However, in the end it will matter little James has the vocals and creativity (each week he brain stormed his performances) to last for years and years in music. I am older (40) but not stuck in the 80's. Music today is wearing thin (over all same stuff for 10-15 years) and sells are way down. People want something different and James will appeal to many. Good (Big) vocals in Hard Rock has not happened in 15 plus years.

I think James was voted off at #4 because he was as good in his first big performance as his last (eventho IMHO, his last night was truly amazing). So, there wasn't the 'surprise' factor that some of the other contestants had near the end, when two in particular, actually started to sing well. So they got attention and momentum rather than James. But, like the true artist he is, James was this good 90% of the time. Even Jimmy Iovine said he gave James mostly 9s & 10s. JD-truly a great performer.
I swore to myself that I wouldnt watch American Idol agian after Crystal Bowersox didnt win & That lee whatever his name is did.. But i gave it another chance when I saw that Stephen Tyler was a judge... I`m glad I did because he is the best musician in the world.. Better than ANY musician I know.. James has TRUE talent & I loove it.! It comes from his soul & it isnt autotuned crap.. James is the best & allways will be.. He will be popular no matter what... @shwonsh Agreed country isn't a challenging genre so bucket loads of talent isn't needed to be a successful country artist. Hard rock & metal is a different story, you have to be an amazing vocalist. Only opera singers can compete with singers like Halford, Bach & Dickenson.
If this show wasn't rigged by the teeny bopper girls, rock woulda stole the show this year, and he woulda won. But Scotty Mcreery who can only sing one type of music in that Josh Turner impersonation voice won. I don't understand the mentality of people. He was easily the best one on there this year.

Adam Lambert and James Durbin are very similar and also extremely different.
They both have similar ranges although I think James can sing higher. But James has the rocker edge in his voice that Gene Simmons spoke of when talking of Adam.

In this performance Durbin takes the vocals from the pentatonics and moves them to the Dorian mode like most pop songs. He flashes devil horns and waves his left arm in circles. His act is full of cheesy 80s cliches and moves he got from the video for this song, like he did ten minutes of research on the genre. It's like a Disney Channel parody.
@555980 Well, theyre encouraged to change up the melody . As for understanding the music, Im sure he's quite familiar with the original version of the song, as are many others. It was one of many commercial tunes Priest cranked out. It's not like he was singing one of Priest's heavier tunes which werent as radio friendly (eg. Exciter, Delivering the goods...). Anyway, Ive done this tune in several cover bands in the earlier 80s and woulda loved having someone like James fronting my band.

I was rooting for him and casey... When i saw casey get voted off, i was like.. James has got this in the bag.. However, when he got voted off, I was like wtf ? fuck this till next season! I think James was voted off at #4 because he was as good in his first big performance as his last (eventho IMHO, his last night was truly amazing). So, there wasn't the 'surprise' factor that some of the other contestants had near the end, when two in particular, actually started to sing well. So they got attention and momentum rather than James. But, like the true artist he is, James was this good 90% of the time. Even Jimmy Iovine said he gave James mostly 9s & 10s. JD-truly a great performer.

I swore to myself that I wouldnt watch American Idol agian after Crystal Bowersox didnt win & That lee whatever his name is did.. But i gave it another chance when I saw that Stephen Tyler was a judge... I`m glad I did because he is the best musician in the world.. Better than ANY musician I know.. James has TRUE talent & I loove it.! It comes from his soul & it isnt autotuned crap.. James is the best & allways will be.. He will be popular no matter what... It may take a while but itll happen <3

@shwonsh Agreed country isn't a challenging genre so bucket loads of talent isn't needed to be a successful country artist. Hard rock & metal is a different story, you have to be an amazing vocalist. Only opera singers can compete with singers like Halford, Bach & Dickenson.

If this show wasn't rigged by the teeny bopper girls, rock woulda stole the show this year, and he woulda won. But Scotty Mcreery who can only sing one type of music in that Josh Turner impersonation voice won. I don't understand the mentality of people. He was easily the best one on there this year.
The Lambert comparisons are old, too. James has Glambert beat all to hell.

I din´t like James before this performance.. but he sang this song SOOO FREAKING GREAT , that I started thinking he deserved to win.. it´s a shame he didn´t , after his performance I looked it up on youtube and played it a million times xD ... and .. he got recognition even from Judas Priest themselves.. so he got his REAL BIG PRIZE after all :) he is just great!

Adam Lambert and James Durbin are very similar and also extremely different.
They both have similar ranges although I think James can sing higher. But James has the rocker edge in his voice that Gene Simmons spoke of when talking of Adam.

@TheOmegadrummer Aw man, I don't want to get into a flamewar, so just want to say: I've never heard of this guy before, and I'm a Judas Priest fan.
In this performance Durbin takes the vocals from the pentatonics and moves them to the Dorian mode like most pop songs. He flashes devil horns and waves his left arm in circles. His act is full of cheesy 80s cliches and moves he got from the video for this song, like he did ten minutes of research on the genre. It's like a Disney Channel parody.

@555980 Well, theyre encouraged to change up the melody . As for understanding the music, Im sure he's quite familiar with the original version of the song, as are many others. It was one of many commercial tunes Priest cranked out. It's not like he was singing one of Priest's heavier tunes which werent as radio friendly (eg. Exciter, Delivering the goods...). Anyway, Ive done this tune in several cover bands in the earlier 80s and woulda loved having someone like James fronting my band.

First of all, Adam is fucking pop rock/electronica (those are his actual genre types), and James has his rock/metal thing going on. Fuck staying in tune...at least James was the most interesting on Idol this season. The other contestants were pack-mules compared to him. James is going beyond and breaking the rules, and that's what you gotta do if you wanna rock.

Adam Lambert can't carry the mike for James. Adam was dust in the wind. The judges can blame America all they want, when they wasted their vote saving Casey, they trashed the competition. I truly think that's a ploy so the real responsibility is off their shoulders and they can pass the buck that it's America that is voting wrong. When this guy hits the circuit, he will draw crowds. What a rockin GREAT show he'd be in a small venue.
