She's so cute! My daughter wants one now! Lol Do you think she nudges for a little while right after as a way of cleaning her snout and mouth off after eating?
Her hair looks so shiny! I love the way she eats so fast and then suddenly takes her time to softly drink the water! Gorgeous little pig you have there :)
Her hair looks so shiny! I love the way she eats so fast and then suddenly takes her time to softly drink the water! Gorgeous little pig you have there :)
my gf also wants a pig and i'm always saying no but now that i see this i might change my mind but i have one question for you, does she poop on the floor or can you make a pig decent like a cat in a box or let the pig outside ?
Dude, did it ever occur to you that she is "nudging" the blanket because she wants more food? This makes sense since what you refer to as nudging is how pigs search for food in the wild. You also said she does this when she wants something. She also just spent five minutes looking for more food around the bowl. I'm no pig expert but...
I LOVED your video. I liked how you explained some of Mellie-Sue's actions. My pig Fiona is the same way with her food. She drinks her water AFTER eating. She actually slurps her water. Its hilarious. She roots around in her blankys a lot as well. They are a joy to have around. Thanks for posting!
Okay, now here's an important question for ya...how big is she right now at this moment in time? I've heard breeders say their pigs don't grow above 40 pounds...and then I hear other breeders saying that's a myth. Quite frustrating.
she is so sweet... :) and she will be much more to love when in 5 years time she'll get as big as Labrador dog...no more sitting on your lap... and it lives up to 30 YEARS
BEFORE you go and buy a new baby pig go first to pig sanctuary(it is like a home for homeless pigs) and look at grownup pigs to get an idea what to expect...
beside you may find there one or two unwanted, sad darlings that will be as good to adopt as buy new one.
I had rats for awhile, who get a bad rep for being dirty as well, and I thought they ate crazy. Mellie-Sue seems like a total sweetheart, when she uses the litter box does she roll around in it or anything? Or is is a in-and-out process?
i love this guy, he's SO sweet! an ideal pet owner :) i love love love pigs and i plan to get one of these guys as soon as i have the means. they are very very smart! thanks 4 posting this great video, Mellie Sue is ADORABLE!
my teacup pig will not eat dry food i have to put her food with water and the vet told me that cat food is not good for them that it makes them complicated but they do like dum dum suckers u just have to hold the stick for them she is funny she does the same thing with the bed to i cant figure it out and she has learned to climb baby gates as well very smart animals
How long did you train it to use the litter box? Did she use it out of instinct? I have a litter box that my cat uses, and I want a pig. It's great to know a piggy can use a litter box. That's hilarious!
She's too cute for words! I love pigs. Now, what kind of food are you giving her? Pigs are known to eat, well, everything, so would it be safe to assume if I got a pig, they'd go and eat the food that's left out for my cat? Lmao!
She has to have pig feed. One time I got horse feed and her hair fell out. Also the special formula gives them the minerals they need for strong legs. Otherwise she is happy to eat whatever she can get her hands on! One time she even ate 19 pain pills... long story. lol!
Do you have a rooting box for her? We use a low cat litter box and fill it with large river rocks and place treats in it. Our boy likes to nudge around in the rocks, his blankets, and just mostly everything he can get his snout on.
Also, the nudging thing (as sonic592 mentions) is the same as when a dog walks in circles before it lies down to rest (to trample grass to make a more comfortable place to sleep, and to check for any predators like snakes before lying down). It's not an indicator she needs different living environments, she's just doing something instinctual.
Really enjoyed this video, you really seem to know what you're talking about, and I find it sweet how affectionate you are towards your pig. I don't know why people are getting so riled up, pigs can live very happily in clean environments as long as they are kept cool, well fed and played with regularly, and don't need to be kept in muddy or dirty enviroments, as he clearly states that pigs only use mud to keep themselves cool (an air conditioned house works just as good).

