I use it on my sides because I have a short hairsyle (short on the sides long on the top) but never on the top i only use hair oil on the top and a flat iron once a week after i wash it
I really love the part in your video when you said reading a scripture will help you feel better, you are so right!! And you have very beautiful hair!
omg im so glad that you did this video. i have been natural "again" for a year now and i never use heat ! i do alot of roller sets and thats it! But i noticed so much breakage! I was wondering if it was the gel or the rollers. I make sure it has no alcohol but i still feel that it is damaging my hair. now i switched to the eco styler because it doesnt leave my hair rock hard. is there anyone else that has noticed breakage with roller or rod sets???
I've never been a big gel fan...I used to hate it back in the day. Ecostyler gel is not natural, there are some not so good ingredients in it. Amen we need the Word of God. Thank you for that mention.
Now I realise why after my flexing rod set with ic fantasia gel ( which looked like a silky coil out) my ends were crisp and dry for a hot minute.... Never again.
Hi Im 13 and i really look up to you and i want my hair to be as long as yours! but anyway, I hav never had a relaxer before but i went through a phase where i was flat ironing my hair like every day. I also have the Brazilian Keratin treatment on my hair but im letting it wear off. do you think i need to cut my hair though? it doesnt look damaged at all but im not sure if the excessive heat i applied to it before has ruined it but i just cant see the damage. thank you
@nyaloveslife It possibly may have caused heat damage ( really just loosened your hairs curl pattern) bu dont chop it off all at once. Let it grow out and just do braid outs to give your new growth and old hair the same looser textured look. Then cut the ends as your hair grows out, eventually you will get rid of any heat damaged hair if you have any.
I reccommend the Ampro shine n jam conditioning gel. The ingredients arent horrible and you can wash it out. Everything sounds pretty water soluble :)
Ah ha! NOW I see why I enjoy and prefer watching your videos! What you said in he end about picking up your Bible and reading a scripture was the best advice I've heard any hair guru say :) You are speaking truth young lady and I gotta say that it is refreshing :) Kp up the great work :) God bless you :)
you really should invest in a higher quality camera. no disrespect and i love your videos, but i just think youd get more "popular" that way. you DESERVE to be watched. lol
Not, going to lie, I love gel! Eco Styler! My hair feels super soft and it helps makes the edges of my hair neat, I'm not crazy about all gels, but eco is by far my favorite, especially when it comes to twisting or braiding my hair. I'm not sure if it breaks my hair though. I'll pay more attention to that next time I use a good amount of it, but like I said, gel has literary become my best friend.
Gels can do a lot of damage. I stopped using protein gel all over my hair since 2010. It contributed to thinning edges. At that time I was not mositurizing my hair everyday. Currently, I use aloe vera gel all over my hair because I have fine/frizzy hair and this seems to be the only type of product that can hold my hair. This spring I started using shea butter and then an alcohol free protein gel on my hair line, because nothing else works, so every night I saturate my hair line with water.
@saRob0304 I'm not a fan of the ecostyler but I would recommend the other two b/c they are all natural. I must add, just b/c a product is all natural it does not mean that it is necessarily good for your hair. I have used some natural shampoos and conditioners that have dried my hair out and made it feel stiff. So my suggestion to everyone is to try different products and see which ones your hair reacts the best too.
I do use gel on my edges, only. Eco styler gel. I notice it doesn't have alcohol in it but have wondered if there were any other ingredients in it that could be harmful? I also use Taliah Waajid Lock and twist gel, but it can be kind of pricey?
I ONLY use flax seed gel on my twa daily and it doesn't have all of those scary toxic ingredients in it. It's natural water based product that you can whip up in the kitchen and get the same or better results than store bought gel. Rinse it out nightly and you're good to go. I add avocado oil, jasmine oil, ylang ylang, a splash of Oyin Juices and Berries, and Rosemary oil to mine.... Lots of moisture and it smells soo good! Nice video :)
I Never Used Gel Like I See Some Of These Girls...lol I Never Liked Hard Stiff Hair... I Always Went For The Flowing, Body Full Hair...lol I Hate The "Plastered Head" Look...LOL
I use gel in my hair, but before i put it on i have a base of conditioner, and moisturizers underneath. I haven't had any problems with breakage or damage doing it this way. The only time I've seen breakage w/ gel was when i had a relaxer and would pull on my hair, putting it in styles w/ the gel. gel on top of my moisturized hair with out pulling doesn't hurt it.
I have read a lot of good things on panthenol, it is plant derived. Polysorbate 20 is supposed to be natural and plant derived as well! I think those two are okay!
@kshel104 The list was a mixture of ingredients that can be harmful to your hair and health. Those two were focused on health. Experiments conducted on animals showed negative health effects from Panthenol and Polysorbate. I have used ingredients containing both in the past. I'm just putting all the info. out there so women can make informed decisions on what the choose to use :)
u just radiate such positivity and happiness. i wonder what your like mad? probably really evil, lol! they say really nice people are great, but when they're mad they are the complete opposite.
You would be the perfect model for a black barbie doll. It would be so nice if matel would make a barbie that looked like you WITH all of that long, natural, hair you have.
I love my DIY Flaxseed Gel and the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. They're both organic/vegan - do not contain any of the chemicals listed above. I use either or or in conjunction with the Kinky Curly Knot Today. I've used it consistently for over a year and my hair is healthy. Nice video! I use to use regular, over the counter gels before, I didn't really understand that the ingredients were harmful - now I do.
