does anyone here knows if some cocker spanial are born with no tail? my sister's cocker spanial fits the description, and i notice it's sometime harder for him to walk or run in general, like as he walks generally his back legs somehow moves faster than his front that it would swing to one side almost as if he was trying to turn.

Sometimes a reputable breeder is better than an animal shelter because most of the dogs in shelters are not gonna be very stable. Shelter dogs may have been abused in the past, so they might be afraid of humans and resort to fear-biting. They might have also been used for the evil dogfighting and will be prone to extreme dog-aggression. These kinds of dogs should only be adopted by really experienced people.
Dogs101 supports breeders because animal shelters arn't always positive if the breed is full cocker spaniel, or part something else, smetimesit's hard to tell. They never said anything is wrong from getting them from shelters, just if you want a pure bread, your best resource is a breeder. If you don't care and would love it no matter what it is, get it from a shelter! Stop hating!
My dad saved a cocker spaniel when I was only about 4, i think? My dad's co-worker couldn't keep the dog because he couldn't give him the attention he needed because of work and the dog had ear infections in both ears, so he was going to put him down if no one was able to take him. I fell in love with that dog. But the dog passed away when I was about 13 :/ But, it's a great dog to have.
All cocker spaniels I have met must have had crappy owners because all encounters I've had with them were bad. Unfortunate since they seem like such a great breed.
I have a cocker spaniel, she's a cyborg. She never get sick. My beagle is the contrary. Always sick and lazy. Cinnamon, our cocker spaniel is now the alpha amongst our three dogs (boxer and beagle). She's always pleasing and very obedient. She's also our guard dog because the boxer happened to be uber friendly to just about anyone. LOL :)

I got my American Cocker Spaniel 3 weeks ago. Her name is Bella, and she is so beautiful. She never leaves my side for long, and is so sweet. She does have a biting problem though. Our neighbor (who is also a vet) said it was only because she is a puppy and is teething, and she'll groow out of it. I love my cocker spaniel! <3

Also - Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. I have never known stupider dogs than Cocker Spaniels. Not to say they aren't sweet and fun, but they have nothing going on upstairs. They will walk out into the street, see a car coming and run straight into it. They are friendly to a level of functional retardation and will happily go say "hi" to rattlesnakes, moving bulldozers, and even bonfires. You have to look out for them constantly, because they are too darn stupid to look out for themselves.
I'm getting a puppy Cocker Spaniel tomorrow, I am in love with the breed. My other dog who was an Australian Shepard got stolen two months ago, I cry about him every night, and I've heard from friends and online that Cocker Spaniels are the perfect dog to help me get over my last one. I have a one called Nugga. He is so cute and so nice but can also be a pain in the ass, but that just because he is a puppy. I am so happy that i finaly got a little brother, cus he is just so cute. I am so afraid that i might lose him when he is 6 or 8 years old. But i just hope he will be 15 years old and find a friend that he will get kids with. I love him, but im afraid to lose him :(

@ellementira youre right there are lots of wonderful dogs from shelters, i actually got my cocker spaniel from a shelter, he's a year old a he is a wonderful dog, a good companion and gun dog.
@ellementira Because they're talking pure breeds with the health problems and general behavior. It's easier to get a pure breed from a breeder than a shelter. Shelters are great places to get dogs, but for purebreed animals, not so much.
@ellementira I think they really stress this because after that infamous "Lady & The Tramp" Disney movie, there was a HUGE boom in backyard breeding. Our family has had 4 (3 rescues 1 purchased), 2 were excellent and just as described in the video, the other 2 were absolute nightmares. But if people would stop breeding irresponsibly the bad health problems and behavioral tendencies then this is definitely a breed that wouldn't be found in shelters to be begin with.
@ellementira I have gotten dogs from both shelters and breeders. Loved them all to bits, but it's not a crime to want to purchase your dog from a reputable breeder. My cocker that I rescued from an un-known background had major eye problems that led to the eventual removal of both eyes. Had he been purchased from a good breeder we may have avoided that heartache.I am on a waiting list for a cocker puppy that will not be born for another 6 months with excellent breeding. Dont hate on breeders
@hardkore76 Not to mention with out breeders we wouldn't have dogs to begin with. We'd still be dealing with wolves. I personally prefer the idea of adoption simply because I was a foster kid, and pretty much a stray. Also I don't want to deal with the puppy stage thing. I want a dog already house broken, and grown so I know it will be the perfect dog for me. But I tell you what, there is nothing better than catching your first wiff of puppy breath!!

BUT just saying there are alot of great responsible breeders out there that work hard to better the breeds . And should someone choose to go the route of a breeder when aquiring a dog for whatever their own personal reasons, they shouldn't be made to feel guilty or ashamed of their choice for doing so.

@hardkore76 Why people are hating on breeders is because there are SO many dogs out there. Very good animals are dying just because no one wants them. People want fancy dogs that are purebred, when a purebred dog could have tons more health problems than the mutt in a shelter. These dogs deserve a chance at life too, but irresponsible people over populating (whether on they mean to or not) they are put down. I have worked in a shelter and it breaks my heart to euthanize for space.
@ellementira Some breeders are responsable and take very good care of their dogs while some of them neglect them and treat them poorly, the best way to know if it's a responsable breeder is too ask to visit where the parents are, they shoould let you visit their farm. and i agree that people should adopt and not buy cuz there are many other dogs in the world that don't have homes and will probably never get one.

Hi I just got my puppy today... She's obviously too young to have quit her mother and siblings, but the owner REALLY wanted to get rid of them... She's only a month old!
And the mother was only 1 year old.

I really don't see why you would cut the tail of such a dog. If it's just one to keep you comppany, it's not going to hurt its tail. They even mention how much they swag their tail...
The main dog in this is an American cocker they have rounder heads and shorter noses. I love the English cocker I have a black one and she's very manipulative with the way she looks at you and wags that tail! Lol.

The main dog in this is an American cocker they have rounder heads and shorter noses. I love the English cocker I have a black one and she's very manipulative with the way she looks at you and wags that tail! Lol.

These dogs are such con artists! I'm sitting here watching this, eating my yogurt, and here comes my cocker looking at me with those big,pathetic, watery eyes, looking like she'll love me forever if she could just have my yogurt cup. As soon as I give it to her, she takes off XD. I love her though, she's such a funny little thing.

I had a cocker spaniel from the ages of 1 to 11. She was a great companion who got ran over by a car :( I still miss her, but one day I want to own one.
