Well if everybody learns what's right and wrong from their parents, what about the first people or those kids who grow up with no real parents? What about the kids who's parents are never home or sober enough to teach them about good and evil?

That's a false conclusion. A large portion of the American population may be Christian, but that blanket assessment hides many nuances. Not everyone who identifies as a Christian immediately identifies with the Christian right of Pat Robertson & Jerry Falwell (Catholics, who are 22% of the entire US population, as well as many left-leaning Evangelical denominations).

exactly, that's why there are so many problems in society. so many folks from broken homes or from smug, closed off, inward looking communities. many good folks can come from broken homes if they at least have someone like a grand parent (for example) who act as a surrogate to nurture them. no-one is perfect of course. we all have to deal with petty power mongers in work etc. i'm no expert but if you want more insight maybe look up bert hellinger's teachings.

If you want to make the argument with "Do onto others", then the same can be said with Pagan beliefs that were around before Christianity. Karma and "Do what you will, but harm none including yourself".

I started looking at countries like Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, etc. Those countries seem more peaceful and the people have more freedoms. They're wealthy, healthy, and advancing.
Maybe they've found a better form of government than what we have. In the same way we look at Communists and Dictatorship countries.
Best part, religion is not the center of their decisions. Just wonderful rationality. No wonder their IQ scores are higher, they are forced to think for themselves. No God fallback.

Are you referring to the passage in Mark 9:47, "If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out"? If so, is not to be taken litterally, it just means that we should do whatever we can to avoid temptation. Please do not take litterally what was not inteded to be litteral.

By what criteria do you decide what is literal or metaphor in the bible? According to Christian dogma, if I look at a woman with lust, it's the same thing as commenting adultery if I happen to be married. Thought crime, sound familiar? It would if you read 1984. Christian dogma is to be mocked and laughed at.

Well the idea behind that, is that if you think too often about things, such as lust, you will eventually want it.
Some books of the Bible were written as history, some others for laying down the law, and the rest for abstract and metaphorical purposes. Jesus usally taught using Jewish laws and stories for showing examples of his teachings.

You just do what anyone does when catologing musical genres. If a song has a certain sound or rythym, it is classified a certain way. In the same way, when Books have quoted passages taken from the Jewish Law, it is classified as a Book of the Law. There are a few different categories of books - History, Law, Major Prophets, Minor Prophets, and Doctrinal (teaching what Christians believe and why)

Sarcasm can be tricky :) So Jesus, allegedly saved the poor and needy, unless it was a lie or misinterpretation/mistranslation .. or it might be right, so there are other sides besides "it has to be true".. there's the "it could be false" which I rather tend to lean towards since there is no evidence of Jesus.. that's all..

Actually, there is evidence that Jesus existed in historical accounts (Like those from a scribe named Josephus) even though I don't know that they believed what he had to say. So even many non-Christians agree to his existance. Also, I'm not just saying "it has to be true," I'm asking: where else did everything we know/ see come from?

You know i think after reading so many comments in this thread it is exactly as judoyodan said. Religion is dying, religion is not getting the respect that they used to be able demand. Religion is being scrutinised, laughed, degraded from a status they once enjoyed. People are waking up, not only to religion but the methodology used in arguments. It simply can't exist with what we know about the world today. The fallback seems to be over and over... "it gives us a moral code" Utter nonsense!

As you just said its an evolutionary theory, so while it may be true it hasn't been proven as a 100% fact. Also is is possible for evolution and religion to co-exist. Just because you were created doesn't mean that you can't evolve.
