I think it was very brave of Verdi to choose a Biblical theme for an opera. It was coincidence that the music of such happen to turn out to be fantastic. It speaks to the genious of Verdi how starved audices seem to be when it comes to Nabucco. Although not as often performed as Traviata or Trovatore, it nontheless meets our expectations in a cathartic experience that makes the audience leave the theatre almost "fly[ing] on golden wings."
