physics, unification, and consciousness.

unlike insane cult pedo suit here I actually have understanding of some of the spiritual and the key thing by which I know he is a mindless liar is that the spiritual does not reside in the physical and that most certainly include the planck scale. nor is it about quantum entanglement or other such romanticized physics. the spiritual is a domain that the physical cannot touch same as a computer game character cannot move your chair.

two weeks ago i was an athiest, i began to feel myself expearencing spirit feelings, i began to get thoughts of which i never thought of before. one night i dreamt i was taken on a guided tour of not only my inner self but the whole universe and realised how its conected . He seems to know what he is talking about, unfortunately, he provides no evidence for his assertions that consciousness is related to the universe in a fundamental way. If everything is conscious that means rocks are conscious, but what are rocks conscious of, and what good is consciousness if there is nothing to be conscious of.

@dimebag1184 good question, a rock has the consciousness of a rock, therefore a rock only knows how to be a rock. A rock does not need to be aware of its surroundings unlike, for instance, humans.

As much as I like Dr. Hagelin explanation, I must remark on the fact that this Field was ALWAYS here; before religion or science. It did not need to be discovered or found. It's Here and always has been. When we go within; it is not a religious or scientific experience; but an expansive journey.
