I think you all are looking way too deeply into this. Rarity could have flirted with Spike all she wanted, but it was Spike's selfless act to actually give Rarity the fire ruby without any insistance of getting it back or getting something in return. Rarity was envious, but she didn't force Spike in any way to give it to her. And has anypony else thought that maybe, just maybe, what we see as Rarity using her wiles is actually Spike's drool-o-vision?

I'm pretty sure the intent of the scene was just that Rarity was so entranced by the gem and not that she was trying to charm Spike out it. After all, Spike didn't give it to her out of heart-eyed glee and Rarity really did appreciate Spike's act of kindness.

@metaXzero DIS. The animators pay a lot of attention to detail in terms of the characters expressions. When Spike gives Rarity the ruby, Rarity didn't look like she expected to actually get the ruby. It was entirely different approach and expression than what she had when she convinced the male ponies to take them all to the Gala.

The expressions leading up to that led me to believe that she was just really excited to see a fire ruby since it's so rare...and because she likes gems.
