I think you're right that the oligarchy is definitely a force in all this, especially the arms manufacturers and contractors who make money off wars. But to say they're the only force at work is probably too simplistic. I think he's trying to say that the "mindset" of the system is more than the sum of the mindset of its parts. The dominate mindset is not the mindset of any one group within the system, but something that emerges as a function of the interaction of all those groups' competing.

Ron Paul, Peter Schiff and the like, sure seem to know a hell of a lot more about currency/economics than those that are currently running the show. They both agree on the gold standard(if that's the right expression), so I'd tend to believe them moreso than the super rich/elitists currently making monetary policy.

I've always found Ron Paul to seem the most trustworthy/logical(on economy, drug war, foreign policy, etc), but I'm Canadian and have only seen videos, interviews, GOP candidates debate, etc.

@zoticus, like I said, I'm no economist. It just seems Ron Paul is pretty much the only one that seems to want to make drastic changes to economic/monetary policies, foreign policy, drug war, state rights, etc. I can't vote for the guy, so it's not like I'm invested in him at all. I just haven't heard/seen anyone else be as logical and consistent as him. I like our socialized health care in Canada(flaws and all), which is completely against Paul's beliefs, so I don't agree with him on everything

Petrodollar is all over the news especially pre 9/11 and there are many articles online about it.Its primarily in publications like the economist and such.
This summer I read an article about the Saudis spending BILLIONS to drill in the middle of nowhere.They are expected to reach peak production soon.