its not hilarious to see a man using he's pet pig to get attention. It's not a dog, so don't treat it that way. it needs to have access to nature and why has it no friends around? pigs are very dependant on social means. by the way, I dont think the pig is having a ball with your feeding set-up. dry pellets are not natural to animals, try mix the water in it at least, as professionals do. the pet pig is here to come, they're beautiful, sensitive, intelligent beings, not toys for plain amusement.
What the actual fuck are you talking about? Pigs aren't any more intelligent than dogs or cats. Nobody is treating this pig like a 'toy for plain amusement' so stop overreacting! By the way, your grammar is pretty awful. I hate know-it-alls like you who hold themselves in such high regard but can't even spell dependent properly!
Excuse me for not expressing myself perfectly and fluently in a foreign language ;) I probably overreacted, but I think you need some training to know more about this animal. I dont know it all, but enough to see, that these clinical surroundings is not appropriate to a pig, thats all. As sonic592 says about the nudging is correct, they need access to mud, dirt and friends, its a pig! and they need to have the food mixed with water plus water at the side. but maybe you have that arranged already.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. The pig in the video seems healthy and happy, so who cares if its not rolling around in a pigsty? Tons of domestic animals live very different lives than their wild ancestors. This particular pig has been bred as a companion animal so it's obviously not going to have the same habitat as some wild boar or something. I'm personally satisfied with my dog and cat, but the dude in the video looks like he's doing a good job of raising his piggy.
they nudge like that because in the wild if they wanna sleep they dig a whole big enough for them to have a body shape bed, so when your pig nudges it is trying to dig and make a bed since they dig with their nose.
I've heard that fish oil is good for their skin. I might just start doing that as her's cracks and flakes all the time. What do you use and how do you apply?
I dont know much about pigs but I think shes rooting on the blanket. Wouldnt suprise me if she has a need to do it just because its instinctual. Maybe if you had a backyard with soft soil she would go out there instead.

Not sure on the rules in your area, but my understanding is it's kind of a gray area with case law going both ways as pigs are considered farm animals. However, "Tea cup pigs are sometimes allowed as they are bred for domestication."
they only stick if they are not propper taken care of like washed they need to woller in mud casue they dont sweat so they can cool off by themselfs so they put mud on them selfs then you can just wash them off and there you go no stinky
no such thing as a tea cup pig it will grow and grow and grow or die because the breeders lie!!!!!! search the internet...its a normal potbelly pig!! or one that has been malnourished to the point that it can no longer grow but its organs will continue to grow causing it to die in about 5 years :'(
Yeah, I did lots of research before I bought her and read some of the same info as you provided. That said, the information is simply outdated. It took my breeder about 10 years to get them "tea cup". A great indicator is what the parents look like and both of Melli Sue's parents are 40lbs. You raise an important point. As it is imperrative for potential tea cup owners to make sure and do there homework and ask the right questions from a potential breeder.
Where did you get her?!?! I would love to have a little piggy like that of my own<3 Is there an internet site or anything I can look at to find a baby of my own? Thank you!
Hey, great, informative video of your cutie Mellie-Sue!! But I thought teacup pigs are waaaay smaller, like micro pigs?? Is she moreso a potbelly pig? In any case, too cuuute haha and love ur comments, you´re a good narrator ; )
Pot Belly pigs will grow to be anywhere from 150-200lbs. They were at one time known as minature pigs as normal pigs are in the 800lb. range. Now compare that to a Teacup pig which will only grow to 40lbs. Remember, most of a pigs weight is in there girdth and bellies. A proper size comparison would be to a Minature Snauzer dog. I've had her about a year now, but they grow until they are about 2yrs. old.
I've had her for about a year now and I couldn't be happier! She has been such a joy and all she ever wants is to be in my lap! lol! Admittingly it's getting harder as she is now 30lbs and not the little swine she once was! lol! Ultimately the nudging is a natural response to her instinct to root, but I can't figure out why she does it after every meal. It's like she's wiping her face off after a messy meal! lol!
She's so cute! My daughter wants one now! Lol Do you think she nudges for a little while right after as a way of cleaning her snout and mouth off after eating?

I've had her about a year now, but they grow until they are about 2yrs. old.

How long have you had her?
Is the nudging a substitute for her natural instinct to root? It must be a comfort-action.
Nice video of a good hearted pet.

It's like she's wiping her face off after a messy meal! lol!