I just reviewed the ingredients on the gels I have: IC Fantasia Hard to Hold (Pink), Eco Styler Olive Oil, & La Bella Lots of Curls(my fav) & La Bella Max hold. La Bella & Eco have 2 or more harsh ingredients. The IC Fantasia only has one, Polysorbate-20 - which ALL of them contain. Oh well, I guess IC will be the winner until I find something more pure. Maybe I'll try to whip up a batch of flax seed gel & see if my hair responds well. Dayum man, good gel is a big styling aid for me. :(
@1FlySista Try aloe vera gel. Natural gels are the best. If you go to iherb.com or vitacost.com or a Whole Foods, you can find many options for natural gels.
@1FlySista You can also find 100% aloe vera gel in drug stores like Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS & also Wal-Mart. They won't be in the hair product aisles though (I searched for months trying to find it in the hair product aisles...lol). Instead, they'll be where the items for sunburn/skin care are found. In Wal-Mart it's near the cocoa butter & sometimes near the baby lotions. Make sure the gel is clear & says 100% aloe vera. I've seen some imitation aloe vera gels that were dyed green. Good luck!
@1FlySista I understand. When I watched this video, I took back my ecostyler. I decided to do a flax seed gel. I wanted it thick so I used 1/4 cup flax seeds to 1 cup of water. It worked really well on my wash & go. Maybe this might be an option you can try. Blessings!
I love gel. I've been natural for 2 months and Isoplus Protein gel has been a staple in my routine. I haven't experienced breakage, because I use hot six oil after my deep conditioner and a leave in, before I apply my gel. I think once those protective barriers are there, breakage can be avoided.
Just remember there are natural gels that do not have any of the above ingredients listed and are even organic. Not all gels are bad. Just like not all shampoos, conditioners, etc are good for you! : ) Everyone should read the ingredients of any item they are using in their hair, body, skin, whatever. Those same carcinogenic ingredients that are put in hair gels are put in lotions, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc...
You are so right! Once I switched from gels and other synthetic products, my hair has really started retaining length. Now I only use all or mostly organic products and my hair has become stronger and thicker overnight almost. It makes a big difference!
Wow I had no clue that gel can break your hair off, I must say I use gel on a daily ...but I've measured it down I only use it on my edges and just let the rest of my hair in conditioner, shea butter or some type of oil I just stop putting gel on my ends and two weeks ago, now I've finally decided to break down and wear twist as a protective style and the first time I wore them I used the Eco stlyer Argan moroccan oil gel because it made them look so pretty...what is a good product 2use 4twist?
You know what I do. i always mix a little more shea butter in my hand with the gel. This makes for a very soft hold. Finding a very soft shea butter is essential to this though. Or you can mix in a little olive oil are something like that in the shea to make it more pliable. The gel can be veeeery damaging when not used correctly. I experienced damage from gel before I started this method. But now shea/gel mix is my HG leave-in. I even use shea/gel for smoothing, it looks more natural.
Great Video ! I had said a cpl. of days ago that I was done with hair gels. I just bought and made some flaxseed gel so i'm going to try that. If the flaxseed gel still dries my hair out like regular gel then i'm gonna stop using it too.
saturday I threw out my eco-styler gel... so I didnt get a chance to cross-reference the ingredients with those listed on this video but the product build up was CRAZY even on freshly washed hair... need to find an affordable replacement which I can buy retail in the UK
Yes u r so right. I have seen a big difference since I've stopped using gel routinely. I only use gel now to slick my edges every once in a while, And if this helps anyone...
I dont slap alot on, a little goes a long way, If I must use gel I prefer Pure Aloe vera gel, but i will use ecostyler if needed. I also put on shea butter and or oil to my hair 1st, then gel... This gives me hold without the hard crunchy feeling. Then I tie it down.
I use a all natural gel called flaxseed gel.i have been using it for about 1 1/2 months and I love it.you boil flax seeds for about 10 min.and it makes a great natural gel...check out naptural85 video on it great stuff...
I totally agree that gel is drying to the hair. I used to use it a lot and many different brands, now the ONLY gel I'll use is Eco Styler Olive Oil and ALWAYS put a leave in or something under it and it makes a world of difference. I still use it sparingly though.
I have never used hair gel because something that can make your hair that hard or whatnot is just not natural to me...however, I am exploring the idea of using flaxseed to make a natural hair gel as I have seen on other yt videos.
I'm not a gel person at all. I don't leave a gel in more than one day. Even with Eco Styler, it has protein in it and breaks my hair. I only use it on the front for buns, never on the ends, now I use the KCCC but still only on the front and I wash it out after 2 days
@tastiredbone I never use gel on my ends. I actually use it every time I style my hair without twist/braids, since I've been natural (I've been natural for a little more than 2 years and I have taken a break for a few days to do twist or just not wear it). But I co-wash my hair every few days (two or three days). It hasn't been hazardous to my hair, but then again, I always put my moisturizer and oil before and after I gel. :) I hate twists and twist outs, because my hair isn't thick. :/
Wow. . .I just grabbed my jar of eco styler (olive oil formula) and found that it contains the Polysorbate 20 and the Tetrasodium EDTA...eek!! Great vid!!
@MsChanteJ72 Polysorbate 20 isn't necessarily bad for your hair. It is more of a health concern because it shows negative effects when it is tested on animals which leads some to believe there will be negative effects on humans. You may want to try natural gels if knowing that bothers you.
I love your hair, you're one of the people that inspired me to go natural. I'm only at bra strap length right now, but I hope to have hair as long as yours so I can wear cute twist outs and still have them look long lol
@TheFreshprincess23 "Only" brastrap? Lol. That's pretty long. Just a couple of inches from midback. Your twist-outs should look long enough esp if you do them on dry hair
wow love the vid as always but i especially loved the ending. Thanx for the inspiration and plz keep it up =)!!
